“Live the Love”
Dear Friends,
drive off. We are a family of faith, a community in relationship. We need
the connectedness and affiliation, involvement and dedication of all the
members to be successful.
Jesus could have been a fundraiser. You may think
all of these fundraising campaigns have gone to my
head. I say Jesus could have been a fundraiser because
fundraising 101 proposes that the key to success is
relationship. Without doubt, Jesus valued relationships
– and successfully fostered them and invited others to
participate in the life those relationships offer. Today’s
feast honors the bond and connectedness among the Father, Son and the
Holy Spirit and encourages us to share that bond.
The community of the Father and Son and Holy Spirit, in an
interrelated way, promotes action and involvement. The Father creates.
The Son redeems and the Spirit sanctifies. Those verbs are not passive ones.
Everything the Triune God does is done out of pure love. Pure love acting in
relationship makes great things happen. Pure love created the world. Pure
love came down from heaven to be one with us and to suffer and die for us.
Pure love moves in the Church, to guide and protect us. Pure love invites
us to participate in the love of the Triune God and to bring that love into
the world. Relating, though, with the Triune God, I mean really relating,
requires selflessness and conversion, and absolutely demands action. Are
you ready to act?
We connect with our Triune God when we pray. There is no better
way to silence a Catholic crowd than to grab a microphone and bellow six
words, “In the name of the Father…” Conversation stops; drinks rest; forks
return to tables. We know what words follow those six, “… And of Son and
of the Holy Spirit.” It reminds us of their relationship, and ours with them.
It makes sense to stop and reflect on the power of the relationship and the
power we have when we immerse ourselves in that relationship.
So we allow the love of the Father, Son and Spirit to motivate us and
to call us into action. In order for the Saint John Berchmans community to
grow and succeed, we must, I repeat, we must focus on how we are relating
to one another and to God. When we allow God to impel us into action,
we will be unable to avoid relationships with one another. Because the Holy
Spirit has poured the love of God into our hearts, we must share that love
with those around us. That’s the challenge of the Christian life.
On this Trinity Sunday, this day when we think about the relational
quality of our triune God, I praise and thank the Trinity for making us part
of the relationship.This solemnity, marked on the Sunday after Pentecost, is
a synthesis of the paschal mystery. The Father, Son, and Spirit, participate
fully in the redemptive act of the passion, death, resurrection and ascension.
Their communal work, done in love for all creation, paved the way for our
own hope in eternal life.
Being in relationship with the Holy Trinity, allowing ourselves to be
wrapped in the love of the Father, Son and Spirit, we will live with hope,
even during uncertain times. In the Rebuild My Church process, we have
to trust in our Triune God. We have to put our hope in God. Because, as
Saint Paul reminds us, “Hope does not disappoint, because the love of God
has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit that has been
given to us.”
Today’s solemnity celebrates not an event, but a reality, and reminds
us that all we are and all we do as Christians must be done in the name of
(and with the inspiration of, and guidance of, and relying on the power
of…) the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. The solemnity of
today also teaches that we are invited to be in relationship with God, and
one another. At Saint John Berchmans we try to do just that!
Think about your relationships, especially your relationship with
Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Build that alliance. Live the love!
At Mass today, we surveyed you. We want to know what you want
from this great parish, and in what you would participate. We need and
want you to be involved, to act, and to relate one with the other. We
cannot have a passive community. We need an active one. We need a
relational community that moves and acts and gives and shares. This is not
a service station, where people just come and take what they need and

