As the moonlight shares its brilliance upon the waters, the
night grows old, and the rising of the sun is near. Easter
Sunday is upon us - adequate deliverance from sympathetic
woes of the past. I listen to “His Voice” in the silence of the
moment.
Rays of perfection shine upon mankind, a song or two upon
our lips. Life enjoyed by the wise amongst us. Surviving a
war of insanity, today we balance out the interruptions of life
by the Will of God. “Listen -- Listen...”
Will we see farther down the path we choose, than He? Shall
wisdom appear without Him? Today, hope shines upon us!
Out of love shall He give us the greatness we seek. “Whisper -- Whisper my name...”
Solemn moments, silken thoughts, virtue has not eluded us.
What we allow, shall we grasp. Revere the time He shares.
This very day, the monotony of sadness shall be broken.
“But for the moment, have you heard me?”
“Happy Easter”

Long liquid legends steal the dawn,
The sun-sworn brown and down upon lost sunlight.
Theft-bereft as death defies old logic;
Sonnet-swimming days alone,
Upon the brittle bones of fate’s decay;
Now path-worn rivulets roar like rivers lost,
The day-torn clouds of every old illusion,
Steal thunder from old lightning,
To lead a bleed of weathered foresight reckoned;
Lamp-pool auras flicker in old doubt,
The shout and freezing drizzle,
Damp and damming style-painted portraits
Spinning color infinite and blind...

Uncovered flesh recedes like fleeing tides
That sink the sacred sights where all flesh hides;
Exposing self within this boiling brine
Aloft like seagulls with their soaring crime.
We settle when our chairs are cold neglect,
And read the books that others would select,
And use our knowledge like a hammered nail,
Until the anchor’s lifted and we sail;
To chart the unknown depths of all we fear,
And find, before we sink, someone to steer..

Winslow 4-H Club News
On February 16, seven members of the Winslow 4-H Club
went to the Pauline Whitaker Equine Center in Fayetteville to
compete in a Dairy Contest, sponsored by Farm Bureau. We also
competed in indoor activities like entomology, forestry, seeds
and weeds, ornamental horticulture, and wildlife identification.
During the afternoon session, there were outdoor activities like
bicycle safety, bait casting, gun safety and BB gun shooting,
game fish ID, and reel into sport fishing.
Just a Thought
By Jerry Bromley
Old age is changing and we are likely to live alone, drive a
car or truck until our 80’s, and volunteer at the local library.
Thirty three million Americans are now 65 or older. We can
already see the shift in television commercials from sports
equipment to medication and funeral plans. A blessing of
these years is that we can create new ideas and activities and
friends.
The club brought home a combined 37 ribbons for the activities.
Gauge Jorgenson won both the forestry and ornamental
horticulture contests, which qualify him for the district
competition in June. He also won the dairy competition in the
main dish category for Three Cheese Italian Herb Stromboli.
Now back to the library where we can volunteer and take
a friend along to volunteer at the used book store to talk,
shelve and sell books. Volunteer even once a month and
help support your library. If you wish to host a reception for
the community and provide punch and cookies that would be
great or Friends of the Library would provide the punch and
cookies. Meet new people, broaden your horizon, find a new
author to read, even if you don’t read there are movies and
books on cassette or CD for sale at great prices.
We are proud of all the members who competed. They made
Winslow Proud!
If you are between the ages of 5 and 18, and love to learn new
things, 4-H is the club for you. We meet at the fire station the
first Monday of every month at 4:15 PM. This month, we will
make functional birdhouses that members can enter in the fair in
August.

