Masters of Ceremony and Auctioneers
Damian Serong
Damian Serong, Manager of Restaurant Sales for Best Brands Inc., entered the
wine industry back in 1999 in Sydney, Australia with Southcorp Wines, who at the
time was Australia’s largest wine company with brands like Penfolds, Lindeman’s
and a host of boutique wineries. In 2004, Damian established a small consulting
business to help vineyards in his home state of Victoria develop export sales around
the world with a primary focus on the UK, Scandinavia, Canada and the US.
In 2007, Damian came across to the US to focus on establishing an import
operation for Australian wineries, based here in Nashville. With the downturn in
the US economy, Damian switched his focus to running a specialist wine
wholesale operation in Nashville with a strong focus on French, Italian and
Spanish wines. Over the past four years, Damian has brought a range of
prestigious French wineries to Nashville including Château Palmer, Château
Reignac, Domaine Parent and Domaine Servin. In 2010, Damian brought
renowned Bordeaux negociant Jeffrey Davies to Nashville to host a barrel tasting
of 2009 Bordeaux wines; Nashville was one of only two cities in the US to host
such an event. One of the challenges of working in Nashville is that his sales team
often struggle with his southern accent. It has been suggested by one member of
his sales team that he actually speaks Urdu rather than English.
Tristan Kinsley
Tristan Kinsley, Owner of The Wine Shoppe at Green Hills, is one of the younger
figures in the Nashville wine community, and a proud member of the next generation
helping to bring wine and philanthropy together with the Nashville Wine Auction.
A life-long entrepreneur, Tristan has been self-employed since before he could
drive. While still a teenager, he was a professional musician and spent eight years
touring and recording with a variety of artists, including Shirley King, daughter of
blues legend B.B. King and the critically-acclaimed folk-rock band, The Princes of
Hollywood. He was also the owner of a recording studio and music production
company that he sold in 2007, as well as the co-author of a book about the music
industry, Making It: How To Go From Wanting A Career As A Musician To
Having One.
Tristan’s move to Nashville in 2008 coincided, ironically, with a shift from the
business of music to that of wine. After learning the ropes as the manager of The
Wine Shoppe at Green Hills, Tristan and his wife Carrie orchestrated the purchase
of the store from its former owner. They continue to hone their vision for the store
as a trusted source for fine and unique wine and spirits and look forward to the
future of wine in Nashville.
Michelle Hilton
Michelle Hilton is a wine professional in Nashville, Tennessee at Omni Beverage
Co., where she specializes in fine wines and smaller production, craft wines. She
has studied with the Court of Master Sommeliers, completing her first level, and is
now preparing for the certificate level. She is also a member of the Guild of
Master Sommeliers. Michelle enjoys working with both retail and restaurants
accounts, planning wine dinners, organizing tastings and events. She brings
enthusiasm and passion to everything she does.
Michelle is a graduate of Belmont University, and also a proud mother of Jack, 9
years old, and Sarah, 7 years old.

enthusiasm for whatever he is selling makes his auction style successful for nonprofits around the country.
Ron is a second-generation auctioneer, whose family’s established business in
Kentucky offers a weekly auto auction for dealers and the public, while Ron

