Seago took over at quarterback
on the Cavaliers’ final possession
of the second quarter. He later contributed a 46-yard touchdown for
Carlinville’s only score of the second half.
Late in the second quarter, most
of the offensive starters were done
for the night.
Easterday said being up by so
much gave many underclassmen a
chance to see game action.
“It was an opportunity tonight
where some younger kids got to
play,” he said.
Roberts tallied a team-high five
tackles. E. Dixon, Broedy Long,
Gray, Matt Bolomey and Ben Rog-
ers each had four tackles. Gray,
Dunlap, Taylor Lee and Alex Wood
each contributed one tackle-forloss.

“It’s a great way for them to wrap
that up for them at home in terms
of our regular season,” C. Easterday said. “Hopefully with a win
next week, being at 7-2 there’s an
outside chance we may get a home
game (for the playoffs).”
The Cavaliers’ playoff opponent
will be announced Saturday, Oct.
26, by the IHSA.
Carlinville finishes the home
portion of its schedule with a 4-1

Cavaliers close regular season Oct. 25 at Litchfield

Carlinville High School’s varsity
football team plays its final South
Central Conference game Friday,
Oct. 25, when it travels to Litchfield. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
CHS has won its last three games
against the Purple Panthers, earning
a home win over LHS 51-6 in October 2012. The Cavaliers also earned
a road win over Litchfield 48-14 in
2011 and defeated the Purple Panthers 42-0 in 2010.
Litchfield, 3-5, sits alone at
seventh-place in the conference, a
game behind both Pana and Hillsboro (both 4-4).
The Purple Panthers are coming
off a 42-14 road loss at Hillsboro
Oct. 18. They also lost to Pana 2620 Oct. 11. Litchfield’s last win
was Oct. 4 when it defeated Rox-
ana 27-8.
LHS has been outscored 68-34
the past two weeks.
So far this season, the Purple
Panthers are 3-1 in home games.
Litchfield, which has scored 219
points through eight games, is averaging 27.38 points per contest. The
Purple Panthers’ offense has been
slightly better in its four games at
home.
They are scoring 33 points per in
front of the home crowd.
Carlinville has scored 299 points
this season, the third-most in the
conference, and is averaging 37.38
points a game. Defensively, CHS
has given up 163 points, an average
of 20.38 per game.
CHS is 2-1 in road games. It defeated Roxana 45-15 in week one,
got past Pana 26-21 Sept. 20 and
Carlinville High School senior Eric
Pingolt recorded four birdies in the
first 10 holes in his second day at the
IHSA Class 1A State Golf Tournament
on his way to a 87, which left him tied
for 76th. He finished his two rounds in
177 shots and was at plus-33 over par at
the par-72 Prairie Vista Golf Course in
Bloomington.
On the event’s opening day Pingolt
shot a 90 Oct. 18 and was tied for 83rd.
During his opening round, Pingolt recorded four pars and a birdie.
Other county finishers
Mt. Olive’s William Murphy fired a
76 Oct. 18 which was tied for 13th. He
followed that up with a 12-over par 84
on Oct. 19 to finish in 160 shots and tied
for 24th overall. Murphy birdied three
of the first 10 holes in the tournament’s
second day.
Tyler Woods of Northwestern shot a 76
on the first day and then shot 89 on Oct.
19 to finish tied for 50th in 168 shots.
Trey Timpe of Stockton shot a 145 to
win the two-day tournament, finishing
with a one-over par 73 Oct. 19. Timpe
recorded four birdies on the front nine
on day two and held off Eureka junior
Trevor Gold, who birdied three of the
final six holes and had an eagle on No.
17. Gold shot a 72 to end the tournament with a 146.
Christopher Tate of Champaign St.
Thomas More led the event after the
first round, shooting a 68 on the first
day. Tate finished tied for sixth, ending
the 36-hole event in 152 shots.

