29, at the hospital and on Friday, Sept. 2, at the Backus Outpatient Care Center.
The blood drive at Backus will be held in the main lobby
conference rooms from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. The event at
the BOCC at 111 Salem Turnpike in Norwich on the Red
Cross Save-a-Life Bus will be held from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Windham campus garden proves fruitful

The garden, located near the
n Windham Hospital
Hatch entrance, includes tomatoes,
Foundation
squash, basil and other herbs and
vegetables used for dishes for staff
and guests in the café and sold individually to help raise funds to
continue the garden. Garden vegetables and herbs are not used for
patient dishes.
The garden’s borders were built using environmentally-friendly
wood, and it was fertilized using compost generated by all-natural
materials right on the hospital grounds.
“The compost came from the leaves we’ve removed from the
ground, grass clippings, wood chips from fallen branches, weeds,
and leftover mulch,” says John Grenier from Plant Operations.
Karen Laboy from food services says maintaining the garden
means a little extra work but it’s worth it.
“It’s awesome and it tastes great,” says Laboy.

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Marcella “Marcy”
Mowaish who passed away on Aug. 21.