Auction.”
Live Auction Instructions
Each Live Auction lot will be offered in catalog sequence. Any variation from the
catalog description will be announced by the emcee at the time the lot is offered.
Please listen carefully as the emcee and auctioneer present various lots and explain
the procedure for placing bids. The emcee will announce each lot number, and
bidding will commence at the auctioneer’s discretion. Each lot will be sold to the
highest bidder. Bidding will advance in increments decided by the auctioneer. All
sales are final.
Indication of a bid should be made by a positive display of your numbered bidding
paddle, and may be made directly to the auctioneer or any of the ring men nearby.
Note: Nose-scratching and earlobe pulling may be done with impunity. It is,
however, unwise to frantically wave to your friend across the room while bidding
is in progress!
Dutch Auctions
Some of the lots in the Live Auction will be sold at Dutch Auction. Unlike the
individual bidding of a regular auction lot, a Dutch Auction works by elimination.
The auctioneer suggests an opening bid and anyone willing to pay that price stands
up. (Everyone present may stand.) As the price rises higher and higher, anyone
willing to pay the new bid remains standing; others simply take their seats. This
continues until the number of people standing matches the number of items
available. Each bidder standing when the hammer falls receives one item, paying
the last (highest) bid named. Please indicate to the auctioneer if you wish more
than one item.
Conditions of Bidding and Lot Purchases
1. Lots may be added, amended or deleted by the published addenda to the
catalog, by notice posted on the lot display, or by verbal announcement during
the auction.
2. The Nashville Wine Auction will not be responsible or liable for the accuracy
of the descriptions of the wines offered in the catalog or on bid sheets. Such
information and notes about each lot are statements of opinion or references
from published wine sources or experts. There is no warranty, express or
implied, as to any sale lot’s quality, value or suitability for any purpose
whatsoever.
3. All wines and tangible merchandise are sold “As is, Where is.” Wine and
other tangible lots are on display and available for your examination. By
bidding on any lot, you acknowledge that you have inspected the lot, and find
it in satisfactory condition to warrant your bid.
Lots made up of trips, dinners or other intangible services are represented in
good faith in the catalog. By bidding on a lot, you acknowledge that you have
read the description of that lot, and find the description satisfactory to warrant
your bid.
4. The Nashville Wine Auction makes every effort to maintain and store wine
responsibly. When wine is received, it is stored in a temperature controlled
cellar. It is carefully moved to the auction site in a temperature controlled
vehicle. The Nashville Wine Auction is not responsible for the provenance of
any wine or for the condition of its storage and handling before being placed in
the possession of the Nashville Wine Auction.
5. Bids on lots will be accepted only from registered persons who pre-registered
their credit card and a current bidding number issued by the Nashville Wine
Auction. Bidding methods and rules may vary for certain lots. This
information will be given in the catalog, on the bid sheet or display, or by the
Auctioneer. Bids may be rejected, if the stated requirements are not met by the
bidder.
6. A live auction bid is only valid when it is recognized by the Auctioneer. At the
word “Sold,” the acknowledged bidder is deemed to have purchased the lot and
thereupon assumes responsibility to pay the price announced by the Auctioneer.
By participating in the Auction, a bidder agrees to pay the full purchase price
for all lots recorded by auction personnel to his/her assigned bid number.
7. For each lot purchased, the buyer will be required to sign a form verifying the
buyer’s name and the lot’s price directly after the lot has been sold. These
verification forms will be brought to the bidder’s assigned table. Therefore, it
is necessary for each bidder to remain at his/her assigned table throughout the
evening.
8. In case of a bid dispute in the live auction, either among individual bidders or
between bidders and the Auctioneer, the Auctioneer will have the sole and final
authority to resolve the dispute. Such resolution may include, but is not limited
to: reselling, reopening the bidding only between the disputing bidders, or
awarding the sale at the Auctioneer’s judgment. The final bidder and amount
announced by the Auctioneer is indisputable.
9. Full payment is required at or before the conclusion of the Auction and prior to
the removal of any lot. l’Eté du Vin accepts checks, MasterCard, Visa,
Discover and American Express. The credit card(s) you provided at
registration to receive your bidding paddle will be charged for the amount of
your lot purchases at the end of the auction unless another form of payment is
presented at Check Out. The Check Out station will be clearly marked.
Buyers will be given a statement which must be presented at the Lot Pick-Up
area in order for the lots to be released. Guests who have pre-registered may
proceed directly to Pick Up with their confirmation forms.
10. All buyers must take possession of their wine and/or other tangible purchases,
from the Lot Pick-Up area, on the night of the auction. l’Eté du Vin will bear
no responsibility for any wine or other tangible lot that has not been taken
possession of and removed from the auction premises by the buyer.
11. In the event of loss or damage to any lot incurred in the course of its handling
or storage during the auction event and before possession is taken by the buyer,
the buyer will be compensated only as follows:
• If the lot has not been paid for, the exact amount of the bid amount will be
subtracted from the buyer’s bidding account.
• If the lot has been paid for, the buyer will receive a refund of the bid amount
only.
The goods sold at this event have no valuation beyond the amount of the final
bid. Therefore, such credit or refunds are the sole remedy which will be made
for such losses.
12. Lots that are not picked on the night of the auction will be moved to the l’Eté
du Vin office. Law prohibits l’Eté du Vin from delivering wine to buyers after
purchase, therefore, it is the buyer’s responsibility to pick up their purchases at
the office (3015 Poston Avenue, Second Floor, Nashville, TN 37203). Lots
that have not been picked up within 90 days after July 21, 2012 will be
forfeited.
13. The Nashville Wine Auction is classified as a tax-exempt corporation (Tax I.D.
Number is 71-0918163) under the Internal Revenue Code Section 501(c)(3).
Trip Guidelines
1. Features and Amenities: Trips will be scheduled by the Nashville Wine
Auction according to the catalog description or as described by the auctioneer.
l’Eté du Vin trips are comprised of donated components, many of which have
limitations and restrictions. Deviations from the trip description which incur
additional costs will be at the buyer(s) own expense.
2. Trip Components: Trips are sold as a package. Accommodations, dinners, air
transportation, rental cars, venue tickets, rail passes, scheduled visits, or any
other features which are included in the catalog lot description must be used
only in conjunction with the specific trip described in the catalog.
3. Scheduling: Unless stated otherwise in the catalog description, all trips must
be completed within one year from the date of the auction. Trips not taken
within this or the special stated time limits will be forfeited with no refund
made, without regard for the reason such trip was not taken. If a specific date
for a trip is stated in the catalog, the trip is limited to that date only and must
be taken on that specific date, no exceptions. Scheduling of donated features is
subject to availability. Trips with special features (tours, tastings, stays in
private homes) must be scheduled at least 60 days in advance.
4. Changes and Cancellation: Once the trip is scheduled and confirmed by the
donors, changes may not be allowed by the donors. If the changing or
canceling of any feature results in the donor being unable to honor the
requested changes, the Nashville Wine Auction will not refund any portion of
the lot purchase.
5. Airline Restrictions:
• Airlines maintain a limited inventory of donated seats on any flight. Every
effort will be made to fulfill your desired travel dates, but they are not
guaranteed available. Once your flight(s) has been ticketed, changes in the
schedule are rarely attainable and all require a change-in-schedule fee. Any
re-booking fee will become the responsibility of the buyer. Airline schedules
are subject to change and are beyond our control. Should a cancellation
occur, American Airlines will make a reasonable effort to accommodate the
buyer. However, the Nashville Wine Auction is not responsible in the event
of flight changes or cancellations.
• Departure & Arrival locations must be served by American Airlines. Code
shares do not qualify.
• Flights must be booked at least 3 months in advance. Seats for promotional
tickets/travel are capacity controlled and are based on availability at the time
of reservation. Although seats may be available for purchase through
American Airlines, the same seats are not guaranteed available for use with
vouchers/promotional tickets. Once ticketed, fees per person apply for simple
date/time changes, routing changes, and/or name changes. It is the buyer(s)
responsibility to pay these fees if changes are made.
• The class of travel is also based upon availability. If the specified class is not
available for any portion of your flight, l’Eté du Vin is not responsible.
Certain legs of your trip may not offer first or business class, or these seats
may be filled. American Airlines will try and accommodate the class
specification as best they can, but it is not guaranteed.
• Trip buyers are responsible for luggage fees.
6. International Trips:
• For the majority of l’Eté du Vin trips, buyers will travel in the comfort of
International Business Class of service through the generosity of American
Airlines. Included in their donation is domestic air travel from the airport in
the American Airline’s system closest to your home to and from the city of
international departure. If you will be traveling from a home location not
served by American Airlines, travel to the nearest airport in the airline’s
system will be your responsibility. The international portion is the more
difficult to arrange and is scheduled first. Only then is the domestic portion
scheduled.
• The buyer will pay American Airlines international taxes charged up front.
However, upon receiving the receipt of said payment, l’Eté du Vin will
reimburse the buyer for these taxes. Proper documentation of the payment
must be submitted to the l’Eté du Vin office within 60 days after the return
date of the trip.
7. Domestic Trips: Please read the catalog lot description carefully regarding
domestic air transportation and the class of service offered for each lot. Some
trips do not include air transportation. If included in the trip, domestic flights
may be contributed or arranged through various airlines. Review the lot
description thoroughly before bidding.
8. Upgrades and Mileage Credit: Upgrades are not available on donated tickets
for either domestic or international flights. Mileage credit or any other
promotional benefits are not available for donated air transportation. Stopovers
are not allowed, except for connecting purposes.
9. Rental Cars: Some trips may include the use of a rental car. Rental car
companies require payment to be made by the person operating the car. The
Nashville Wine Auction cannot guarantee that the type of car reserved will be
available at the time of pick-up. Based on the inventory of the car provider, a
specific car which was reserved may not be available at the time of pick-up. If
the car reserved is not available, a suitable replacement of a comparable model
will be reimbursed by the Nashville Wine Auction. Any additional upgrade
made by the buyer will not be reimbursed.
10. Reimbursements: For practical reasons (or requirements by vendors), some
trip features or amenities may have to be paid for by the buyers at the time of
use. Such expenditures will be reimbursed in full by the Nashville Wine
Auction, provided that:
(1) the feature or amenity is specifically included in the trip lot description,
(2) the amount spent is equal to or less than the agreed upon amount set by l’Eté
du Vin,
(3) the buyer renders to the Nashville Wine Auction proper documentation - paid
invoices or credit card receipts, and
(4) all documentation is submitted to the Nashville Wine Auction Administrative
Office within 60 days after the return date of the trip.
11. Vouchers: The buyer is responsible for any vouchers (American Airlines, etc.)
given on auction night. If lost, the Nashville Wine Auction cannot guarantee a
replacement will be granted.

101 - Let’s Get It Started Right! 3 Bottles of Dom
Perignon
l’Eté du Vin Gone Country kicks off with some bubbles! Wooden gift boxes with
1 bottle (750ml) each of:
• Dom Perignon Brut 1985
o “On the nose, this wine opens with notes of red-fleshed peaches, rapidly
evolving into cashew nuts and dried herbs. The aromatic experience finishes
on a note of lightly toasted brioche. On the palate, it offers a host of wellorchestrated, precise and full-bodied tastes. The initial density becomes
creamy, while the long finish ends on a note of glazed citrus fruit. The
unique Dom Perignon style: a rich creamy mousse, fine bubbles, a spirited,
crisp opening leading into a broad palette of aromas and tastes, the delicacy
of substance itself.” - Winemaker’s Notes (92 pts WS)
• Dom Perignon Brut 1990
o “The 1990 vintage is one of our favorites...concentrated with honey-nut,
warm apple tart and spice flavors fill the mouth giving ample flesh to the
firm, fine structure. The bubbles are still remarkably frisky and, in harmony
with the crisp backbone of acid, make for a relatively youthful, elegant and
exquisitely balanced wine. The 1990 Dom Perignon offers a very long
finish.” - RL Liquid Assets (93 points WS)
• Dom Perignon Brut 1992
o “Very fine aromas of quinine, lemon, lime, minerals and gingery; lightly
musky suggestion of yeast autolysis. Very intensely flavored and solidly
structured...Slightly aggressive finish shows excellent persistence...this is
ripe and delicious wine.” - Stephen Tanzer (90 points WS)
Donor(s): Johnny & Alice Lindahl, Jr.
102 - Kistler Series 1998-1999
Kistler is arguably the best-known Chardonnay winemaker in California. These
Chardonnays are aged to perfection and ready for drinking!
• 2 bottles (750ml) of Kistler McCrea Vineyard Chardonnay, Sonoma Mountain
1999
• 2 bottles (750ml) of Kistler McCrea Vineyard Chardonnay, Sonoma Mountain
1998
• 1 bottle (750ml) of Kistler Durrell Vineyard Chardonnay, Sonoma Valley 1999
• 1 bottle (750ml) of Kistler Durrell Vineyard Chardonnay, Sonoma Valley 1998
• 2 bottles (750ml) of Kistler Dutton Ranch Chardonnay, Russian River Valley

