THE MEETING OF ANCIENT CUISINES
02 11 TO SEPTEMBER CO MOROC Y! E PART H T G N I N ARE JOI THE MEETING OF ANCIENT CUISINES Latin America’s most important food fair opens soon! From September 2 to 11, around 400,000 local and foreign visitors will gather at the 9TH Mistura fair on the Costa Verde in Lima’s Magdalena del Mar district. This unique fair includes a variety of regions and different actors that make up Peru’s gastronomy — street food vendors, rustic country foods, restaurants, holes-in-the-wall, popular confectioners, bakers, and producers of pisco and chocolate. Mistura is a true fiesta of all that is Peruvian, where you’ll enjoy Peru’s best foods and the most iconic cultural traditions. Added to this mixture of national flavors, this year we have new attractions — a varied selection of the world’s ancient cuisines will be sharing their culture and the flavors and aromas of their traditional dishes. Mexico, India and Morocco will lead this facet, joining in the fiesta with some of the world’s and Peru’s most outstanding chefs, who will be giving master classes and free cooking demonstrations. 02 11 TO SEPTEMBER CO MOROC Y! E PART H T G N I N ARE JOI The Grand Market, located in the heart of the fair, will host more than 300 farmers from all over Peru who will be bringing the best of their crops. The special theme this year will be legumes, to honor the International Year of Legumes. Peru’s most famous cooks and the best regional cooks will prepare exquisite dishes with the produce brought straight from the field by the farmers themselves. Some of the dishes that will shine include lima beans, chickpeas and other beans in stews, hot spices and pickles. The Teresa Izquierdo prize will bring together women with small cooking enterprises from around Lima and the outlying areas of Huacho, Huaral, Cañete, Huarochirí, Supe, Barranca, Pativilca and Sayán — all areas well-known for their proverbial foods such as spicy duck stew, tamales, seafood cebiches, shrimp in hot cebiche sauce, or barbecued pork. Mistura offers many attractions this year, including the Pisco Pavilion, shops selling handcrafted Peruvian food products, as well as a wide range of foods such as cebiches, regional cuisines and barbecues and grills. Mistura 2016 holds contests to award prizes to the best young cooks and pastry makers, and an inter-school contest. There are also competitions between artisan fishermen to discover which makes the best seafood dish. Come and enjoy Mistura, the meeting point of the greatest variety of Peru’s food, folklore, handcrafts and cultural expressions, and much more! Tickets on sale through Teleticket at Wong and Metro stores.
