I would have to say my “faith journey”
has definitely been something that I
didn’t expect. But it has changed my

God for all the better. I grew up with
loving parents (still are to this day!), in the Catholic religion, attending Sunday
School, being confirmed, etc. I always considered myself a believer, person of
faith and living a “Christian” life. I was WRONG!
At college, I regularly
attended Sunday mass.
But that was it. I “WENT”
to mass and basically told
myself “I am good for the
week.” My first marriage
provided me a gift, my
15-year-old daughter that
I LOVE more than words
can say. But my first
marriage wasn’t a match
made in heaven, so to
speak. I saw things in her I thought I could change. I didn’t
realize that God has created us all differently and we are not
supposed to “try and change” people but accept each other
for who they are. We are not GOD.

New service Thursday nights starting at
6:30pm, beginning June 2. The service will
be casual, engaging and collaborative. Have
a question for the pastor? Ask it! During the
service! We will take time to worship the Lord,
hear teaching on His word, and discuss the
same scriptures and themes being preached
Sunday morning.
New staff Matt Hantelman was a member
of Noblesville First from 1999 to 2008 before
spending some time in the Louisville area. He
has agreed to come on board and help lead
the music as well as share preaching duties
for the new service.

Teter Organic Farm update
This month we will begin growing 20 varieties of vegetables at Teter
Retreat. This year’s harvest will go to support the Come to Me Food
Pantry, Dinner’s On Us families, and our Riverwood neighbors.
Volunteers will be needed throughout the growing season. Contact

volunteering on the farm. Important dates to remember:

Esther Circle is hosting the
Mother-Child Banquet & Bingo
Bash on Friday, May 6. They
will also be having a meeting on
Friday, May 20 to discuss cookie
delivery.
Grace Circle will meet at the
church on Monday, May 9. Each
member is asked to bring 1-2
dozen cookies/goodies which
can be home baked. We will take
them to Riverwalk Commons
for the employees there as part
of the Cookie Ministry. Time

Bags, Baskets & Blessings
Donations needed
Bags, Baskets and Blessings, a fun event that
raises money for UMW Missions, is Friday,
November 4, but work begins this month!
This event involves silent and live auctions of purses, gift baskets and gift cards.
It’s a fun time to kick back, relax, enjoy delicious food, visit with friends and do
some Christmas, birthday and self-shopping.
What we need at this time is donations of items that can be put into a gift basket,
empty gift baskets and containers, as well as new or like new purses for the
purse auction. As you shop spring sales, please keep this event in mind. Items
can be dropped off at the church office and clearly marked for BBB. Questions?

Community Service
Appreciation Ministry
Pastor Jerry Rairdon came to the United Methodist Women (UMW) with the idea
that our church should start a “Community Service Appreciation Ministry.”
The goal of the ministry involves providing treats, notes of encouragement
and information about Noblesville First to our local firemen, police department,
Hamilton County Sheriff’s Department, jail workers, medical personnel and
school faculty.
We are enlisting the help of various groups around the church, with each group
serving at least twice a year.
Several UMW circles and the youth groups have volunteered for various
assignments, and the Sunday School classes will write special notes and draw
pictures for us to include.
Are you in a group that would like to contribute?
We would like to have a group treat the Hamilton County Juvenile Detention
workers (approximately 52), healthcare workers at many nursing homes and
Riverview Hospital and other areas of employment.

around you who are having to make adjustments in their lives. You can make
a difference and really help by encouraging them to talk to someone. Also
remember that our Stephen Ministers are trained and available for listening