Playing in their final game
for CHS were: Levan, Stoops,
Boente, Utter, Naugle, Blaise Hulin, Dominic Marchiori and Jacob
Porter.
CHS finishes the 2013 season
with an overall record of 14-8.
Litchfield, the No. 1 seed, had
advanced to the regional final
with a 9-0 win over No. 4 Southwestern. The Purple Panthers
season continued in a sectional
semifinal against Olney in Raymond Oct. 23.
Cavaliers bully ‘Dawgs, 4-0
Carlinville began postseason
play with a shutout victory over
Staunton High School Oct. 16.
The Cavaliers got first-half
scores from Jacob Porter and
Devin Stoops. Both goals came
in the first 10 minutes of the
opening half. Porter was assisted
by Stoops to put CHS on top 1-0.
Blaise Hulin assisted on Stoops’
goal moments later to make it
2-0.
In the second half, Pietro Lentini scored an unassisted goal.
Lentini added a second goal to
make it 4-0. Lentini tapped in a
rebound following a shot by Kyle
Levan after the Staunton goalie
was unable to corral the rebound.
The Cavaliers had other opportunities to add to its 4-0 lead but
were unable to cash in. Hulin sent
a left-footed boot just wide of the
goal while later on Kole Utter
sent a shot high.
Staunton finishes the 2013 season with a record of 6-12-2.
Bettis finished with 15 saves
while Litchfield goalie contributed 17 saves.
Carlinville had 18 shots on goal
while Litchfield had 12 shots.
The Cavaliers had seven corner
kicks while Litchfield finished
with three corner kicks.
then lost at Gillespie 36-27. It will
be looking to score more than 28
points in a road game for the first
time since Aug. 30.
The Cavaliers, who are coming
off a 76-14 home win over Southwestern, tallied nine rushing touchdowns Oct. 18. Carlinville will be
seeking a victory to improve its
playoff seeding.
The Illinois High School Association plans to make playoff pairings Saturday, Oct. 26, on its web
site, ihsa.org.
Carlinville will likely look to get
its ground game going. It has averaged nearly 320 rushing yards per
game this season.
CHS has tallied 2,553 rushing
yards this year on 353 attempts, an
average of 7.23 yards per carry.

first marathon in a time of 4:31.34. Madden ran a personal best of
4:07.36 and Viano ran her first marathon and qualified for the Boston
Marathon with a time of 3:54.22.
Country Financial/Gary Edwards Offensive
Player of the Game
Kinney Myles has been selected as this week’s Country
Financial/Gary Edwards Offensive Player of the Week.
Myles, a 6-foot-1, 200-pound junior running back
rushed for 192 yards on just 8 carries and had touchdown
runs of 72 and 53 yards on his first two carries. He also
had an 8 yard TD run. Myles has gained 1,278 yards this
season, which is the fifth highest rushing total in CHS history for a 9-game schedule.

FTTF Defensive Player of the Game
Josh Boston was named the First to the Finish Defensive Player of the Game.
Boston, a 6-foot-2, 215-pound senior defensive lineman, anchored the Carlinville defensive front, which
held Southwestern to 177 yards rushing in the first half.
“He’s had a couple of great weeks in a row and he played extremely well this week on the defensive
line,” Easterday said. “He’s been doing the grunt work for a while.”
Boston received a plaque, courtesy of First to the Finish, along with a large pizza, compliments of Nick’s
Pizza in Carlinville.
Carlinville Football Club Game Changer Award
LaDarius Dunlap received the Carlinville Football Club Game Changer Award.
Dunlap, a 5-foot-11, 165-pound senior had a first-quarter interception that set up Carlinville’s second
score of the game. Dunlap leads the Cavaliers in interceptions this season with 5 and has two fumble
recoveries. He has recorded 26 tackles with 18 solos.
“He had a big interception. We were up 7-0 and it was probably one of the most athletic catches I’ve
seen this year,” Easterday said. “He had a one-handed tip to himself and that play changed the momentum
of the game.”
Dunlap received a plaque courtesy of the Carlinville Football Club, along with a pizza, compliments of
Reno’s Pizza in Carlinville.
