Acts 10:34a,37-43 / Col 3:1-4 / Jn 20:1-9 Palm Sunday of the Passion of the Lord A Note from the Pastor In every Jewish home at the celebration of the Passover a question is asked of the father of the house. It is simply ‘why is this night unlike all other nights? In response, the story of the deliverance of the Jewish people from the tyranny of the Egyptians is read from the book of Exodus. This has happened for thousands of years. The same question will be asked this year in the homes of the Jews. I would like to ask a question? Why is this week unlike all other weeks for Christians? Holy Week is not so much a holy time as a time to be kept holy. Pope John Paul II in preparation for jubilee 2000 reminded us that ‘the Christian has a duty to sanctify time.’ Time is God’s, and none of us knows whether he or she will be alive tomorrow. The breath within us is God’s. It is his creative power that keeps us in existence. We make time holy by tithing time to God, in giving back to him what is already his. In this week through our ceremonies we will tithe time back to God, through listening to his Word in scripture and celebrate his presence and meet him in the sacraments. We will journey with him as the final drama of our salvation is played out in word, song and sacrament. We are all Good Friday People. We are all on the pilgrimage of life. On the journey each of us invariably meets the cross. Jesus Christ has gone through the gateway of suffering before us. He knows all about it. ‘Come down from the Cross if you are the Son of God,’ taunted some people standing before the crucified Christ. He didn’t. The cross was not the end. It will be the same for us. In this week ahead let us join Jesus in his final journey through pain, suffering and the cross to the glorious Resurrection. Fr. Spring Retreat - “Because He Lives!” April 17,18, 19 Alive In You Mission Trip to TN - June 9-14 Steubenville Conference - July 10-12 Last week we talked about the Sacraments. Our Catholic Sacraments are a tangible sign of God’s Grace working in our life. Jesus instituted the Sacraments, but how do we know that? We looked into Sacred Scripture and the Catechism to find our answers. Then did some small group work to review. If you would like to continue the conversation at home, try asking why we believe Jesus is truly present in the Eucharist? Or why should we confess our sins to a priest? Why can’t we get married on the beach? Please be sure to send all deposits for Spring and Summer activities this Sunday! Thank you and God Bless you! Lessons are prepared in advance for leaders. New volunteers will be paired with experienced leaders for training. The time commitment is one Sunday every 4-6 weeks (during Mass). Please consider sharing your time and talent to be a part of this important ministry. No prior experience is necessary.