103 - Here Sparky - Schrader “Old Sparky”
Cabernet Sauvignon 2005
Schrader Cellars is undoubtedly one of the hottest producers of top-tier (dare we
say “cult”) Cabernet Sauvignon in all of Napa Valley. The lineup from proprietors
Fred and Carol Schrader and über-talented winemaker, Thomas Rivers Brown, is
devoured annually by a loyal following. The big dog in that lineup, Old Sparky, is
produced in magnum only. These bottles rarely come up for sale other than at
auction. At Zachys Spring Auction, this same bottle went for over $1,250! Thank
you Fred and Carol for your generous support. www.schradercellars.com
• 1 magnum (1.5L) of Schrader Cellars “Old Sparky” Beckstoffer to Kalon
Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon 2005
o “...a fabulous effort. Dense purple-hued with sweet, smoky, blackberry,
cassis, roasted meats, toast, and licorice, it possesses tremendous texture, a
sumptuous mid-palate, and a stunning finish.” – Robert Parker (96 pts RP)
Donor(s): Schrader
104 - German Rieslings from 2005-2006
Great German Rieslings can be hard to come by, but thankfully all of the
guesswork has been taken out by a generous donor!
• 2 half-bottles (375ml) of Weingut C. H. Berres Ürziger Würzgarten
Trockenbeerenauslese Riesling 2005
o “Shows an intense lemon candy flavor, with hints of caramel, spice and
sweetness, offset by tangy acidity. Elegant, fresh and beautifully balanced,
with a long finish. 10 cases made.” - BS, Wine Spectator (97 pts WS)
• 4 bottles (750ml) of Weingut Max Ferd. Richter Auslese, Brauneberger JufferSonnenuhr Riesling 2005
o Thomas Jefferson appreciated the Brauneberg wines as the best of those
from the Mosel, which he had tasted when traveling through the Rhine and
Mosel valleys in 1788. This wine is rare and precious. Brauneberg wines
were the first established, and still carry the worldwide reputation of the
great wines from the Mosel. The production costs in the steep slaty hills are
high and the majority of work cannot be done by machinery and is still, as it
has been through the centuries, hard manual work.
• 2 bottles (750ml) of Weingut Weingart Spätlese, Boppard Hamm Feuerlay
Riesling 2005
o “This wine shows off an effusive cocktail of both exotic and domestic fruit
aromas. It’s full bodied and appealing, one could say sexy and I use that
word sparingly in wine descriptions. The finish is ever so satisfying.” –
JubileeWines.com
• 2 half-bottles (375ml) of A. Christmann Auslese, Ruppertsberger Reiterpfad
Riesling 2005
o “Intrigues on the nose, offering tantalizing hints of smoke, nuts and honey.
But this wine is thick and sweet, and it clings to the sides of the glass,
defying attempts to shake it out afterwards. The gooey marmalade flavors
finish long and sticky.” – Wine Enthusiast
• 2 bottles (750ml) of Carl Loewen Spätlese, Detzemer Riesling 2006
o “So concentrated it’s almost thick, this is supported by a solid structure,
which sets the stage for the almond candy, grapefruit and spiced apple pie
flavors. 200 cases made.” - BS, Wine Spectator (94 pts WS)
• 2 bottles (750ml) of Mönchhof Robert Eymael Auslese, Erdener Prälat
Riesling 2006
o “Lively and pure, with pear, violet, peach and mineral notes displayed on a
creamy texture. Elegant and lively, with a mouthwatering finish. 150 cases
imported.” - BS, Wine Spectator (92 pts WS)

105 - Winemaker Dinner with Matt Meyer for 10
at 360 Bistro
On Saturday, March 9, 2013, plan to dine at one of Nashville’s finest restaurants
with winemaker Matt Meyer. Bring your party of 10 to 360 Bistro and experience
Napa Valley terroir expressed through Meyer Family Cellars wines.
Matt Meyer is the son of Justin Meyer, Founder of Silver Oak. Matt grew up in the
Silver Oak Vineyard watching his father grow world renowned Cabernet
Sauvignon. From an early age, Matt’s goal was to be a winegrower like his father.
The passion he developed for wine led him to the University of California, Davis,
where he was awarded a Masters in Viticulture in 2002. For decades, the Meyer
family has created red wines that express a sense of where they have been grown.
With each subsequent vintage you learn something new about the character of
their vineyard. They produce Syrah, Zinfandel Port, and Bonny’s Vineyard
Cabernet. The Bonny’s Vineyard Cabernet was one of the country’s first and
deservedly best examples of a single vineyard designate wine. Over thirty years
ago these precious four acres stood out among thousands that Justin Meyer
cultivated in the heart of the Napa Valley’s Oakville Appellation. The three wines
produced at Meyer Family Cellars are as diverse as the vineyards in which they
are grown. Meyer Family Cellars wines are distributed in Middle Tennessee by
BooneDocks Distribution, LLC.
• Dinner for 10 at 360 Bistro
• Wines provided and served by Guest Winemaker Matt Meyer
• Date: March 9, 2013
Restrictions: To take place March 9, 2013. No exceptions.

cellar. Banner years for California Cab include 1991, 1994, and 2001.
1 bottle (750ml) each of:
• Chateau Montelena Estate Cabernet Sauvignon 1991
• Chateau Montelena Estate Cabernet Sauvignon 1992

107 - 2003 Bordeaux Horizontal from
“Big” Kenny’s Cellar
Treat yourself, and perhaps some lucky friends, to this wonderful collection of
2003 Bordeaux consisting of 3 bottles (750ml) of each of the following wines:
• Château Montrose, St.-Estèphe, France 2003
o “The enormous 2003 Montrose is built along the lines of the 1989…boasts a
dense black/purple color in addition to an extraordinary bouquet of scorched
earth, blackberries, and cassis, fabulous purity, a skyscraper-like texture, and
substantial tannin in the finish. This superb, huge, ripe wine is one of the
vintage’s most prodigious offerings.”- Robert Parker (97+ pts RP)
• Château Léoville Barton, St.-Julien, France 2003
o “One cannot admire enough proprietor Anthony Barton and his classic,
potentially long-lived wines that are models of power, elegance, and
longevity – in short, these wines symbolize what makes Bordeaux so worldrenowned! Probably capable of rivaling the 2000, the uncompromisingly
made, formidably powerful, masculine, and highly extracted 2003 has an
inky purple color to the rim, a big, deep personality with a tight but
promising nose of forest floor, crème de cassis, smoke, charcoal, licorice,
and perhaps even truffle. It is layered, rich, and set for an exceptionally long
life.” - Robert Parker (95+ pts RP)
• Château Ducru-Beaucaillou, St.-Julien, France 2003
o “One of the most compelling Ducru-Beaucaillou’s made in the last quarter
century is the 2003 (which is also the first vintage to be packaged in an
impressive heavy glass bottle with a special long cork). A blend of 80%
Cabernet Sauvignon and 20% Merlot, it is a powerful, tannic, blockbuster
effort revealing a liqueur of mineral-like component intermixed with crème
de cassis, raspberry, and flower characteristics. Having firmed up
considerably since bottling, it exhibits tremendous definition, weight, and
concentration. A brilliant tour de force!”- Robert Parker (96 pts RP)

