A YEAR TO BE EXTRAORDINARY Some years feel significant even before they start. For us, 2015 is such a year. It marks 15 years since we began hosting epicurean and cultural events. It salutes a shift we’ve seen in the way our guests want to vacation: more learning, more trying new things, more experiencing. And it promises to be our biggest year of events yet. It also promises to be our most impactful. Over the last fifteen years, our events have raised $2.5 million for charitable organizations. This year, we aim to amplify our impact by adding a giving opportunity to every event, be it a silent auction or ticket sales. As our guest, you are helping us make a lasting difference. Personally, the year feels momentous for us, too. Each member of our team set bucket list goals for the year, from taking a long-planned grandkids getaway to training for a marathon. Why? Because there’s no better time or place to pursue a passion. As long as we’ve been hosting events, we’ve been helping guests like you do just that. Maybe you’ll fall for cycling the way I once did during Tour de Smokies. Maybe you’ll bump into your favorite chef at the bar and share a conversation over drinks. Maybe one of our retreats will help you take your yoga practice even deeper. These are the kind of experiences that happen at Blackberry Farm. As always, those experiences will include a talented roster of visiting chefs, vintners, athletes, artisans, musicians and teachers who bring their passion to the farm. In celebration of such an exciting year, we’ve invited some big names to Blackberry Farm—legendary names that include David Chang, Rick Bayless and Nickel Creek. To preserve the rare intimacy and access that make our events so remarkable, space is limited—and with a calendar this special, reservations will disappear even faster than usual. Whether you come for a cooking school, a cycling trip or a family getaway, we invite you to add your name to the list of those heading to Blackberry in 2015. That’s what this almanac is all about: welcoming you to share some of the best days of the year with us. For the first time or the fifteenth time, this is the year you experience Blackberry. It’s going to be a good one. My family and I look forward to seeing you on the farm soon! Sincerely, Sam Beall Proprietor Table of Contents 5 LATE WINTER 15 SPRING 23 SUMMER 37 FALL 47 EARLY WINTER 52 EVENT INDEX 4 LATE WINTER When the New Year dawns, the frost whitens the roof and you spend your nights by a roaring fire… You know it’s time for thrilling foxhunts, hot fluffy biscuits, romantic getaways, brilliant champagne, long weekends spent by cozy fires, calming yoga, cooking demonstrations with big time chefs, warming whiskey, soulful concerts, sleeping late. 5 L AT E W I N T E R N IC K EL C R EE K C ONCERT W EE K EN D January 2–4 We can’t think of a better way to kick off a big year at Blackberry than by opening the doors of The Barn for an intimate concert by GRAMMY Award-winning bluegrass band Nickel Creek.
