BLACK FRIDAY DEALS ARE MORE AGGRESSIVE THIS YEAR • Earlier Store Openings. Many stores are opening earlier on Thanksgiving Day. JC Penney is opening three hours earlier than it did last year, representing the biggest adjustment among retailers we covered. • More Electronics. Electronics and home appliances have long been the superstars of Black Friday ads. These items are prominent features on most of the front pages again this year and retailers have even managed to fit more of them on one page. • More Efficient Use of Pages. The principle of less is more isn’t applying to retail promotions this holiday. Dollar General and Costco, for example, added more items per page in their Black Friday ads this year. A few others increased the number of pages per circular. • Shift to Higher-‐Ticket Items on the Front Page. Many retailers used their Black Friday front pages to display bigger-‐ticket items. Kohl's switched from toys to electronics. Dollar General added items with higher tickets, such as kitchen appliances and tablets. BLACK FRIDAY 2013 BLACK FRIDAY 2014 FBIC Global publication:
