The name could be derived from Monte Grappa near the city of Bassano but more likely is that Grappa has its root in in the word “graspia”. Graspia is old Veneto dialect for the weak wine that was fermented from the juice and grapes left over after the the bulk of the grape juice had been pressed out of the harvest. This young, low alcoholic wine, ideal to quench your thirst through the warm summers, came to be part of the raw material and origin of Grappa as we know it today. In our time, Grappa is Italys most prolific distilled beverage, made from the mashed grapes left over after wine making and then barrel aged without any additives. The very core of Italy.
