Autumn 2015 - Fayette Friends of Animals
Fayette Friends of Animals Autumn 2015 This newsletter is dedicated to all of you!!! Thank you for everything you do!! Featured Gem Hello everyone, My name is Rocco. I am staying right now at Fayette Friends of Animals until my forever family comes along. I am older than most shelter dogs, around 8 years old. That doesn't mean I can't learn new tricks though! Just the other day I learned how to give paw! You would think that we older fellows just sit around and do nothing for the day but I still have a higher than normal senior energy level. I love to play tug-o-war, fetch, and chase, but not the puppy rough stuff, the senior version of those games. I seem to get along well with other dogs, so if you already have a dog at home we would need to meet first I am very lovable for an older man. Please come give me a chance. I'll be waiting to meet you! Love, Rocco Rocco is being sponsored by Dianne Bugosh Featured Gem Meow! My name is Adele. I think I am the most beautiful calico feline. I was in a foster home for a while because I was having eye problems and my foster mom could give me medicine when it was needed, but now that my eye is all better and I am back at the shelter. I am in the big room with the other cats so I do get along with them, but I don't enjoy being in here. I like to have my own space. At first humans made me a bit nervous but I am getting better with them. I do like to be scratched on my head and face, and will knead and purr when you scratch me. I would even let my foster mom's daughter rub my belly. Even though I like attention, I do not like to be picked up and held. That's a no-no for right now. Maybe things would change after a bit. I like to lounge around and one of my favorite things to do was to lay in the cat hammock in front of the window and watch the world go by. My foster mom said that I was a good cat and I always used my litter box. I hope you come soon to see me. I really do want my own family and home. Love, Adele Animal Friends of Pittsburgh will once again be coming to our shelter with their mobile unit on September 29th for a low cost spay and neuter clinic. This clinic is for CATS ONLY. She is a fabulous declawed feline that is residing at our shelter. She had a family once, but to know fault of her own ,she was surrendered to the shelter. She has been with us for some time now. Since she is declawed, she can’t be with the other cats because they pick on her. She is very sweet and lovable. She enjoys talking with you when you come to spend time with her. Come meet Miss Nemo. She will just melt your heart. UPDATE: Our 6 year old, Lydia, one of our long term residents of FFOA, has been adopted. She had been with us for 2 1/2 years and this is the first home for her. Her wonderful new mom came numerous times to be with her and to gain her trust. The staff said that it looked like Lydia was smiling when she was sitting in the car and waiting to leave. We are wishing Lydia and her mom a life of good wishes. MORE GREAT NEWS: Cutsie, our beautiful calico cat, that had been with us since Nov. 2013, has been adopted. These 2 wonderful girls and their mom, adopted Cutsie and they also adopted Dustin, a 7 month old, so Cutsie won’t be alone in her new home. We are so happy for all of you!! The Nemacolin Walk/Paws for Life 5K was held June 6, 2015, at Nemacolin Woodlands in Farmington, PA. Participants of all ages enjoyed the beautiful scenery while participating in the vent. Awards were given to each winner of each age category. The main recipient of the funds raised was the Westmoreland and Fayette County Animal Response Team. They had their trailers at the event for everyone to see what they offer. They are currently in the process of providing mouth -to-snout resuscitation masks for all EMS vehicles in both counties. Funds generated by the walk will assist in their endeavor. The Confluence Volunteer Fire Company and Fayette Friends of Animals were additional beneficiaries. This is an annual event provided by Woodlands Animal Care Center and Wooflands Pet Resort and Spa and is one you don't want to miss. A big thank you to Lady Luck Casino Nemacolin for doing the donation drive for us! The items collected will be put to good use! My husband and I would like to thank all the bikers who supported the Paint Room's 6th Annual Bike Run. The run was held on June 20th. We usually have 65 to 75 bikes in attendance but the weather didn't cooperate very well with us this year. We were however, extremely grateful to the 40 courageous bikers who came in their rain gear to support this wonderful cause and to honor the memories of both Wanda Bigam and Dave Bigam. We would also like to thank the many wonderful businesses who sponsored the run with generous monetary donations. We also want to thank the Paint Room owners Christi and Jimmy Bigam and Matt Bigam for hosting the run again this year. We were again able to make a profit for Fayette Friends of Animals, our county's only no kill shelter. I also want to thank FFOA for taking in and finding wonderful homes for the many furry orphans from our community. FFOA solely depends on fundraisers and donations to keep their shelter running. When you are looking for your next pet, please always choose to adopt. Thank you, Lisa and Denny Dolan A big shout out to Joe Berish and Jody, from Lee’s Plumbing and Excavating, Inc., for getting 10 tons of pea gravel to our shelter. The smaller gravel is so much better for the dogs’ paws. The dogs love you for helping them. These fabulous felines are Teddy and Tigger, two brothers that came in to the shelter together. This wonderful adopter came to the shelter looking to adopt