108 - Fighter Pilot for a Day Adventure for 1 with
4-Night Stay and Airfare for 2
Your party of one will experience the thrill and excitement of being a fighter pilot
in a light attack fighter in air-to-air combat. This basic air combat maneuvers
program (phase I) is totally unique. This is not an air combat simulator and you
don’t need a pilot’s license! One additional combat flight certificate can be
purchased upon request.
This experience gives you an introduction to Tactical Fighter Maneuvers using the
actual skills taught to current military fighter pilots. After being fitted with a full
flight suit and completing the air combat briefings you’ll climb into the fighter
aircraft alongside your instructor. With your hands on the controls you will engage
in five to six combat engagements. Your flight will be recorded on video-tape and
reviewed in a flight debriefing where you’ll be given a copy to take home at the
end of your amazing day.
The instructors, both military and civilian, have enviable credentials. Most are
former military fighter pilots from the Air Force, Navy and Marine Corps, and
several are graduates of Red Flag and the Navy Fighter Weapons School. This
fighter pilot experience features SIAI Marchetti SF-260 and Extra 300L propeller
planes, the types used by the military in training their fighter pilots to provide you
with the best experience. With 260-300hp, they are capable of airspeeds up to 236
knots, +6 G-forces and are highly maneuverable giving you the most realistic air
combat and fighter pilot experience available.
Enjoy a 4-night stay in a standard guest room at your choice of any participating
Hyatt property. Participating properties are subject to change without notice.

• 2 bottles (750ml) of Torbreck Run Rig Shiraz 2005
o “…a kinky, exotic bouquet of fresh road tar, smoke, lavender, black pepper,

the next 10-12 years and drink well through 2040 in the style of a
Chapoutier Hermitage.” – Robert Parker (98+ pts RP)
• 4 bottles (750ml) of Torbreck Descendant Shiraz 2006
o “…emits an expressive, sexy perfume of violets, wood smoke, black pepper,
espresso, blueberry, and chocolate. Full-bodied, on the palate, this

112A - Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars Cab Horizontal
1 magnum (1.5L) each of:
• Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars Cask 23 Estate Cabernet Sauvignon 2007
o “The wine is a blend of the most distinctive fruit from the S.L.V. and FAY
vineyards. Made only in great vintage years, it is one of the most highly
regarded and collected wines worldwide.” – Winemaker’s Notes
• Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars S.L.V. Estate Cabernet Sauvignon 2007
o “Up to seven S.L.V. Cabernet Sauvignon blocks contributed to this wine.
Each lot was vinified and aged separately in small French oak barrels for 24
months, allowing the characteristics of each block to develop. In the latter
stages of aging, the barrel lots were blended and the 2007 S.L.V. was born.”
– Winemaker’s Notes
• Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars FAY Estate Cabernet Sauvignon 2007
o “The FAY vineyard is where the history of Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars began
in 1969 when the winery’s founder tasted Nathan Fay’s 1968 homemade
Cabernet. He knew instantly that he had found what he was searching for,
classic elements of fruit and structure, suppleness and balance. A style
dubbed ‘an iron fist in a velvet glove.’ Today, FAY, along with S.L.V.,
remains the heart and soul of their winemaking.” – Winemaker’s Notes

112B - Mixed Case of Hoyt’s Favorite White
Burgundies
• 3 bottles (750ml) of Domaine Comtesse Bernard de Chérisey, PulignyMontrachet, Les Chalumeaux, 1er Cru 2009
o “This almost magical, lost-in-time corner of the world boasts a unique
microclimate, with a slightly different average temperature, exposition and
soil than the rest of Burgundy. Laurent Martelet creates the most haunting
masterpieces that emerge from this terroir. Laurent bottles imported wines
under the Comtesse Bernard de Chérisey label named in honor of his wife
Hélène’s mother, who inherited their vines and passed them on to Hélène,
who works side by side with Laurent. Laurent’s Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru
Les Chalumeaux is from vines just below Blagny. If you were a Chardonnay
vine it wouldn’t be a bad place to put down your roots. The wine is loaded
with white limestone and gives a very fine, intensely focused white
Burgundy, très Puligny, screaming with minerality.” – Winemaker’s Notes
• 5 bottles (750ml) of Domaine Comtesse Bernard de Chérisey, MeursaultBlagny, La Genelotte, 1er Cru 2009
o “The de Chérisey Meursault-Blagny 1er Cru La Genelotte is from a vineyard
just north of Blagny, on the Meursault side of course, high on the slope
above the village. The wine is a powerful, classic, long-lived Meursault. The
Genelotte vineyard is also a monopole, meaning Laurent and Hélène are sole
proprietors.” – Winemaker’s Notes
• 4 bottles (750ml) of Domaine Robert-Denogent, Macon-Solutre, Close des
Bertillonnes, Monopole 2009
o “A monopole vineyard from a humble appellation that always seems to
punch well above its weight. Zingy and fresh on the nose with lots of bright
zesty fruit.” – Winemaker’s Notes

114 – Martinelli’s Zinfandel
Martinelli sets the standard for California Zinfandel. All of these Zins are 93+
Rated, and are sure to add some “color” to your cellar.
• 2 bottles (750ml) of Martinelli Jackass Hill Zinfandel 2004
o “...showed explosive, urgent raspberry fruit lifted by black pepper, and
became increasingly peppery and bright. Really stains the finish with fruit.” Stephen Tanzer (96 pts IWC)
• 2 bottles (750ml) of Martinelli Jackass Hill Zinfandel 2005
•
o “Bright ruby. Incredibly perfumed aromas of floral-accented blackberry and
boysenberry, a hint of smoky bacon and patchouli. Sweet and lush, with
deeply concentrated dark berry flavors and outstanding concentration.
There’s surprisingly fresh minerality here, giving energy and focus to the
remarkably concentrated, jammy fruit. These vines are 107 years old and the
vineyard is planted on a 60-degree slope, making re-planting here a literally
illegal undertaking.” - Stephen Tanzer (94 pts IWC)
1 bottle (750ml) of Martinelli Jackass Vineyard Zinfandel 2005
o “This tastes like a Zinfandel made by Henri Bonneau in Chateauneuf du
Pape. Sweet kirsch liqueur intermixed with roasted herbs, pepper, spice box,
and gamey aged beef notes all combine for a wine with great fruit, huge
glycerin and volume, as one might suspect from the alcohol level, but no
sense of heat. This is a ripe, heady, individualistic/singular style of wine that
you either love or hate. I simply love it.” - Robert Parker (95 pts RP)
• 3 bottles (750ml) of Martinelli Jackass Vineyard Zinfandel 2004
o “The 2004 Zinfandel Jackass Vineyard (690 cases) offers copious quantities
of espresso roast, overripe figs, coffee, cola, strawberry and cherry jam, a
hint of mincemeat and spice box, and a monstrously rich, full-bodied palate
that just oozes fruit, glycerin, and alcohol. This wine should drink well for
up to a decade.” - The Wine Bank (93 pts RP)
• 2 bottles (750ml) of Martinelli Jackass Vineyard Zinfandel 2007
o “From a steep hillside vineyard, the 2007 Zinfandel Jackass Vineyard reveals
enormous quantities of pepper, fruitcake, mincemeat, roasted herbs, black
and red fruits, a tremendous smokiness, and an unctuous texture with
amazing viscosity as well as richness. There are slightly fewer than 400
cases of this beauty...” - Robert Parker (95 pts RP)
• 1 bottle (750ml) of Martinelli “Giuseppe and Luisa” Zinfandel 2007
o “The dark ruby/purple-tinged 2007 Zinfandel Giuseppe & Luisa offers sweet
aromas of plums, roasted meats, pepper, kirsch, roasted herbs, and figs. [A]
deep, dense, full-bodied effort is a singular, hedonistic style of Zinfandel.” Robert Parker (93 pts RP)
• 1 bottle (750ml) of Martinelli Jackass Hill Zinfandel 2003
o “The 2003 Zinfandel Jackass Vineyard (554 cases at 16.5% alcohol) has a
classic dark plum/purple color, a huge nose of dates, figs, brandy-macerated
blueberries, blackberries, soy, smoke, and barbecue spice. A full-bodied,
exotic, opulent wine and a total hedonistic and intellectual turn-on.” - Robert
Parker (95 pts RP)