Jesus tells his disciples to proclaim
God’s mercy to the nations. In a more
personal direction, he tells those who
have experienced the mercy of God
in their lives to witness that grace to
others. We are never to hold on to
our experiences of mercy as if they
belonged only to us. We witness what
God has done. “Return to your home, and
declare how much God has done for you.” (Luke 8:39)
SPIRITUAL NEEDS SURVEY
During Mass today parishioners were asked to take part in an online
survey regarding faith formation and education programs. If you were
unable to participate but would still like to be heard, you can check the
parish website for a link to the Spiritual Needs and Practices survey or fill
out a paper survey. Copies are available in the church vestibule. All surveys
must be returned to the rectory office by Sunday, May 29.
MINISTRY OF HOPE
During this Jubilee Year of Mercy, we have been hearing much about the
corporal works of mercy, and how they give us a model of how we should
treat others. The St. John Berchmans’ Ministry of HOPE (“Helping Other
People Enthusiastically”) is one way we can put this into practice in our
own community.This ministry reaches out to families in need of assistance.
Volunteers provide meals for the sick, homebound, or families going
through hard times. Meals are also brought to families with newborns,
to help the new parents cope with the demands of having a new baby in
the home. If you’d like to help with this valuable ministry, contact Peggy

MASS INTENTIONS
All St. John Berchmans parishioners and friends are invited to request
Mass intentions for those who have died, for loved ones on their birthdays
or anniversaries, or for any other occasion or concern. As the Holy
Sacrifice of the Mass is the most powerful prayer of the Church,
this is a very effective way to honor the living or pray for the dead.
Summer on the Square
June 18th ~ Mass at 4pm
The suggested donation for these Masses is $10 per Mass. We will be
limiting the number of intentions to two per Mass, so in order to ensure
availability of your requested day and time, please submit this request to
the rectory office as soon as possible. Intentions will be added to the
calendar on a first-come basis. Mass intentions are now be accepted for
all Masses through December 2017.
Summer on the Square will be held on Saturday, June
18. We will begin with an outdoor Mass at 4 p.m. The
fun will continue throughout the evening with foods
from around the world, music, games and activities.
This year’s raffle ticket grand prize is $5,000. Raffle
tickets are $50 each or three for $125. Parishioner’s
raffle tickets were available for pickup in the back of
church on Sunday (May 15). Those that were not picked
up were mailed. If you need extra tickets, or would like
to volunteer to help at the event, please call the rectory.
Playgroup is taking a summer vacation
The last day of SJB Playgroup will be on Thursday, May 26. We will
resume Playgroup again in September. Thanks so much for playing
with us this year, and we look forward to seeing you in the fall. Do

