SACRED HEART CATHOLIC CHURCH, CROSBY, TEXAS ARCHDIOCESE OF GALVESTON-HOUSTON July 28, 2013 From Father Arnel In the words of Jesus, persistence is an element of prayer. Persistence though, as an attitude, is more than just repeating prayer over and over again. It is the person’s character that molds that person to seek out God in solitude many times during the day. Persistence in the context of prayer, as a virtue, is not a need based thing. It is everything! It means that we pray not only when we need something but many times and/or at all times every day. It means there is no excuse for not praying. Yet there is more to prayer we need to understand. Prayer here is so far, still an act: an activity which is part of life. At certain times of the day we stop, go into solitude and invoke God’s help, his mercy or just plain talk to God. The goal of holiness through prayer is more than that. The goal of holiness is to fuse into one, life and prayer. Prayer is no longer part of life but life itself. Skipping all other levels of holiness, the highest level is when one prays no longer for things but for God himself, the giver of things. When one greatly desires no longer for the world but to hold in oneself the maker of the world, one has achieved perfection. Fr.
