We’ve had a great sermon series as we journeyed
with Will Willimon through his Fear of the Other:
No Fear in Love book. We’ve remembered our
dear sister in Christ, Betty Christholf in worship.
We’ve blessed our Timber Grove School supplies.
We’ve gathered at Gourmet Girls for great dialogue. A group has resumed Covenant Bible Study. The leaders set goals in June
and gathered in August to check status on those goals and set direction for the coming months. The nominations committee met to consider new leaders who will
guide our faith community into the future.
September brings a slew of new opportunities – Sunday School, Family Fellowship, Youth Worship, Charge Conference and more. As we journey, I invite you to
remember that we need not FEAR as we journey! With confidence and trust, we
can journey together as beloved children of God with God leading us onward to a
kin-dom of love, peace, justice, and hope!
I want to invite you to consider the following as we journey onward:
 Pray – Please pray for our church, its leaders, and your pastor. Pray for our
preschool as they begin another year of ministry to children in our community.
 Come – Make time to come to worship. Come be a part of Charge Conference
on Sept 26th at 7 pm at Pleasant Hill UMC. This is an important annual event
connecting us to our denomination and the other UMC churches in our area and
your participation builds that connection.
 Give – Give generously of your resources. We need your generous gifts to support the mission and ministry of this church. We are meeting the financial obligations of today, but we want to grow for the future. This will take an increased
level of giving. As we move into the fall, watch for information on our new
electronic giving option which will make giving easier and more reliable.
 Serve – Serve Christ not only here in our church but in your home, your workplace, and your community. Love all with the wide embrace of Christ in word
and action!
 Tell – Tell your friends and neighbors about all that God is doing in your life
and in our church. Invite them to come check it out! Family fellowship nights
are a great time to invite a friend. Special worship events like Vespers, Christmas Eve, and Youth Worship are also great times to invite a friend or family
member who doesn’t have a church home.
With God’s love and our trust and faithfulness, we can indeed build a bit of the
kin-dom right here and right now!
With grace and peace,
Pastor Dawn

Help Wanted: Mission Trip
Experience helpful but not required.
Where: Pittsburgh, PA
When: Nov. 4 – 6, 2016
Cost: $120.00
(Cost includes meals, lodging, fellowship and the opportunity to be the
hands and feet of Christ).
We are organizing a group to participate in a 3-day mission trip to
Pittsburgh, PA. We may be asked
to drywall, lay shingles, build a
handicapped ramp or paint a porch.
Please see Robin Knell, Lynn
Beebe or Pastor Dawn if you have
questions or would like more details.
We ask that you notify us of your
commitment by Sept 25, so that
we know how many are interested.
Money is due 30 days before the
trip. The Pittsburgh Project is a
Christian non-profit community
development organization with a
nearly 30-year track record of serving the city’s most vulnerable residents.
If you can’t go with the team, but
would still like to help, consider
sponsoring someone else who can
pitch in but doesn’t have the funds
right now! Double the blessing!!
Pray. Love. Serve.
Mission Spotlight: Food Sunday and
Reisterstown Community Crisis Center
The Community Crisis Center, Inc. (CCC) is a non-profit organization that was founded in
1982 by ministerial and civic groups to serve local residents in need. CCC's mission is
made possible by our donations and volunteers who contribute countless hours of time
and service. Ironically, the center was founded in response to a very similar economic
recession that we are all experiencing today. This human service organization is located
at 725 Main Street in Reisterstown and is dedicated to the prevention of homelessness
through helping families and individuals of the Reisterstown, Owings Mills and Glyndon
area.
How can you help?
The Community Crisis Center relies HEAVILY upon donations from congregations, organizations, and businesses for emergency food items and personal hygiene products

Fall Youth Fellowship
Prep was done & they waited for arrivals!
VBS
A huge thank you to Terri Dotterer and
team for making this year’s VBS such
a blessing for the children and families. Terri was able to work with several other churches to borrow the
amazing decorations they used and she
built a dynamic team of leaders to
walk the children through their Cave
Quest. The children were busy singing
songs, making crafts, listening to stories and building friendships.
THANKS to all who helped make this
such a successful event—everyone
who donated their time, their money,
their supplies, their energy, and their
prayers. Even though volunteers were
weary at the end, all involved earnestly
agreed it was a rewarding experience!
Preschool
starts next week!
We are happy to announce that Terri
Dotterer is now serving as our Preschool Interim Director. Our 4’s Class
teachers are Lauren Lorber and Terri
Dotterer, and our 3’s Class teachers are
Karen Carpenter and Ashley Silcott.
Thanks to all who donated preschool
supplies to get us started. The donations
really help to keep our little school running. For those who still want to help,
donations needed this month are: Goldfish & animal crackers, applesauce
(large jars), 100% grape and apple
juice, cheese sticks, graham crackers,
pretzels, large boxes of Cheerios, Apple
Jacks, Mini Wheats, or Raisin Bran,
and canned pineapple in fruit juice.
You can sign up for fresh fruit/veggies.
Save the date—Sept 18
Fall is a great time of the year to emphasize the connectedness of our faith
community and to encourage us to
see ourselves as “one” even when we
aren’t together at church. Our first
Youth Worship night will be September 18th, 5pm to 7pm. We will be
creating our own pizzas and learning
how we can stay connected to each
other. We are asking that everyone
bring a case of drinks with them that
we will be able to use for our times
together. We will explore John 15: 111.
Please look for our sign-up sheet to
help us serve families a meal and fellowship at the Ronald McDonald
House on Sunday, October 2nd.
Please join us for a time of faith, fellowship and fun.

Young Adult Highlight
Sara Hampt
Sara has been at GUMC, much like
her daughter, since before she was
born. She started singing in choirs at
a very young age. Sara took part in
Sunday school, VBS, both as a participant and a helper, handbells,
WNT youth group, Vespers, soup
kitchens, and mission trips. Sara
gave her first sermon as a teenager
on scouting Sunday. She has played
handbells, directed handchimes,
served on the nominations and scholarship committees, done mission
work and outreach. Sara continues to
sing in the choir, attend family fellowship nights, play music for Morning Glories and family fellowship
nights, participate in the young families group and currently serve as the
GUMC lay leader.
When I asked
Sara to pick a
favorite Sunday
School teacher
her response
was “I loved all
my Sunday
school teachers! How could
I possibly pick
just one?”
Kathy Anderson shared “As I was
going through some older PeaceBringers music the other day, I came
across some music that had Sara's
name on it. It just reminded me of
how long she has been, not only in
MY life, but in the life of the music
ministry at Glyndon church. I met
Sara when she was a third grader and
she has never stopped praising God
with her gift of music. Sara enjoys all
aspects of church and is especially
fond of our Christmas and Easter
traditions.”
“The fellowship I enjoy with many
people, and the heart I see in many to
serve Christ” is what Sara states she
likes best about our church.
Sara is admired by many and a blessing to our Glyndon UMC Family.
Girlfriends Lunch
Men’s Breakfast
Now that everyone is finishing up their vacations in August, we are looking forward to gathering our GUMC
“girlfriends” together to enjoy lively discussions and tasty
food at J&P’s restaurant (4821 Butler Road, Glyndon).
Even Labor Day weekends won’t keep our Glyndon
men from their breakfast gathering. This month’s
breakfast will be held:
Saturday, September 3 at 8:00am in Dew Hall.
Consider joining us on Sunday
Come out and enjoy some Christian fellowship and a
tasty breakfast, with this time or for a future breakfast,
They are held the first Saturday of each month.
September 4 at 11:30.
Effective Oct 2, these monthly lunches will start at 12:30
and will be on first Sunday of each month. You can contact Kathy Rittler or Pastor Dawn for more details.
Also mark your October calendars to save Saturday,
October 1 for the Annual Men’s Prayer Breakfast,
joining other Christian men in our community and beyond. More details will follow. Contact Dan Marshall
(443-463-7036) for more information.
It’s a great follow up to Sunday Worship and to reflect on
Pastor Dawn’s sermon take-away thoughts!
Who and What Is The Discipleship Team?
The Discipleship Team is a group of GUMC members who wish to bring fellow members of the church opportunities
to:
 Greet on Sunday morning, welcoming fellow members and all who attend GUMC.
 Share “activity bags” for children to enjoy while in church (stored in the “Ushers’ Room” in the Narthex).
 Share church information with the use of a large, colorful postcard giving an overview of the GUMC Worship
Schedule and ongoing activities, available where the bulletins are displayed on Sundays.
 Offering church tee shirts you can order.
 Participating in the Reisterstown Festival Parade, reaching out to our neighbors with the gift of a bottle of water
carrying a scripture verse. A great event to wear your GUMC tee shirt as you walk.
 The Parade is held on the second Saturday in September—making “Summer last another week in Reisterstown.”
It’s a festive event with Scouts, Community Groups, Churches, Music Makers, and Dancers, Marching Bands,
Classic Cars/Trucks, Fire Companies, and MUCH MORE! All of which is FUN to enjoy!
Further ideas are welcome and will be discussed. Would YOU be willing to bring your thoughts and service to the
Discipleship Team? If so, contact Joan Poling or Judy McCracken. We would love to have you join us.
ROCK 2017!
When: February 3-5, 2017
Where: Ocean City, MD
This may seem far into the future, but plans need to be made now, so contact Laura Oneto ASAP.
What is ROCK? It is a powerful and fun-filled weekend in Ocean City with an event that allows youth and adults to
take a step back from their busy lives and learn about the amazing love of Jesus Christ. It is an awesome experience
for folks to more fully connect with God and their friends while listening to great bands and speakers. When leaving
ROCK, you will feel renewed and ready to spread the word about God’s great love for us. ROCK is designed as a retreat with a focus on presenting the Gospel message in an exciting, culturally appropriate way for young people (and
adults too) to be exposed to and have an opportunity to respond to an invitation to a life-changing relationship with
Jesus Christ.