WHERE IS ARKANSAS?
Have you seen"Alligator Rock" down off Carter Road?
How about "Robinson’s Cave" down in Pense Holler,
or "the deer lick" in the same holler? I remember Schaberg with buildings and houses in ruins.
By Mack Innis <[email protected]>
It used to be my grandma’s house, south of Winslow up
on the highway on McClendon Hill. (A hundred yards
south of Coil Cemetery road on the west side of the
road.) She was Emma Innis. Uncle John lived there too.
I first went there in 1946 and at 6 months old I have no
recollection of that visit. All the rest of the visits, as a
kid, I remember well. We could be at Aunt Beth’s (Beth
Innis Rogers) in Fayetteville and I would urge my Dad
for us to go on down to "Arkansas." That was Grandmas house. An outhouse, chickens loose in the yard and
a wall phone with a crank on the side are part of my
memories. Grandpa, John Lee Innis, had died the year
before I was born so I never knew him. My Dad, Hal
Innis, was born up there on the mountain in 1912 and
we visited often when I was a youngster. Not nearly
often enough for me! But that house was "Arkansas".
My Great Grandpa Preston McClendon homesteaded
many acres in the Winslow and Schaberg areas in the
1800’s. Climbing south from Winslow on the highway
that's McClendon Hill when you level off at the top.
His place was on the east side where the later Westerner
Motel was.
So, for almost 67 years I've been an "almost" Winslow
Squirrel and hope to settle there in 2013. I'll end up,
with relatives in Coil Cemetery someday, hopefully
not for quite a while! That's right, C-O-I-L cemetery-spelled right-unlike the road signs!
The first Innis in Winslow was my Grandfather John
L. Innis who came as an infant from Iowa in 1876. The
last one still there was his son, my uncle, John Innis
who died in 1980 and they are both in Coil Cemetery. I
aim to be the next Innis there.
Arkansas is still there after being built in 1927. It now
has running water, electricity and indoor plumbing. I
haven't been in it since 1969. My new wife and I lived
there through the summer of 1969. I worked for the
A.E.C. out at SEFOR and then at U. of A. on its police Hope to see you soon and hope that these old memories
force. Economic reasons forced us to move on to make bring back some smiles to the older locals.
a good living.
Preston Mack Innis
In subsequent years I've learned that Arkansas is ALL Pensacola, Fl.
over the area!
Not just Grandma’s old house. I visited Devil’s Den,
The Falls, Lake Shepard Springs, White Rock, and, of
course Burns-Gables many times over the 50's and 60's.
Those are all Arkansas too!
Stayed at Vista Courts many times in the 70’s and 80’s.
We used to ride the little train around the lake at Mt.
Gaylor way back and always climbed the tower over
at the Bellis place for a dime. It still which still stands
today.
I remember the old train station in downtown Winslow with its "whites" and "colored" designated areas.
One time in the 50's we called Grandma from Kansas
late on a Sunday morning and when my Dad asked for
The Innis place the Winslow operator said, "Oh Emma
wouldn't be back from church yet."
She was a founder of The Winslow Methodist Church
in 1902 by the way.