just one cat, but ended up adopting both of them. Thank you for allowing these two brothers to grow old together with you in their forever home. Hello there my name is Major. Two of my shelter mommies found me in the back of the shelter in a kennel one morning. I was scared, cold and confused of why I had been dumped off. I have a micro chip and the staff was so happy thinking that I was just lost and a nice person must have dropped me off. Then it was found out that I was micro chipped and neutered by my first owner but the person that they rehomed me to in October 2013 changed their mind and didn't want me anymore. I'm not a bad dog I have a lot of confidence and I'm loyal. to my new shelter family. I'm still a puppy so I chew and have energy! I celebrated my first birthday March 3, 2014. I know basic commands and learn quickly. I could be your new forever best friend! Oh another plus is I came from a home with children . I have been at the shelter for a very long time now, so please come adopt me and give me a home of my own. Woof: My name is Trent and I am 7 years young. I have been adopted twice and returned both times because of my family's circumstances so now I sit at the shelter, and wait day in and day out for another family to come along and adopt me, and this time I am hoping that it will be forever. I am a great dog, very mellow, loving, and loyal. One of my favorite things to do is go for a walk. When I see Shawn, a volunteer at the shelter, my heart skips a beat. I just love her. I know I am one of her favorite dogs and she is going to take me for one of my long walks. She took me for one today, and then I got a new photo taken while I was out, so I can be posted on FB in hopes of getting a family. I hope you like my photo. As you can see I am a bit gray but that just adds character. A little more about me: I like children, toys, beds, long walks and baths. After being in a shelter with all of these other animals, I would really prefer a home of my own with no other dogs or cats. If you would adopt me I would always be so happy and be such a good dog. With me being a senior, a shelter life isn't for me. I don't want to be in a cage anymore. There are better ways to spend my golden years. Please come soon so I can have a 3rd chance at happiness. Love, Trent Woof! My name is Jenko. Don’t you think I am a very handsome fellow. Right now I am at Fayette Friends of Animals because someone found me as a stray and brought me here. I am a bit of a Houdini-an escape artist so if you would adopt me you would have to keep an eye on me. I would like a mom or a dad that would be more of a stay home parent. I don’t really like to be left all alone-I like to have company. I was just thinking-if you are a jogger or an outdoor kind of person, then maybe we could become best friends since I am still on the younger side and that would help me keep in great shape. If we are not outside doing something fun then I could be a great lap dog because I love to cuddle. Sometimes I don’t know that I am a big dog. I have been at the shelter for some time now and you know what they say-large black dogs are the hardest to place so prove them wrong and give me a home and I will be your best friend for life. We would like to thank Dale Eicher for once again hosting the Car Show for our animals. Those that attended enjoyed the beautiful weather and the magnificent cars that came for the afternoon. Everyone appreciates all the hard work Dale does to make this event a huge success. Thank you Dale!!! Dale Eicher, the host of the car show, presenting an award to one of the winners. Even Molly came for the day to check out the cars Dale getting a helping hand distributing the awards from Sydney Coleman. THANK YOU to everyone who participated in this event for Fayette Friends of Animals!! Wren McKean and a group of her friends and family took on the monumental task of organizing and orchestrating our first annual softball tournament. Despite the oppressive heat, the teams played at Hutchinson field on July 26. Numerous activities were available for spectators and players alike. Rolling Hills Vet clinic provided a rabies clinic and the Masontown Police K-9 Unit did a demonstration for all to enjoy. Numerous, local businesses also helped to provide services and donations to help this event to be a success. Congratulations to the first place winners, Economy Furnace Team. Second place went to Team Reinsfelder. Mike Wood Toyota provided the trophies. So start thinking about team members for next year and get those gloves ready for a fun, albeit competitive, day of softball! Fayette Friends of Animals held their first Paint and Sip on May 16, 2015. A giant thank you goes out to Wren McKean for organizing this successful event. Almost 50 people attended this fun event and left with their very own work of art to take home and proudly display. The instructor chose a pet related theme and participants were able to take this example and personalize it to fit their own likes and tastes. The Park Inn by Radisson in Uniontown hosted a Paint and Sip on June 24th to benefit FFOA. They are a pet friendly hotel and have graciously adopted the shelter for their 2015 charity. Participants enjoyed light refreshments and a bake sale while enjoying the atmosphere by the pool. Each participant followed step-by-step instructions to create their own painting. They were able to personalize their masterpiece to suit their own taste. Afterwards, they had their very own original painting to take home and display. Everyone that attended had a wonderful evening with friends and supported the shelter at the same time. We greatly look forward to future events with the hotel.
