Usually the first candle is lit by the youngest in the family. Let Us Pray for the Deceased of our Parish: James F. Carelton, Margaret Cordeau Nina DeFlumeri, Emmanuel Gianino MIDWEEK REFRESHER READ: Luke 3: 10-18 REFLECT: When Luke writes his gospel several decades after the Ascension, it is the Church, through the ministry of the apostles, which is conferring Christian baptism in the Spirit. His account is certainly not without a basis in history, but what interests him most is the history of salvation which continues to unfold in the primitive community. The expectation of an imminent end is fading. The Baptist's exhortations to conversion take on a new meaning. They are a challenge to transform our everyday lives. In this reading Luke introduces us to crowds of people of good will from every walk of life. Attentive to the Precursor's preaching, they have become aware that they must change their lives. Like the, we ask, "What must we do?" As the prelude to any conversion, we must renounce all self-sufficiency; we must acknowledge the necessity of being pierced to the heart by a word which will draw us out of ourselves. Thus, in the circumstances of our own lives, we must accomplish the obligations of social justice, mutual aid and charity. We join those innumerable people who open their lives to the unforeseen, to form a "people in waiting". Precursors still rise up among us. The prepare the way by setting before us the great questions of life and death. God's prophets refer to one more powerful than themselves, the one whom we await: Jesus Christ, who continually baptizes us in both fire and the Spirit. Let Us Pray that our men and women in the service might be safe in the days and weeks ahead. Especially those connected to our Parish as well as those unknown to us: Mark Baldacchino, Melissa Lynn Beaton, Olavio Bisneto, Christopher Brienza, Joseph Dang, Jason Doucette, Michael Doucette, Matthew Evans, John Fitzgerald, John Fitzpatrick, III, Paul Garrity, Chris Grace, Andrew McGlinchey, John O’Rourke, Matthew Pothier, Christina Racca, Brian Ramunno, Stephen Ramunno, Jonathan Rawcliffe, Alex Recupero as well as those unknown to us. We ask that you remember all those that have given so much for us: The Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines and Scripture for the week of December 13th 13 14 15 16 17 18 19 20 SUN Mon Tue Wed Thu Fri Sat SUN Zep 3:14-18a/Phil 4:4-7/Lk 3:10-18 Nm 24:2-7, 15-17a/Mt 21:23-27 Zep 3:1-2, 9-13/Mt 21:28-32 Is 45:6b-8, 18, 21b-25/Lk 7:18b-23 Gn 49:2, 8-10/Mt 1:1-1743 Jer 23:5-8/Mt 1:18-25 Jgs 13:2-7, 24-25a/Lk 1:5-25 Mi 5:1-4a/Heb 10:5-10/Lk 1:39-45 PRAY: As we approach the celebration of the great mystery of the Incarnation, pray for the grace of conversion, turning our hearts once more to that which matters most in our life, our salvation in Christ Jesus.