Includes 1 double magnum (3L) each of:
• Silver Oak Cellars Alexander Valley Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon 2007
o “The 2007 Silver Oak Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon is a profound,
fruit-driven wine from a great California vintage. It has a dark ruby color
with a purple edge and an inviting nose of ripe black plum, blackberry,
baking spices and soy sauce. On the palate, the wine is rich and full,
reminiscent of the flavors of a berry cobbler. It has a long, fruity finish with
fine grained tannins, and is a testament to exquisite ripeness...” Winemaker’s Notes
• Twomey Cellars Merlot 2007
o “The 2007 Twomey Merlot is a beautiful example of what this noble variety
can achieve in an excellent vintage: suppleness, complexity and great
expression of berry fruit. It has a dark ruby color and a nose of fresh, ripe
black cherry and blackberry, dark chocolate and what the French call
“torifaction,” the alluring smell of roasting coffee. On the palate, it has an
attack full of explosive fruit and violets prolonged by plenty of umami, the
savory fifth taste. It has a long finish echoing berry fruit and chocolate and
grainy well-integrated tannins that promise excellent cellaring potential.” Winemaker’s Notes
• Silver Oak “Alexander Valley” Cabernet Sauvignon 2001
o “The 2001 Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignons reveals a saturated
ruby/purple color in addition to a lusty, sweet perfume of cassis, spice box,

to this.” - JS, Wine Spectator
• Château Lynch-Bages 2006
o “Fully saturated bright ruby. ...revealing cool blackberry and cassis aromas
with extended aeration, complicated by notes of cola, flowers, red cherry and
sweet spices. Then soft, round and ripe in the mouth, with persistent flavors
of black cherry, cassis and cinnamon. A very serious wine offering
impressive definition and very good balance, turning almost austere at the
back, but with a pretty, pristine quality to its repeating floral and black fruit
notes. Finishes with smooth, building tannins...One of the best vintage for

120 - Château Palmer Dinner for 10 –
DUTCH AUCTION
Château Palmer is regarded by wine lovers all over the world as one of the best
estates in the Margaux appellation of Bordeaux. “Vintage after vintage, the wines
of Château Palmer express our vision of an exceptional wine,” says Thomas
Duroux, CEO of Château Palmer. “We believe Palmer is born of a mysterious
trilogy: terroir, history, memory. All of our efforts are concentrated on bringing this
unique combination to life vintage after vintage.” www.chateau-palmer.com
Executive Chef, David Miller of 360 Bistro, will prepare the dinner. David worked
as an Executive Chef for major hospitality companies including the Marriott
Resorts, Syrah International, and The Peninsula Inn & Spa, where he achieved a
remarkable feat of earning the status as one of the Top Hundred Rated Restaurant in
America by Zagat. David will pair his dinner menu with the following list of wines:
• Palmer Blanc - Usually served exclusively at the Château, but occasionally
shared with discriminating palates abroad, this wine evokes the very limited
quantities of white wine produced at Palmer in the 1920s and 30s.
• Château Palmer 1959, 1970, 1982, 1985, 1989, 1990, 2000 and 2005 are some
of the greatest vintages produced by Château Palmer. Each one of them is the
joy of discriminating collectors. All of them reveal Château Palmer’s superb
terroir, as well as the silkiness and refinement of its wines.
o 1959 was a hot, dry year that produced powerful, full-bodied wines. They
are rich and opulent in style, with intense color and low acidity. A truly
outstanding vintage and the first to be qualified as “vintage of the century.”
o 1970 enjoyed near perfect conditions resulting in a truly remarkable
vintage, often considered to be one of the greatest years in Margaux. The
wines are rich, fruity and concentrated with good balance. Over the years,
they have acquired depth and show remarkable length and finesse.
o 1982 was undoubtedly a great vintage and is often considered one of
Bordeaux’s finest. With exceptionally good climatic conditions all through
the year, the harvest was early and generous. The resulting wines are soft,
silky and packed with fruit.
o 1985 was a generous and excellent vintage. It produced a classic
expression of Bordeaux’s best terroirs and reveals truly exceptional qualities
at Palmer. The wines are often compared to those of 1953 in terms of their
great balance, harmony, finesse and elegance.
o 1989 was a hot year that produced the earliest vintage of the century. The
wines are of exceptional quality, similar, if not superior to the 1982s. The
1989s are powerful, rich and full-bodied yet supple.
o 1990 enjoyed fine and warm weather throughout the year. August was
marked by tropical heat unprecedented since 1947, 1949 and 1982. The wine
is concentrated and characterized by ripe fruit aromas and supple tannins.
o 2000 experienced drought conditions through summer and right up to
harvest time. The quality of the fruit, along with immensely ripe tannins and
good acidity have produced a truly great Margaux with a long life
expectancy.
o 2005: No one in France can remember drought conditions of such
magnitude over such a long period from June to September (57% less
rainfall than usual). The wine is explosive with great complexity, opulence
and structure.
This is a highly exclusive wine dinner, as Thomas Duroux will be attending to
share his wines with the winning bidders. Bid it to win it!

