Rotary Club Of Kuala Lumpur DiRaja BERITA ROTARY Directors’ Reports for Rotary Year 2009-10 At the end of every Rotary year, the club’s directors or Committee chairs respectively report on what has happened during the past year. On Wednesday 16 June, Rtns Horst Wippern (Administration), Adenan Mohd Zain (Membership) and Hardeep Jr (Service Projects) took to the stage, as it were, to deliver their brief reports - details of their respective committees’ activities can be found in the souvenir magazine for our club’s 83rd installation. ROYAL PATRON Duli Yang Maha Mulia Sultan Selangor Darul Ehsan Membership Development YEAR 2009 - 2010 President Dato' Rizal Sardon, PHF Tel: 012 - 297 8197 [email protected] Committee chair Rtn Adenan proudly reported that the club grew by 7 members to 101 during his tenure, more than what Pres. Rizal had committed to DG Leslie Salehuddin. He was also happy to report that membership retention was 100% since no member resigned or was terminated during 2009-10. President-Elect Andy Khoo, PHF Tel: 012 - 226 4646 [email protected] Vice President Mohd Nor Halim Tel: 012 - 383 3755 [email protected] Honorary Treasurer Richard Barrett Tel: 016 - 910 4763 [email protected] Honorary Secretary Mohd Ridza Abdullah, PHF Tel: 012 - 217 9917 [email protected] Club Administration Immediate Past President Francis Chan, PHF Tel: 012 - 212 8182 [email protected] Rtn Horst started off by reporting on the attendance which - sadly - has been declining from the first meeting of the Rotary year. Is it that members start the year with high hopes and then get bored with the speaker selection? Are they too busy or not interested in club affairs? Your guess is as good as your fellow member’s. District-wide we are not doing too badly, though. A list of all the speakers, topics, events can be found in the installation souvenir magazine. The fellowship events were listed. To round off the report, admin chair Horst showed a few pictures of the newly established club archives, hoping those PPs who have not bothered to give a thought to preserving the club’s history might wake up and start handing over whatever they have collected during their terms of office. Membership chair Rtn Adenan reporting Club Service Projects Hardeep Singh, PHF Tel: 016 - 368 2633 [email protected] Rtn Adenan, however, admitted that the ‘Member Care’ sub-committee plan had failed due to lack of response from some members, and he is now looking at other methods to make it work as he is continuing in his position during Rotary year 2010-11 in Pres. Andy Khoo's team. Membership Datuk Adenan Mohd Zain Tel: 019-353 6118 [email protected] The Rotary Foundation Gerald Lee Tel: 012-320 7540 [email protected] Club Public Relations Andy Khoo, PHF Tel: 016-226 4646 [email protected] Service Projects Special Projects / Function Wong Cham Mew Tel: 019 - 333 3766 [email protected] Many members have remarked that Rtn Hardeep ‘must be looking for punishment’ as he plods on to oversee the largest and most important committee in our club. So he reported, albeit briefly, on projects involving community service, youth, vocation, international. The Object of Rotary Rtn Richard explaining the figures whilst Rtn Horst is ‘driving’ the laptop Public Relations Chair ‘Big’ Hardeep - Service project chair On Wednesday 23 June, the ‘reporting series’ was continued with Hon. Treasurer Richard Barrett, PR Chair Andy Khoo and Hon. Secretary Ridza Abdullah delivering their reports. Again, some information is shown in the 83rd installation banquet souvenir magazine. Honorary Treasurer Rtn Richard showed a number of tables relating to the cash position of both RC Kuala Lumpur DiRaja and Kuala Lumpur Rotary Charity Foundation. The situation looks healthy. It seems that with some clarifying input from Hon. Treasurer Peter Tham (2007-08) finally the accounts for RY 200809 can be completed and presented to the members shortly. And those for RY 200910 won’t be far behind. Rtn Richard also presented the figures for the 82nd installation and fund raising dinner (Pres. Rizal). PE Andy Khoo was happy to report that the club (and consequently Rotary) achieved an improved media visibility, both in the English and vernacular press. Also with regular submissions to the District editor our club and its activities was featured in a number of Governor’s newsletters. With his installation just 3 days ago, PE took the opportunity to show members the mementos that were presented by the sister clubs which attended the event. The development of acquaintance as an opportunity for service; SECOND. High ethical standards in business and professions, the recognition of the worthiness of all useful occupations, and the dignifying of each Rotarian's occupation as an opportunity to serve society; THIRD. The application of the ideal of service in each Rotarian's personal, business, and community life; FOURTH. The advancement of international understanding, goodwill, and peace through a world fellowship of business and professional persons united in the ideal of service. The Four-Way Test Of the things we think, say or do: 1) Is it the TRUTH? 2) Is it FAIR to all concerned? 3) Will it build GOODWILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS? 4) Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned? Sec. Freddy Chan). He was happy to report that (with perseverance) the club got through the AGMs and EGMs to clean up and modernise the KLRCF rules, and it updated the RCKL constitution and bylaws. Well done Ridza! Pictures of Meeting 16.06.2010 Hon. Secretary Ridza delivering his report Visitors from daughter club (Kpg Baharu) and sister club (Hatyai Nakarin) Pre-Installation Fellowship Dinner with Sister Club Rotarians Rtn Gerald Lee had arranged for a steamboat dinner at Damansara Village Seafood Restaurant – a venue tucked away in an area only known to insiders, apparently – to welcome our visitors from RC Phuket and Raffles City who had come to KL to attend the 83rd installation dinner. Having flown in the course of the day, it was easy enough for Phuket Rotarians to arrive for the steamboat dinner well in time. Those from Raffles City were not so lucky, taking 7 hours to drive up from Singapore (more than 40 years ago, the editor did better, driving his VW fighting logging trucks on narrow roads). But when they reached the restaurant a great time was had with plenty of food and more than enough drinks to wash it down. The idea of a breakfast fellowship the following morning was given a miss, with nobody wanting to get up at an unearthly hour.
