On July 3rd, 2016, our parish will take up the annual Collection for Black and Indian Missions. Our financial contribution helps to support Catholic American Indian communities on reservations, in rural areas and inner cities. The collection also supports African American evangelization programs particularly in the south. Let us unite ourselves with the love of Christ in supporting the Black and Indian Mission Collection with generous hearts. For more information, go to: www.blackandindianmission.com BUS TRIP TO MOUNT CARMEL During this Extraordinary Jubilee Year of Mercy declared by Pope Francis, we each have a rare opportunity to gain a plenary indulgence (the complete remission of all temporal punishment due to sin). One of the conditions of gaining this indulgence is to pass through one of the specially designated Holy Doors of Mercy. In order to facilitate this opportunity, St. Francis de Sales parish in Phoenicia is sponsoring a bus trip to the beautiful campus of the National Shrine of Our Lady of Mount Carmel in Middletown and they have invited us to join them. The trip will be held on Saturday, September 17, leaving St. Joseph's at 9:15AM and returning at around 2:30PM; the cost will be $10.00, which includes transportation, sandwiches and soft drinks. Seating will be limited. Leave a Lasting Legacy Remember St. Joseph’s Church in your Will A flexible and popular method of achieving your charitable goals arid building a legacy is to create a bequest through your will, or name St. Joseph's Church as beneficiary of a retirement plan. The most common is an unrestricted bequest for the general purpose of St. Matthew Church. This allows the Church to use your gift wherever it is most needed. However, if there is a particular area you wish to support we will work with you. Bequest typically takes one of the following forms: † A specified dollar amount. † Specific assets, such as securities, real estate, or tangible personal property. † Retirement account assets, consisting of any benefits remaining in your retirement plans. † A residuary bequest, in which St. Joseph's receives all or a percentage of the remainder of your estate after all other obligations are met. † A contingent bequest, in which St. Joseph's becomes beneficiary only if the named beneficiary is unable to accept the bequest. † An existing will or trust can be amended to make a gift without rewriting the entire document. Your attorney can prepare a simple document, called a codicil, which adds a new bequest while reaffirming the terms of your will. Similarly, an attorney can prepare an amendment to a revocable trust to add St. Matthew as a beneficiary. If you have included St. Joseph's Church in your plans (or intend to), please let us know. We will handle all communications with the utmost care and confidentiality. For more information, please call the parish office at (845) 338-1554.