125 – Six California Classics in Large Formats
• 1 magnum (1.5L) of Joseph Phelps Vineyards Insignia 2008
o “The 2008 Insignia boasts aromatic layers of dark roasted coffee and
graphite. The seductive mouth-feel has excellent length, intensely ripe black
fruit, minerality and creaminess that tie together seamlessly on the palate.” Winemaker’s Notes
• 1 magnum (1.5L) of Joseph Phelps Vineyards Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon
2008
o “The 2008 Cabernet Sauvignon is an impressive version. The 2008’s dense
ruby/purple color is followed by an attractive bouquet of crème de cassis
and charcoal. Revealing full-bodied richness and lots of depth, it is one of
the finest regular Cabernet Sauvignons Phelps has made in many years.
The tannins have sweetened over the last year and this impressively
endowed effort, while approachable now, should age [well].” - Robert
Parker (90 pts WA)
• 1 magnum (1.5L) of Herb Lamb Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon 2009
o “...a more structured vintage than some, not as plump and fruit driven, but
producing a more linear and focused wine. This wine has a lovely bouquet
with a balance that is perfect for the weight of the wine. The nose is
seamless, expressive and pretty, showing red fruits and a rich blueberry
reduction. In the mouth you sense a richness of fig, ripe plum, deep black
cherry and blackberry. You can feel the finesse and elegance on the palate
that highlights the sweet red fruit flavors of cherry, currant, raspberry and red
licorice. There are spicy, toasted oak flavors with silky, elegant tannins
which are muted in the background, as an extra element giving balance to
the wine.” - Winemaker Mike Trujillo’s Notes
• 1 double magnum (3L) of Spottswoode Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 1989
o “This has ripe plum and black cherry flavors with light earthy tones.” Mike Richardson
• 1 magnum (1.5L) of Spottswoode Winery Cabernet Sauvignon 2009
o “Inviting aromas of blackberry syrup, ripe cherries, dried wild blueberries,
and pipe tobacco intermixed with rich dark chocolate. The vintage
showcases a wonderful balance of acidity, vibrancy, and powdery tannins
that float on the palate with flavors of sweet vanilla, hints of molasses and
baking spices. A huge wine bursting with class and personality.” - Wine
Advocate (96+ pts WA)
• 1 magnum (1.5L) of Chimney Rock Stag’s Leap Cabernet Sauvignon
o Chimney Rock Winery was established in 1980 with the goal of creating
wines that would compete against the best of Bordeaux. Today that goal is
pursued with renewed passion by wine-industry pioneer Anthony J. Terlato
and his sons, Bill and John.

135 - Burgundy Wine Tour for 6
Experience the TRUE Burgundy — the way Burgundians do.
The real Burgundy is more than the famous vineyards. And it is more than the
thousand years of tradition. It is more than world-class wine and food. The real
Burgundy is the people living these traditions and tending those vineyards.
But how can you get to meet these people and experience their lifestyle? Simply
put, most will never get that opportunity.
But YOU can. You can go to Burgundy like an insider on this exclusive l'Eté du
Vin Wine Tour.
Imagine being invited into a famous winemaker’s home for dinner. Tasting wines
dating back to the 90?s and 80’s and 70’s from their private cellars.
Imagine going to small markets and picking the freshest and most appealing food
in the morning and then going to a winemaker’s home and having a world-class
chef teach you how to prepare your hand-selected meal. Experience a winemaker
and sommelier perfectly pair wines to the food.
Imagine going into exclusive vineyards and private cellars that most people can
only dream about experiencing.
This l'Eté du Vin’s Wine Tour to Burgundy, July 7-13, 2013 has been crafted by
“The Burgundy Wine Man” Steve Pignatiello and reveals why he is so passionate
about the region. This trip is unlike any other. There are culinary trips and there
are wine trips. But no other trip combines the intimacy and access of Steve’s
friendships with the creativity and genius of a master chef.
This week in Burgundy is a once-in-a-lifetime experience that cannot be duplicated
at any price. It’s guaranteed to be an eye-opening experience that will change food
and wine for you forever. It’s a personal adventure, limited to 6 people per trip, and
is customized for you by l'Eté du Vin Wine Tours and Steve Pignatiello. A portion
of your trip fees will go directly to support the fight against cancer.
Trip Details
The trip is strictly limited to 6 people only. It is 7 days and 6 nights. Travelers will
be picked up in Paris, either at the airport or at a hotel. All transfers will be
provided, including the trip back to Paris. Travelers are welcomed to add on their
own trip extensions either before or after the trip.
In Burgundy, we will stay at Hotel Le Cep. It’s the best. We will visit some of the
“must-see” locations in Burgundy such as the Château Clos de Vougeot and the
Hospices de Beaune.
The key to this trip is the ACCESS to the winemakers and their families as well as
their homes and cellars. Once or twice a day, we will visit their homes where they
will welcome us in, like family. They will cook for us and share their personal
wines from their cellars. It will be very intimate, very relaxed and very special. We
will also go to local restaurants with the winemakers.
The trip includes just about everything, except airfare. This is a trip for people who
like great food, who want to eat it paired with world-class wines direct from the
winemaker cellars, and who truly want to connect with the Burgundians on a personal
level. Join us on a once-in-a-lifetime l'Eté du Vin Wine Tour with Steve Pignatiello.
About wine tour leader, Steve Pignatiello
Certified sommelier Steve Pignatiello first traveled to France as a Dartmouth
College student in 1979. Over the past 28 years, he has gained a comprehensive
knowledge of the country. His passion, however, centers on the world-famous
wine region called “La Bourgogne” (Burgundy). Steve says, “Burgundy is a way
of life. It’s a tiny region where the best wines are made by mom-and-pop
operations, not large corporations.”
These wines are so special and so good because the families have total control
over the winemaking process from start to finish. As one winemaker says, “I put
my heart in every bottle of wine.” Each family owns the vines and personally
works in the vineyards, pruning the vines, hand-picking and sorting the grapes,
and overseeing the winemaking process in its entirety.
Over the years, Steve has had the good fortune to become friends with some of
these highly respected winemakers. His passion for and first-hand knowledge of
their wines have earned him the nickname “The Burgundy Wine Man.” In
recognition of his contributions to the promotion of Burgundy wines – as well as
his close, personal ties with many of the region’s top winemakers – Steve was
inducted into the prestigious Confrérie des Chevaliers du Tastevin at the historic
Château du Clos de Vougeot. Furthermore, Steve is privileged to serve as the Vice
Conseiller Gastronomique for the Chaîne des Rôtisseurs.
Steve has been honored as the Burgundy authority at the annual Food and Wine
Classic at the Cloister on Sea Island, Georgia, as well as at the annual Wine and
Food Festival at The Grove Park Inn Resort & Spa in Asheville, North Carolina.
He served as sommelier for the kickoff dinner at the 2001 PGA Championship and
was featured in an article in Travel and Leisure Golf magazine coinciding with the
Masters Golf Tournament in April 2003. He was also selected to present Burgundy
at Disney’s Epcot International Food and Wine Festival in 2006 and again in 2007.
“Many wine lovers in the U.S. shy away from Burgundy because of the staggering
array of vineyards and winemakers,” Steve says. “So while many people in our
country know a lot about wine, if they have one area of weakness, it’s usually
Burgundy.”

140A - Raise Your Paddle
It is at times like these that the people whom l’Eté du Vin benefit need our help
the most. We do not ask this money of you for bragging rights or for ego. Not for
greed or professional gain. We ask because l’Eté du Vin has committed itself to the
fight against cancer and intends to continue that fight until future generations do
not have to worry about losing their fathers, mothers, brothers, sisters, wives,
husbands and friends to this ever-present disease.
For thirty-three years, l’Eté du Vin has been dedicated to the fight against cancer
and has maintained our reputation as one of the finest charity wine events in the
country. In that time we have had the ultimate privilege of forming relationships
with some of the greatest, most generous people on earth as well as raising over
$16 million for organizations whose purpose is directly related to the treatment,
patient care and eradication of cancer.
Unfortunately it is becoming increasingly rare to find a person that has not been
touched by cancer in some way. But the programs of the Leukemia & Lymphoma
Society, Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center, The Hope Lodge, Camp Horizon, The
American Cancer Society, St. Thomas Cancer Network, The Minnie Pearl Cancer
Foundation, Williamson Medical Center Foundation, Make-A-Wish® Foundation
Middle Tennessee, and Gilda’s Club are exceeding even the highest national
expectations and creating many happy endings. This Lot is one that everyone can
afford to bid on, proudly take home in your hearts, and feel good about for a long
time. And like a great glass of wine, this Lot will overwhelm your senses, excite
you, warm you from your heart to your toes, and deliver an exceptional finish.
Please stand and raise your paddle to donate $250 to fund the fight
against cancer. The auctioneer will explain the details. Remember why we are
here, those that cannot be here, and know, together we will make a difference.

