Merit Awards Weeks 4 & 5
Principal’s Message
We are now more than half way through the
term. Highlights of the last fortnight included
the Stage 1 history excursions to Vaucluse
House. The children had a wonderful day
immersed in the “olden days” way of living
and of course the actual bus trip is always
exciting! Thank you to all the families who
took time out to walk to school, or some of
the way to school, with their children on Friday 20th. Direct
instruction about being pedestrians has far more impact than
learning about it in the classroom.
Our P & C meets this Wednesday evening at 7:00pm. Ms Jo
Fair, our new assistant principal, is coming to the meeting to
explain her role.
We are conscious of the drive to have children keep physically
active. We realise that after school activities are difficult for
working parents to manage. To help we have invited Dance
Zone to run lunchtime classes. A hip hop class has been
running since Term 1 and quite a number of children have been
enjoying it. Dance Zone is looking to provide another lunchtime
dance class in Popping. A flyer with details is included at the
end of this newsletter. Auditions for our usual dance groups for
the East Hills Dance Festival will take place soon.
Karate classes will also commence next term in our school hall
Mondays and Thursdays 5:30 – 6:30pm.

Junior Boys Touch Footy Team
Thanks Mrs Marshall for sharing this photo of the team. They
had a good season but didn’t make it to the final.
IMPORTANT REMINDER
Invoices for Term 2 have been sent out and all fees are now
overdue. Band fees should be finalised by the end of Week 3
each term. Always contact Mrs Bryant or Mrs Trevithick in the
office if you are experiencing difficulties with making payments
on time.
Some people have sent money for Bushwalking but haven’t yet
paid for Sport in Schools or Band fees. Students will not be
accepted into PSSA teams or Bushwalking, which are voluntary
activities, unless all invoice payments are up to date.
Winter Season of PSSA will start this Friday.

Netball
On Friday the senior B netball team played their grand-final
against Panania. We’ve been undefeated all year and despite a
long game we managed to come home with the CHAMPIONS
PLAQUE. The end score was 14-7.
On behalf of the team I would like to thank Mrs Hampson for
being a great coach. The whole team played well and we all
can’t wait to get our badge!
Congratulations to the 48 competitors who took part in the
District Cross Country which was held on May 17 at Padstow
North.
Good luck to the following children who qualified to run in the
Regional Cross Country on June 17.

Grandparents/Open Day
A Book Parade will be held in Week 10 in conjunction with
Grandparents’/Open Day. Students are asked to dress as a
character from a favourite book. They are also encouraged to
carry a copy of the book with them or, alternatively, draw or
print a picture of the front cover of the book. If you do a Google
search, you are likely to find many wonderful and inexpensive
ideas. More information about the day will be sent home soon.
Junior Coding Club
Our Junior Coding Club meets at lunch times on Tuesday.
Students from Year 1 to Year 3 have been using either Scratch
or Code.org to develop their computer programming skills.
The activities are engaging and are paced to meet beginner’s
needs, progressing to more challenging tasks. Students are
really enjoying this opportunity to have fun while learning.
5C Theatre Reviews
After watching the performance at the Riverside Theatre at
Parramatta, Class 5C wrote our reviews and responses to the
show. Read these excellent efforts from Tiffani and Kai.
Vaucluse House
Stage 1 students learnt about what it was like to live at Vaucluse
House for the wealthy family of William Charles and Sarah
Wentworth, with their ten children and 40 servants! The
students explored the ways of life for different household
members at Vaucluse House, and made comparisons with their
own lives today. Students had the opportunity to play some of
the games enjoyed by children in the 19th century including,
croquet, skittles, cup and ball, quoits and hoops.
If your child is interested to know more about this, get them to
come along and give it a go.
Ms Green
Years 5 /6 coding club is Wednesday lunchtime and Yr 4 is
Thursday lunchtime. Come to the computer room after eating
time and Miss Harding will be there.