Welcome To Our 2013 Season At Ozark Folkways!
We have all kind of surprises in store for you this year, but let's start with this one
The Pastor's Son
Every Sunday afternoon, after the morning service at the church, the Pastor
and his eleven year old son would go out into their town and hand out Gospel
Tracts.
This particular Sunday afternoon, as it came time for the Pastor and his son to
go to the streets with their tracts, it was very cold outside, as well as pouring
rain.
The boy bundled up in his warmest and driest clothes and said, 'OK, dad, I'm
ready.'
His Pastor dad asked, 'Ready for what?'
As she began to speak, a look of glorious radiance came from her face, 'No
one in this church knows me. I've never been here before. You see, before last
Sunday I was not a Christian. My husband passed on some time ago, leaving
me totally alone in this world. Last Sunday, being a particularly cold and rainy
day, it was even more so in my heart that I came to the end of the line where I
no longer had any hope or will to live.
So I took a rope and a chair and ascended the stairway into the attic of my
home. I fastened the rope securely to a rafter in the roof, then stood on the
chair and fastened the other end of the rope around my neck. Standing on that
chair, so lonely and broken-hearted I was about to leap off, when suddenly
the loud ringing of my doorbell downstairs startled me. I thought, 'I'll wait a
minute, and whoever it is will go away.'
I waited and waited, but the ringing doorbell seemed to get louder and more
insistent, and then the person ringing also started knocking loudly...
'Dad, it's time we gather our tracts together and go out.'
Dad responds, 'Son, it's very cold outside and it's pouring rain.'
The boy gives his dad a surprised look, asking, 'But Dad, aren't people still
going to Hell, even though it's raining?'
Dad answers, 'Son, I am not going out in this weather.'
Despondently, the boy asks, 'Dad, can I go? Please?'
His father hesitated for a moment then said, 'Son, you can go. Here are the
tracts, be careful son..'
'Thanks Dad!'
And with that, he was off and out into the rain.. This eleven year old boy
walked the streets of the town going door to door and handing everybody he
met in the street a Gospel Tract .
After two hours of walking in the rain, he was soaking, bone-chilled wet and
down to his VERY LAST TRACT. He stopped on a corner and looked for
someone to hand a tract to, but the streets were totally deserted.
I thought to myself again, 'Who on earth could this be? Nobody ever rings my
bell or comes to see me.' I loosened the rope from my neck and started for the
front door, all the while the bell rang louder and louder.
When I opened the door and looked I could hardly believe my eyes, for there
on my front porch was the most radiant and angelic little boy I had ever seen
in my life. His SMILE, oh, I could never describe it to you!
The words that came from his mouth caused my heart that had long been dead,
TO LEAP TO LIFE as he exclaimed with a cherub-like voice, 'Ma'am, I just
came to tell you that JESUS REALLY DOES LOVE YOU .' Then he gave me
this Gospel Tract that I now hold in my hand..
As the little angel disappeared back out into the cold and rain, I closed my door
and read slowly every word of this Gospel Tract. Then I went up to my attic to
get my rope and chair. I wouldn't be needing them anymore.
You see-- -I am now a Happy Child of the KING. Since the address of your
church was on the back of this Gospel Tract, I have come here to personally
say THANK YOU to God's little angel who came just in the nick of time and
by so doing, spared my soul from an eternity in hell..'
Then he turned toward the first home he saw and started up the sidewalk to
the front door and rang the doorbell. He rang the bell, but nobody answered.
There was not a dry eye in the church. And as shouts of praise and honor to
THE KING resounded off the very rafters of the building, Pastor Dad descended from the pulpit to the front pew where the little angel was seated....
He rang it again and again, but still no one answered. He waited but still no
answer.
He took his son in his arms and sobbed uncontrollably.
Finally, this eleven year old trooper turned to leave, but something stopped
him.
Probably no church has had a more glorious moment, and probably this universe has never seen a Papa that was more filled with love & honor for his
son.... Except for One.
Again, he turned to the door and rang the bell and knocked loudly on the door
with his fist. He waited, something holding him there on the front porch!
Blessed are your eyes for reading this message.
He rang again and this time the door slowly opened.
Standing in the doorway was a very sad-looking elderly lady. She softly asked,
'What can I do for you, son?' With radiant eyes and a smile that lit up her
world, this little boy said, 'Ma'am, I'm sorry if I disturbed you, but I just want
to tell you that * JESUS REALLY DOES LOVE YOU * and I came to give
you my very last Gospel Tract which will tell you all about JESUS and His
great LOVE.'
With that, he handed her his last tract and turned to leave.
She called to him as he departed. 'Thank you, son! And God Bless You!'
Well, the following Sunday morning in church Pastor Dad was in the pulpit.
As the service began, he asked, 'Does anybody have testimony or want to say
anything?'
Slowly, in the back row of the church, an elderly lady stood to her feet.
15
Don't let this message die, read it again and pass it to others. Heaven is for
His people!
Remember, God's message CAN make the difference in the life of someone
close to you.
Please share this wonderful message... If you love JESUS, Spread His word,
and share His goodness and faithfulness.
Matthew 10:32 says:
'Whoever acknowledges Me before men, I will acknowledge him before My Father in heaven. But
whoever disowns Me before men, I will disown him