144 - Harlan Estate 2004
Harlan Estate is a California treasure that doesn’t require a flowery, verbose
introduction. Harlan Estate, referred to as “California ‘grand cru’” by Stephen
Tanzer is well known to wine collectors and novices alike. Harlan Estate could be
“the single most profound red wine made not just in California, but in the world”
according to Robert Parker. How could you go wrong with Harlan? These wines
are all still in their original tissue and wooden case.
• 3 bottles (750ml) of Harlan Estate Cabernet Blend 2004
o “The 2004 Harlan Estate is probably the most precocious and accessible
Harlan Estate that this perfectionist team has made. Already compelling, the
wine has notes of roasted coffee, charcoal, blackberry, spring flowers, and
some background sweet, toasty notes. Dense, fleshy, exuberant, even
flamboyant…the wine is sensationally well-endowed, long, and rich – a tour
de force in winemaking. They can do no wrong at Harlan…making wines of
irrefutable world-class quality.” - Robert Parker (98 pts RP)

“Yet 1982 was not just great but historic. One could easily make the case that the
modern age of wine began with the 1982 vintage, or at least with the reception of
the ‘82s. The wines themselves represent the end of the old era.
The ‘82 vintage is most famously associated with the rise of the American critic
Robert M. Parker Jr., who was still working as a lawyer while in his spare time
producing a newsletter, The Wine Advocate. The story of the vintage is often told
as if Mr. Parker stood alone to exalt it against a legion of naysayers, but the fact is
that with a few exceptions, most critics at the time acclaimed the wines. The
difference was in how Mr. Parker praised them.
Not for Mr. Parker was the cautious hedging and equivocating of the typical wine
critic. His praise was clear, certain and unqualified, and he urged his readers to
buy all they could in wine futures, the Bordeaux system in which you pay now for
wine that will be delivered in a year or two, gambling that prices will go up and
availability down. The result was feverish excitement and a frenzied market that
reached beyond professionals and connoisseurs to a new group of buyers in it for
the curiosity, status and investment possibilities.
Simultaneously, the Bordeaux business itself was changing. Back then, many
leading chateaux were still owned by families rather than by the corporations and
wealthy individuals who dominate Bordeaux today. The business was far less
glorified than it is now, and after several difficult decades and a sharp increase in
French inheritance taxes, many families sold off their holdings.
New ownership and the brisk sales of the ‘82s brought an infusion of cash into
Bordeaux, inaugurating an evolution over the next 20 years into the modern
Bordeaux of today. The 1982 Bordeaux were rich, ripe, opulent wines, reflecting
the year’s long, hot and dry growing season. The popularity of the wines
understandably gave producers an incentive to want to make similar wines in the
future, which, beyond hoping for a similarly ideal year, required altering their
methods.
In a sense, 1982 validated what Bordeaux enologists like Émile Peynaud had long
been preaching. For years, he had recommended to Bordeaux producers that they
should not harvest grapes early to prevent rot but allow the grapes to ripen fully.
He urged winemakers to select only their best grapes for their wines, a difficult
notion for many to accept at a time when quantity was often more important than
quality. In fact, yields in ‘82 were high. They would have to come down if
growers wanted to achieve better wines more consistently, even in less-thanperfect years.
Rather than put all their grapes into one wine, Dr. Peynaud urged wineries to
create less expensive labels for grapes that were less than the best. In 1982 few
chateaux had second labels. Now it’s standard procedure. In myriad other ways
over the next 20 years, Bordeaux chateaux transformed their viticulture and
production methods, adding technology, gaining control over nature, reducing the
element of seasonal chance. Global warming made it easier for growers, or at least
less difficult, to pursue the lush style of ‘82.” Article by Eric Asimov. Published
March 20, 2012.

Hoc, La Toque, Bouchon, and Redd. The group will also take a day and Ferry to
San Francisco to visit the Farmers Market and participate in a private Barrel
Blending session. Who knows what a night in San Francisco will bring or what
other fantastic opportunities will avail themselves to JJ and George Seiters and

157 - Hospices de Beaune
Hospices de Beaune has one of the most fascinating histories in the wine world.
These wines are primarily sold to wine lovers en primeur (as futures) from the
Hospices de Beaune estate at the auction that takes place every year on the 3rd
Sunday of November. The proceeds go to help the local hospital, which has always
been supported by private benefactors and wine sales. Rarely do these wines make
an appearance at USA auctions, and we are privileged to have the support of
Kobrand Fine Wine & Spirits to bring these valuable wines to l’Eté du Vin.
1 double magnum (3L) each of:
• Hospices de Beaune Mazis-Chambertin Madeleine Collignon Red Wine 1999
o This magnificent plot of Grand Cru vineyard was donated by Jean Collignon
in 1976, and named in memory of his mother. The vines lay at the heart of
the hillside, on the same contours as its immediate neighbor, Chambertin
Clos de Bèze. More than two thirds of this Cuvée come from vines planted
in 1947. This no doubt contributes significantly to the remarkable fruit
density and structure of the wine, to its silky tannins and to its length of
aftertaste, which are consistently exceptional.
• Hospices de Beaune Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru Cuvée François de Salins
White Wine 2002
o The name of Salins is naturally associated with Guigone, the cofounder of
the Hospices de Beaune. She had many generous benefactor descendants, of
whom François de Salins was one. He was the Priest and Canon of the
Collegiate church of Notre Dame de Beaune, and in 1745 left his Domaine
of vines in Savigny and Aloxe to the Hôtel-Dieu. These vines face south
and southwest. They are situated in the historic lieu-dit Le Charlemagne,
running uphill from the narrow road that links Pernand with Aloxe- Corton.
58% of the vines date from a planting in 1944, with 27% from 1981, the
balance from 1998.

158 - California Big Boys
There’s nothing quite like seeing a row of magnums and double magnums in your
cellar to make you feel like you have it all, and you will with this lot! California’s
quintessential vineyards are here in force with heady Cabernet Sauvignon.
• 3 magnums (1.5L) of Beaulieu Vineyard BV “Reserve” Cabernet Sauvignon 1980
o “This wine is nearly opaque black-ruby with purple highlights. The aromas
show dark fruits, licorice, black pepper and minerals, with Rutherford
accents of black olive, peppercorn and dark cherry. Full-bodied in texture,
this wine has pronounced, dense and concentrated flavors of black currant,
anise, sweet vanilla and distinctive minerality. The rich tannins are
balanced by medium acidity providing freshness.” - Winemaker’s Notes
• 1 magnum (1.5L) of Simi Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon 2002, signed by
winemaker
o “Bursts of rich dark fruit and cassis add complexity to this full bodied,
structured wine. Hints of cocoa are intertwined on the long, rich finish of
this age-worthy Cabernet Sauvignon.” - Winemaker’s Notes
• 1 double magnum (3L) of Pride Mountain Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon
2009, signed
o “Notes of blackberry, ripe plum, black tea, cassis and dark chocolate create
an intriguing aromatic interplay, while the opaque, blue-black color,
voluptuous mouthfeel and natural acidity balance the wine’s mountain
tannins, creating a wine with no sharp edges.” - Winemaker’s Notes

161B – O’More College of Design Custom
Cowboy Hat
This year, l’Eté du Vin has partnered with the renowned and historic O’More
College of Design to create a special auction item. With our theme l’Eté du Vin

time rodeo and the Steeplechase have put the county on all the tourism maps in
Tennessee.
We asked ten design students to bejewel and bedeck cowboy hats that will face a
jury of community leaders to determine the winner. The winning student receives a
cash prize of $250 and the knowledge that they have participated in the oldest
wine auction in the United States where the proceeds make a difference.
O'More College of Design “provides a quality art and design education that
emphasizes individual attention. They promote partnership with the local, regional,