“Vivan el Amor”
Queridos Amigos,
se mueva, actúe, de y comparta. Esta no es una estación de servicio, donde
las personas simplemente vienen y toman lo que necesitan y se van. Somos
una familia de fe, una comunidad relacionada. Necesitamos la conexión y
afiliación, participación y dedicación de todos los miembros para tener éxito.
Jesús pudo haber sido un recaudador de fondos.
Ustedes pueden pensar que he perdido la cabeza con
todas estas campañas de recaudación de fondos. Digo
que Jesús podría haber sido un recaudador de fondos
porque la recaudación de fondos 101 propone que la
clave del éxito son las relaciones. Sin lugar a dudas Jesús
valoró las relaciones - y con éxito las fomentó e invitó a
otros a participar en la vida que esas relaciones ofrecen. La fiesta de hoy rinde
homenaje al enlace y la conexión entre el Padre, el Hijo y el Espíritu Santo y
nos anima a compartir ese vínculo.
La comunidad del Padre y del Hijo y del Espíritu Santo, de manera
interrelacionada, promueve la acción y participación. El Padre crea. El Hijo
redime y el Espíritu santifica. Estos verbos no son pasivos. Todo lo que el
Dios Trino hace lo hace por puro amor. El amor puro que actúa en la relación
hace que grandes cosas sucedan. El amor puro creó al mundo. El amor puro
descendió del cielo para ser uno entre nosotros y para sufrir y morir por
nosotros. El amor puro se mueve en la Iglesia, para guiarnos y protegernos.
El amor puro nos invita a participar en el amor del Dios Trino y brindar ese
amor al mundo. En relación, sin embargo, con el Dios Trino, me refiero
relativamente, requiere abnegación y conversión, y absolutamente exige
acción. ¿Están listos para actuar?
Nos conectamos con nuestro Dios Trino cuando oramos. No hay mejor
manera de silenciar a una multitud católica como agarrar un micrófono y
decir estas cinco palabras: “En el nombre del Padre ...” la conversación se
detiene; las bebidas no se consumen; los tenedores se ponen en las mesas.
Sabemos que palabras siguen a esas cinco, “...Y del Hijo, y del Espíritu Santo.”
Nos recuerda de su relación, y de la nuestra con ellos. Tiene sentido para que
nos detengamos y reflexionemos sobre el poder de la relación y el poder que
tenemos cuando nos sumergimos en esa relación.
Por lo tanto permitamos que el amor del Padre, Hijo y Espíritu nos
motive y que nos llame a la acción. Para que la comunidad de San Juan
Berchmans crezca y tenga éxito, debemos, repito, debemos centrarnos en
cómo estamos relacionados con los demás y con Dios. Cuando permitimos
que Dios nos impulse a la acción, no podremos evitar relacionarnos con los
demás. Porque el Espíritu Santo ha derramado el amor de Dios en nuestros
corazones, debemos compartir ese amor con los que nos rodean. Ese es el
desafío de la vida Cristiana.
En este Domingo de la Trinidad, el día en que pensamos en la calidad de
relación de nuestro Dios trino, alabo y agradezco a la Trinidad por hacernos
parte de la relación. Esta solemnidad, marcada después del Domingo de
Pentecostés, es una síntesis del misterio pascual. El Padre, el Hijo y el Espíritu,
participan plenamente en el acto redentor de la pasión, muerte, resurrección
y ascensión. Su obra comunal, hecha en el amor para toda la creación, señaló
el camino para nuestra propia esperanza en la vida eterna.
Estando en relación con la Santísima Trinidad, permitiendo envolvernos
en el amor del Padre, Hijo y Espíritu, viviremos con esperanza, incluso en
tiempos de incertidumbre. En el proceso de Renueva mi Iglesia, debemos
confiar en nuestro Dios Trino. Debemos poner nuestra esperanza en Dios.
Porque, como San Pablo nos recuerda: “La esperanza no defrauda, porque
Dios ha infundido su amor en nuestros corazones por medio del Espíritu
Santo que él mismo nos ha dado.”
La solemnidad de hoy no celebra un evento, sino una realidad, y nos
recuerda que todo lo que somos y todo lo que hacemos como cristianos debe
hacerse en el nombre de (y con la inspiración, orientación, y confianza en
el poder del ...) Padre, del Hijo y del Espíritu Santo. La solemnidad de hoy
también nos enseña que estamos invitados a estar en relación con Dios y con
los demás. ¡En San Juan Berchmans tratamos de hacer eso!
Piensen en sus relaciones, en especial su relación con el Padre, Hijo, y el
Espíritu Santo. Construyan esa alianza. ¡Vivan el amor!
En la misa de hoy, los invitamos a participar en una encuesta. Queremos
saber lo que ustedes desean en esta gran parroquia y en lo que pueden
participar. Necesitamos y queremos que ustedes estén involucrados, actuando
y relacionándose con los demás. No podemos tener una comunidad pasiva.
Necesitamos una comunidad activa. Necesitamos una comunidad unida que

Religious Education Program:

Registration is underway for the 2016-2017 school year. Children who attended the PreCommunion or PreConfirmation classes this year must register again for the coming year so they will be
able to make First Holy Communion or Confirmation in 2017.
Register before July 1 and there is no registration fee. After July 1
there will be a $20 registration fee. Registration forms are available at the Parish Rectory and on the parish website. Classes for the 2016-2017 school year begin Saturday, Sept. 10.
Our dedicated and faith-filled volunteer catechists would welcome some additional teachers on their team.The Religious Education program meets from
9 to 10:30 a.m. on most Saturdays from September through April. Consider
being a substitute catechist if a weekly commitment is too much at this time.

Programa de Educación Religiosa:
La registración ya está abierta para el año escolar 2016-2017. Los
niños que asistieron a las clases Pre-Comunión o Pre-Confirmación
