spiritual principles of the Old Testament and on the teachings of Jesus. The traditional
biblical concept of tithing is a way of thanking God for all the blessings he has given
us by returning to him a portion or our Time, Talent and Treasure. Stewardship changes the spiritual lives of people who practice it and transforms our parish as a whole.

The World Meeting of Families will take place in Philadelphia, September 21-26. To
celebrate this historic event, IHM will be holding a bilingual family rosary following
the 4:00 p.m. Vigil Mass on Saturday, September 26. Join us as we pray for the families of the world, and stay afterward for a photo opportunity with Pope Francis!
This evening event will play the Pope’s comments to
Congress earlier that day, September 24, 2015. Then a panel
of Catholic theologians and a political scientist will briefly
discuss his speech. Their comments will be followed by a
question and answer period with the audience.
The screening of the Pope’s address to Congress, panel
discussion, and reception following the discussion are free
and open to the public. There will be a voluntary collection
to help the Catholic Student Union at Emory University.
Students will collect donations as you leave the talk. Please
support our current and future generation of Catholic leaders.

On August 27 our Home and School Association hosted their annual back to school coffee
for parents. This is a wonderful opportunity
for our new parents to get to know some of
our “veterans” and for everyone to reunite
after the summer break. This year’s event also
included a table for the Divine Playtime
Childcare Program, run by IHM parishioner
and parent Natascha Beck (above). After the
coffee parents made their way to the gym for
our first all-school assembly of the new school
year.
IHM School has a few more coveted openings for the 2015-16
school year. Please ask your friends or relatives to contact
[email protected] for more information.
IHM School will be closed Monday, September 7 in observance
of Labor Day. Our students also have a holiday on Tuesday,
September 8 while our teachers attend an in-service program.

Behind-the-Scenes of the Liturgy and Explanatory Mass
with Monsignor Jowdy: September 13 and 20
Are you curious about the different vestments, vessels,
and gestures that you see each week at Mass? On September 13, Father Al will lead a “behind-the-scenes”
tour of the many objects and symbols that contribute to
our holy sacrifice at the altar each week. On September
20, he will explain the various movements of the Mass
step-by-step. These presentations will take place in the
church at 10:15. They are intended for the special benefit of our RCIA inquirers, but they are open to anyone
else who may be interested. Parents of children in GIFT
classes are especially encouraged to attend.
Bishop Luis Zarama will be celebrating the Sacrament of Confirmation at IHM on
November 11 at 7:00 pm. Tenth-graders wishing to be confirmed, along with their
parents, should plan to attend an information session on September 15 at 7:00 p.m.
in the lower level.
All candidates must have received two years of religious education immediately
prior to Confirmation, either in a Catholic school or in our parish G.I.F.T. program.

listed a class during the Fall Break weekend of October 10) as well as an overnight
retreat November 7-8.
Adults who wish to be confirmed should contact Drew Denton
([email protected]) for information about a separate course of preparation.
The World Meeting of Families will

Gratitude unlocks the fullness of life. It turns what we have into enough, and more.
It turns denial into acceptance, chaos to order, confusion to clarity. It can turn a meal into a feast,
a house into a home, a stranger into a friend. Gratitude makes sense of our past,
brings peace for today, and creates a vision for tomorrow.

“All This I Do For the Sake of the Gospel”
We have reached our goal in pledges for the 2015 Archbishop’s Annual
Appeal! But we really should be achieving TWICE our goal each year,
since AAA funds received over and above our goal return to us at IHM
without any Archdiocesan assessment! Our gifts help the charitable
works of the Archdiocese AND they help our parish. If you have not
already made a pledge to the 2015 AAA, please visit
http://appeal.archatl.com to make your pledge today!
Thank you to all who have already pledged! Remember to look for
your monthly pledge reminders, and please do your best to honor your
pledge before the end of the year. If you are having any
difficulty whatsoever with your pledge or pledge reminders, please
contact Richard Plachta at [email protected] or 404-636-1418,

United States, located in Washington, D.C.
CUA provides an academically rigorous
education guided by Catholic intellectual
tradition to 6,000 students every year. Every dollar we give directly supports financial
aid for students from dioceses across the
country, including ours. Please be generous.
Deo Gratias! We are grateful to all of our parishioners who have remembered this parish in their wills or estate
plans. Did you know that persons who have made a planned gift for our parish automatically receive membership
in the Deo Gratias Society of the Catholic Foundations of North Georgia? Among other benefits, this membership includes an invitation to the annual Deo Gratias Society Mass and luncheon with Archbishop Gregory in
September. If you have already included our parish in your will or estate plans, but have not informed the parish
office, please let Monsignor Al know today so we can coordinate your invitation to the September event—or call
The Catholic Foundation directly at 404-497-9440.
