unique in that it offers a variety of recreational amenities, restaurants and shops all
catering to the casual visitor and boating enthusiast. It is easy to see why so many set sail

Harbor is an exciting portside community, located in a
natural cove bounded on one side by dramatic cliffs and, on
the other, by the clear waters of the Pacific.
Dana Point Harbor has been attracting mariners and visitors
alike since the 1800’s. A nine-foot bronze statue of author/
seaman Richard Henry Dana gazes across the Harbor. The
town is named after Dana who visited this area in 1835
aboard the trading ship Pilgrim and declared our cliff-lined
cove “the only romantic
spot in California”.

The Harbor has a rich maritime history and while it
was quite the adventure back then to get to the area, it is
now easily accessible for sailors and visitors alike. The
adventures now lie in the many land and water activities
that are available within the Harbor. Accessibility to the
Harbor’s many amenities is made trouble free with ample
FREE parking.
The Harbor is home to 15 restaurants catering to every
taste, offering fine dining and casual eats along with an
ocean breeze. Dining choices include not only terrific
views from great outdoor patios, but are also local favorites.
Discover a restaurant that offers food for your every mood
from snappy sunrise breakfasts, scrumptious lunches
and romantic dinners. Discover “just off the boat” fresh
seafood, Mesquite grilled steaks, New York style Deli fare,
Mexican and French cuisine and the best pizza on earth. Let’s not forget the best happy hours in town where you can
enjoy great appetizers and quench your thirst!
The Harbor is ideally located to provide the quickest
and closest doorway into the world of these magnificent
mammals. The Dana Point headlands is a reference
“landmark” for the whales and is a famous gathering area,
attracting whales year round. Each winter Gray Whales
leave the cold Arctic Seas and follow the coastline to the
warm, calm waters of Southern California and Baja. This
5,000-mile migration brings many of the pods past the
Harbor where they can easily be seen and photographed. Upon the Gray Whales return to the Arctic in late April,
the summer finds our waters awash with Blue Whales and
often Humpbacks along with Minke and Fin Whales. Whale Watching has become a year round activity and it
doesn’t get better than in the Whale Watching Capital of
the West, Dana Point!
Two marinas inside a 1.5 mile jetty are home to 2,500 boats. Complete marina facilities include guest slips, launching
ramps, fuel dock, shipyard, boat sales and rentals, yacht
clubs and sailing associations. Dreaming of owning or
chartering a boat? Our yacht brokers and charter companies
are conveniently located and eager to help turn your dreams
into reality.
Activities abound both in and out of the water. Kayaking,
stand up paddling, sailing, jet skiing, fishing, whale
watching, marine cruises and music cruises are all available
in our Harbor. We are the only harbor that gets you out in
the ocean and having fun within minutes of your launch. The Catalina Express Ferry is your ride to fun filled Catalina
Island. The surrounding parks include fantastic public picnic and
BBQ areas, open grass areas, a public fishing pier and local
favorite, Baby Beach. Baby Beach is a wave free swim area
where children and parents can play in the water. Kayakers
and paddle boarders also launch from this area to enjoy
the wake free waters of the marina. Many enjoy strolling,
walking or jogging along the water’s edge or you can bicycle

The OC Sailing & Events Center offers classes both in and
out of the water. Professional Instruction for sailing and
paddle boarding allows you to become part of the Harbor
experience!
The Harbor is home to the Ocean Institute, a marine
education facility. The Ocean Institute is nationally known
for its hands-on marine science, environmental, ocean
education and maritime history programs. It is open to
the public on weekends and is home to two tall ships, the
Pilgrim and Spirit of Dana Point.
For a quick pick me up, enjoy your favorite ice cream,
smoothie or specialty coffee drink alongside the water’s
edge.

Intriguing shops are loaded with unexpected treasures. Discover fine jewelry, coastal home décor, artwork, boutique
clothing, hand made chocolates, perfumes and custom made
soaps and lotions, wine and gourmet foods and nautical gifts. The merchants of the Harbor specialize in customer service
and are eager to help you find that ‘special’ gift.
The Tidepools located behind the Institute are where you
can get an up-close view of the many different species of