37-acre vineyard includes some of the appellation’s oldest vines.” Winemaker’s Notes
• Château Cos d’Estournel 2001

JS, Wine Spectator (91 pts WS)
• Château Léoville Barton 2002

impressively long, with substantial but fine tannins. Impeccably balanced
wine.” - Stephen Tanzer (90-92 pts IWC)

165 - Torbreck “The Factor” Shiraz 2004
Torbreck Vintners is synonymous with quality Australian wine. “The Factor” is no

with “The Factor” as the name for his prized Shiraz, David Powell replied, “The
manager on a highland estate is referred to as The Factor. Having spent two years
in predominantly older oak, this wine manages to express true Barossa Shiraz
character.”
• 4 double magnums (3L) of Torbreck “The Factor” Shiraz, Barossa Valley,
Australia, 2004

168 - Henri Boillot Corton Charlemagne 2002
The Boillots have been farming in Burgundy since 1855. If our math and
genealogy is correct that makes Henri the 5th generation of his clan to be a
vigneron in the Côte d’Or. Henri is also a stickler for quality. After making wine at
his family’s property (Domaine Jean Boillot) for more than a decade he quit in
1984 to launch his own negociant business. Not satisfied with the house style of
his father and grandfather (light and delicate), he left to produce more
concentrated and powerful Pinots and Chardonnays. For his efforts he received
unbridled hurrahs and huzzahs from the trade and press. Formerly Domaine Jean
Boillot, Henri Boillot wines changed the name of the winery in order to avoid
confusion with his brother’s property, Jean-Marc Boillot.
The quality? Well, across the board Boillot’s bottlings are pure, rich, accurate,
powerful and brilliant. As Robert Parker neatly stated, “As a group these wines
showed vibrancy, excellent acidity, genuine vineyard character, and they tasted
damn good too! Differences between Meursaults from Charmes and Genevrieres
were obvious. It was much the same for the Pulignys and the Grand Crus. In every
case, the Boillot wines served as excellent representatives of the fundamental
character one has come to expect from these vineyards.”
• 12 bottles (750ml) of Henri Boillot Corton Charlemagne Grand Cru, Cote de
Beaune, France 2002
o “This stands in sharp contrast to the expressiveness of the Montrachet and
Bâtard as the nose is backward, tight and closed with only hints of elegantly
pure green apple and limestone notes of crystalline purity that lead to direct,
frank, muscular and linear full-bodied flavors underpinned by superb
minerality and very firm acidity. This too is classically proportioned and
structured with a somewhat austere but remarkably intense finish of
awesome length. Wonderful juice.” - Allen Meadows, Burghound (94 pts

o “This dark ruby wine has overtones of black cherry, currant and blackberry,
undertones of chocolate, coffee and pepper, and accents of vanilla and cedar
from French oak barrels. Concentrated yet supple tannins, crisp acidity,
lingering finish. Balanced structure, in classic Bordeaux style. Easily the best

176 - Prodigious Cabernet Sauvignon – Abreu
The names Abreu and Madrona can only fill your mind with thoughts of stunning
Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon. www.abreuvineyards.com
• 6 bottles (750ml) of Abreu Madrona Ranch Cabernet Sauvignon 2000
o “A candidate for wine of the vintage, the gorgeous 2000 Cabernet Sauvignon
Madrona Ranch (93% Cabernet Sauvignon and the rest Cabernet Franc and
Petit Verdot) boasts an inky/purple color as well as a sumptuous perfume of
violets, blackberries, blueberries, and coffee offered in a medium to fullbodied, supple-textured, accessible style. Unlike Abreu’s biggest vintages,
the 2000 is already delicious, and promises to evolve for 12-15 years.” Robert Parker (92 pts RP)

177 - White Burgundies from Pam & Steve
Taylor’s Cellar
Enjoy the fruits of Pam and Steve Taylor’s cellar; their favorite French
Chardonnays aged to perfection. 3 bottles (750ml) each of:
• Labouré-Roi Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru, Burgundy, France 2001
o “Gorgeous midpalate concentration...what incredible intensity of fruit,
lemon, honey and, yes, toasted oak--but think of hot croissants. Richly
endowed and powerful, full-bodied white Burgundy. A breakthrough for
Labouré-Roi. 330 cases made.” - PM, Wine Spectator (92 pts WS)
• Leroy Meursault Les Perrières 1er Cru, Burgundy, France 2001
• Étienne Sauzet Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru, Burgundy, France 2003
o “A much more reserved nose featuring straw, pear and high-toned menthol
notes merges seamlessly into the rich, fat and impressively concentrated
flavors that deliver serious volume and power, culminating in flat out terrific
length...In a word, terrific.” - Allen Meadows, Burghound (93 pts BH)
• Raveneau Chablis 1er Butteaux 2006
o “An almost invisible touch of wood frames more reserved but fresher green
and yellow fruit aromas that also offer up a subtle touch of spice that
complements the round and wonderfully intense flavors that ooze that lovely
sense of underlying tension as well as plenty of oyster shell character on the
citrus-infused and very dry palate staining finish. A wine of power and
finesse...” - Allen Meadows, Burghound (92 pts BH)

178 - Taylor Fladgate Port
Established over three centuries ago in 1692, Taylor’s is one of the oldest of the
founding Port houses. It is dedicated entirely to the production of Port wine and in
particular to its finest styles. Above all, Taylor’s is regarded as the benchmark for
Vintage Port. Noted for their elegance and poise as well as for their restrained
power and longevity, Taylor’s Vintage Ports are blended from the finest wines of
the firm’s own quintas or estates. Today we have five of their Vintage Ports for
Auction, courtesy of Kobrand Fine Wine & Spirits.
1 bottle (750ml) each of Taylor Fladgate Vintage Port:
• 1994
o “In a word, superb. It’s full-bodied, moderately sweet and incredibly tannic,
but there’s amazing finesse and refinement to the texture, not to mention
fabulous, concentrated aromas of raspberries, violets and other flowers.
Perhaps the greatest Taylor ever, it’s better than either the ‘92 or the ‘70,
though it’s very like the ‘70 in structure..” - Wine Spectator (100 pts WS)
• 2000
o “Bright deep ruby. Brooding, complex aromas of cassis, minerals, graphite,
licorice and damp earth; distinct hints of surmaturite. Dense, chewy and
powerful, with a saline impression of extract. At once strong and seamless,
with penetrating, youthfully primary black fruit flavors that really expand
and reverberate in the mouth and on the very long, gripping finish.
Exhilarating late note of dark chocolate.” - Stephen Tanzer (95 pts IWC)
• 2003
o “Lovely aromas of currants, blackberries and licorice. Full-bodied, with
medium sweetness and layers of ripe, round, velvety tannins. Flavorful
finish. More round and refined than from barrel. 13,000 cases made.” - JS,
Wine Spectator (94 pts WS)
• 2007
o “A classic baby Vintage Port nose of blackberry, currant and a little bit of
green lemon leaf. Full-bodied and medium sweet. There’s a solid core of ripe
fruit and powerful tannins, with grip. The real deal.” - Wine Spectator (97
pts WS)
• 2009
o “Intensely fruity and dripping with luscious dark cherry, blackberry and
blueberry flavors, leading to touches of sandalwood. Medium-grained
tannins carry through to the lush, spice- and chocolate-filled finish. This
shows fine grip and balance, with a very modern feel. 9,000 cases made.” Wine Spectator (94 pts WS)
