MN NAVHDA CHAPTER NEWS October 2011 YOUR MN-NAVDHA BOARD OF DIRECTORS: President: Len Kindem 715-426-6532 [email protected] Vice President: Vince Steffens 763-494-9105 [email protected] Treasurer: Chad Simmer 651-245-1978 [email protected] Secretary: Bryce Adams 763-754-3403 [email protected] Director of Judging: Ryan Krause 612-670-3728 [email protected] Director of Testing: Ross Mortensen 763-689-8879 [email protected] Director of Training: Bob Brearey 651-491-4583 [email protected] Director of Promotions/Newsletter Editor: Mindy Brown www.mnnavhda.com Election Results for the Board of Director Positions Len Kindem Our elections balloting closed on September 30. I am pleased to say we had tremendous participation by our chapter members in our elections this year with 74 ballots cast and only 1 with a late postmark. I simply do not recall that high of a turn out for many years. As always, let me start with a thank you to our departing board members Ross Mortensen, Director of Testing, and Mindy Brown, Director of Promotions. Ross has done a tremendous job the past 2 years leading our testing activities. Ross took on every challenge, as required, to ensure our tests were carried out in a flawless manner. Mindy came on to the board with a ball of energy and gave us our new chapter logo which will carry on for years to come. She also organized Fable Feast and stepped up to help us with the Newsletter when needed. The next time you see them, please make sure you take the time to express your thanks for the work and time they gave to our chapter. We are better for it. Now the results. Bryce Adams and Bob Brearey were re-elected this year. Our newest Board Members are Val Anderson and Deb Letcher. For me, this is the exciting part of being on the Board of Directors. As much as I hate to see good BOD members step aside, it is always exciting to see the new members come on with fresh ideas, different talents, and the excitement of a newbie. My congratulations to Val and Deb on their new opportunities. I would be remiss if I did not also express my thanks to Brian Thomas for running in this election. Although he was not elected this time, keep your eyes on him and get to know him. He has already contributed a lot to our chapter and I am sure you will see much more of him in the years to come. 612-940-7411 [email protected] Webmaster – Faith Shariff [email protected] Our October Board meeting will be busy as we seat our new Board of Directors and immediately go to work on our calendar for next year. Next month I will share with you how we have reorganized the Board of Directors at this October meeting. Safe hunting to all, enjoy the season, and if possible, take a young one hunting with you. As I am learning, it is one of the greatest experiences of all in NAVHDA. 2011 INVITATIONAL BLOOMINGDALE OHIO The sixteenth NAVHDA Invitational is now in the books and will be remembered by all as another successful event. The Invitational test has changed little during the modern years, with the exception of the Double Marked Retrieve. However, it is quite evident how focused our organization has been in recent years to assure that this test is conducted in a manner that is repeatable and consistent for all participants. This year, the test started with some mild rain on the opening day but then turned to ideal conditions the remainder of the test. There were some interesting happenings this year, as always. I was please to see a young man, 15 year old Jacob Sarosiek, running his dog in his first Invitational as well as see the first Braque Du Bourbonnais earn a VC. The success rate this year was again good with 61 (53%) dog & handler teams earning the coveted Versatile Champion title. Our chapter was represented by two handlers myself and Art Gloor. My congratulations to Art, earning a VC, as well as the other NAVHDA members who worked so hard to reach this level. Also, we had three of our chapter members work the entire week as Judges, Frank Spaeth, Joe Raia, and Joe Dolejsi. If you have never witnessed an Invitational first hand, it is not hard to understand how much work it is for these judges. Please give them your thanks the next time you see them. Len Kindem BIRD CRATE ROUNDUP Anyone possessing NAVHDA bird crates, either wooden or orange plastic, is asked to contact Joe Dolejsi ([email protected] or 952-934-2430) ASAP. Three orange plastic and two wooden crates are still unaccounted for. We need to coral these crates so they can be cleaned and ready for the upcoming spring training season. .