TRUSTEE NEWS!
No Fear In Love—Final Dialogue Group Gathering
Adopt
a
Square
Foot
of our
New
Roof
Saturday, September 10th
Join Pastor Dawn on Saturday, September 10 at 9am, for the final Dialogue
Group get-together at Gourmet Girls in Owings Mills (1 Easter Ct, Suite D).
We will continue to share reflections on William Willimon’s book and discuss relevant personal, national, and world issues around “Jesus, the Other”.
Join us as we share lively, open, reflective discussions.
For a leak free
church!
New Sermon Series
We are hard at work keeping our
building and grounds looking great
and Phase 2 of the roof has been replaced, but not fully paid for yet. Look
for the “Adopt-A-Square-Foot of
Roof” display in the “Gathering
Room” (formerly called glass lobby).
Starts Sunday, September 11
Look around the sanctuary—do you
see a difference? We have scraped
and painted all the radiators in the
sanctuary. Little things that don’t take
up too much time (thanks to dedicated
volunteers) can really make a warm
and inviting church.
If you have any questions or suggestions about what your Trustees Committee does, or if you are just the curious type, we encourage you to join us
at one of our meetings that are held in
the Church Parlor at 7:00pm the second Monday of each month.
Annual Charge Conference
Coming Up September 26th!
They say time flies when you are having fun, so it is hard to believe that
Pastor Dawn will be with us for her
second Charge Conference as the pastor of Glyndon United Methodist
Church. The charge conference will
take place on September 26 at 7pm
at Pleasant Hill UMC.
Please mark your calendars to attend
this meeting.
All committee chairs and the leadership team need to prepare their reports
and forward them to Pastor Dawn to
start preparing packets of materials for
the meeting. So please assist them
gathering info if requested so we can
make our deadline. Please see Pastor
Dawn if questions.
Return to Regular Worship and
Sunday School Schedule
Sunday, September 18, we will return to our regular worship &
Sunday School schedule as follows:

Join Us for Family Fellowship
Our September Family Fellowship will be on September 11. Because this is Rally Day and we will have already
shared a feast, we’ll do a simple campfire and sing along down around our fire ring beginning at 6 pm and concluding at 8 pm. Pastor Dawn and Kevin will have smore fixin’s, hot dogs, and buns. Bring your chairs and/or a
blanket to sit on and come out for a casual evening of fellowship and fun.
Did you know? Family Fellowship evenings are a great time to enjoy fellowship and have fun. They
will be held on the Second Sunday of the month from 5 – 7 pm (usually!, note September exception). Mark your
calendars and plan some time to relax with your family, make new friends, and enjoy some food and fun.
