Bhd. & Universiti Putra Malaysia TOPIC 4: Active Living Objective 1: To determine active lifestyle based on the Physical Activity Pyramid Objective 2: To perform various physical activity in order to increase daily physical activity – towards achieving 10,000 steps per day PROGRAM CARA HIDUP SIHAT Kementerian Pelajaran Malaysia In Collaboration bersama with: 1 Importance of Physical Activity 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 • Control body weight by burning excess energy • Enhance muscle flexibility and strength • Enhance bone strength to prevent osteoporosis • Body becomes fitter and healthier • Strengthen immunity to prevent illnesses • Reduce risks of obesity and chronic disease (heart disease, diabetes or high blood pressure) • Reduce stress PROGRAM CARA HIDUP SIHAT Kementerian Pelajaran Malaysia In Collaboration bersama with: 2 Physical Activity Pyramid • Activities to be limited • High intensity activities • Moderate intensity activities • Low intensity activities PROGRAM CARA HIDUP SIHAT Kementerian Pelajaran Malaysia In Collaboration bersama with: 3 3 Using the Pedometer • To record the number of steps daily. • The minimum recommendation for an active lifestyle is to achieve 10,000 steps a day. • Use it everyday to monitor your achievement in number of steps daily. • If you have not reached the minimum requirement, plan your goals and do it progressively. PROGRAM CARA HIDUP SIHAT Kementerian Pelajaran Malaysia In Collaboration bersama with: 4 4 How to use the Pedometer 1 Check the 3 basic buttons (MODE, SET, RESET) at the back of the pedometer 6 Now press the MODE button until the arrow points to STEP 7 Press the RESET button and the screen will display ‘0’ PROGRAM CARA HIDUP SIHAT Kementerian Pelajaran Malaysia 2 Start by pressing the MODE button until the arrow points to KM 5 After value is set, wait for 3 seconds to return to MODE (KM) 3 Press the SET button and wait till the number display on the screen starts blinking 4 Then press the SET button several times to enter size/distance of of one step (CM) 8 Now you can move/walk and the pedometer will start recording your steps In Collaboration bersama with: 5 Conclusion 1. Use the Physical Activity Pyramid as a guide and start progressively. 2. Perform more activities at Level 1, 2 and 3 (referred to physical activity pyramid) and stay active as often as possible. 3. Limit sedentary activities (Level 4) to not more than 30 minutes per session. Remember! Set a target of achieving at least 10,000 steps a day.
