QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS
Why does not God support a
christian so that h e does not fall
when overtaken by a weakness?
This is a question h a r d to u n derstand, one, however, t h a t we
must u n d e r s t a n d or m u c h of the
christian life will be veiled in mystery. I take pleasure in meeting
this question f r a n k l y a n d in giving
a pungent question a direct answer.
We first establish t h e f a c t t h a t
'God never fails to c a r r y out His
part of life's contract. Joshua 1:5
we read, "I will never fail thee nor
forsake thee." See also J o h n 15:7.
BY
We now proceed to find t h e trouble.
J a m e s 1:13. Let n o m a n s a y when
he is tempted, " t h a t I a m tempted
of God," for God t e m p t s n o m a n ,
t h a t is to say, t h a t God never discourages or breaks down the morale
of a h u m a n soul. T h e scripture
continues, "Every m a n is t e m p t e d ,
when he, is d r a w n away of his own
lust" or entice in o t h e r words, if
he let's go or loses contact with
the source of life, God. T h e n a t u r e to do wrong is within, the occasion is f o u n d in circumsCances
a'cout us. Man's r j g n i t y and salvation is in rising above his weakness, t o t h e victor, not victim.
Again, this question can be answered by • recalling t h e d r a m a of
King David and his son Absalom.
W h y didn't King David support or
rescue Absalom when he was slip-

ping? Why let Absalom sow wild
oats and r e a p d e a t h ? No doubt
King David did everything h u m a n ly possible to keep Absalom f r o m
wreck a n d ruin. W h y does any p a r ent let his offspring stray, wander
and finally be lost? I t is not t h e
fault p f the parent, (the analogy
of which is God.) r a t h e r t h e persistent refusal to Jive by the will
and instructions of t h e parent. ,
E. F.KflSTENS
A weakness or fault indulged in
will invariably destroy the u s e f u l ness of a h u m a n life. If a f a u l t is
in t h e f o r m of a leak in the hull
of a ship, the law of safety will r e pair the fault, or else the law of destruction will claim the ship. God's
la.w operates in t h e intelligence of
t h e ship's management, the law of destruction always lurks on t h e
seas.