My faith journey (continued from page 1)
After my divorce I felt guilt, shame,
depression, and a worthless feeling.
I thought I let people down, including
myself. You know what I did NOT
do? I didn’t acknowledge God. I was
more worried about pleasing “people”
and what others thought of me. I
was not focused on the one that
matters (GOD) and remembering
to praise and thank him—“My God
and Savior, thank you for forgiving
my sins, washing away my tears and
shining your grace upon me. I know
you have bigger, better plans in store
for me and an abundantly wonderful
destiny planned that you will guide
and lead me through.” As stated in
Psalms, “If God is for me, who can
be against me?”
In 2007, I decided to stop in at a local
restaurant to see if any friends were
there. After checking the parking lot,
I drove off. But something inside of
me, I know now it was our Savior
Jesus Christ, told me to back and go
inside. I walked in and met Laurie,
my wife and life companion ☺. A
mutual friend introduced us and we
talked and laughed for a LONG time
that night. Laurie has been a true
blessing and the BEST gift God has
humbled me with. Laurie challenges
me, inspires me, loves me and
makes me laugh!
God knows I am not always
deserving of his mercy and grace,
but I am humbled and thankful that
God loves us unconditionally and
will always walk with us. He wants
a relationship with us. Laurie and
I married in 2008 and have two
beautiful children and gifts, Kai and
Keira. As we all know, not every
day is joyous or easy. Jesus didn’t
say “if you experience trials and
tribulations,” he said “when you
experience trials and tribulations.”
We are to trust in the Lord and be
thankful in good and bad times. And
you know what, he is always there
with us.
The most exciting and inspiring part
of my life has been the last couple

years. We have attended Noblesville
First over the last five years, but never
really got involved. Made excuses: we
don’t know anyone, no one approaches
us, too busy, the dates/times don’t work
for us, etc. I was more centered on
myself, my schedule, wanting to control
my circumstances and just decided we
would have to do it all alone. WOW, I
had blinders on. We are meant to thrive
as a community and NOT live or parent
alone. We all need a faith community!
At times deep down I wasn’t joyful,
considerate, true or happy with myself.
At times I was bitter, angry, frustrated,
wanting more and not really thinking
of my family and friends. Then one
Sunday morning before church in 2014,
God reached down and shook me (I
FELT HIS PRESENCE IN MY SOUL).
He rekindled my heart and gave me
new life. I felt an alarming presence
and a tug I had never felt before.
That moment changed my life. Things
soon started changing and I realized
GOD was speaking to me and telling
me he loved me and I am someone
special—A Child of God!
One Tuesday morning, I left for the
library to work remotely. I pulled into
the parking lot, took a deep breath
and just felt beat down. Stressed,
tired, angry, I began to cry. Flipping
through the radio channels, it stopped
on KLOVE (I had never listened to
Christian radio) and Crowder’s song
“Come As You Are” came on. As I
listened to it, I felt GOD speaking to
me, comforting me and telling me I am
here and I love you as you are. About
an hour later Steven Curtis Chapman’s
song “Glorious Unfolding” came on and
touched my heart and soul. When the
song started with, “Lay your head down
tonight, take a rest from the fight, and
don’t try to figure it out. Just listen to
what I am whispering to your heart.” I
realized how God touches us with his
word through music.
Later I heard an announcement on
KLOVE about taking the 30-day
challenge by listening to nothing but
Christian radio. Since that day, I listen
only to KLOVE and Christian radio.
Deciding to put more positive energy
into my body rather than negative
and secular energy has made me a
better person, husband, father, son
and child of God. Then I heard about
the KLOVE pledge drive and decided
to become a monthly pledge member,
starting out small and continuing
to increase my contribution. I have
never noticed missing it. Just the
opposite, I have more in many ways
and peace. I have been given more
through God’s amazing grace.
Last year Laurie and I went to six
Christian concerts! They were
amazing and a time to sing songs,
praise God, refresh and invigorate
our body and soul. I’ve never been
a reader, especially inspirational or
Christian books. But in 2015, I read
eight inspirational/Christian books.
Now I LOVE reading. A couple
favorites are “God Never Blinks”
and Rick Warren’s “Purpose Driven
Life,” which really impacted me. I
remember the day I purchased it. On
the first page, God says “this book is
written for YOU and I love you”.
As I was finishing the book and
leaving for a business trip I prayed,
“God, I want to reach one person and
share your love and strengthen your
word in him/her.” On my trip, I finished
the book and in the hotel lobby I
laid the book down on the counter.
The desk clerk noticed it and said
“That is an interesting title ‘Purpose
Driven Life.’” The next day I went to
the bookstore and bought him the
book. When I gave it to him, I said
“Enjoy and we serve a GREAT God.”
These past couple years I continue
to become inspired, filled with so
much more peace, joy, thankfulness,
goodness, faithfulness, confidence,
strength, patience and blessing.
Now that I have truly accepted Jesus
as my Savior, living God’s word and
committed to serving others, it feels
GREAT! Last year for Madi’s 15th

birthday, I told her we were going
to pay it forward to three people
(she loved it!). So we went to the
Christian bookstore and purchased
some inspirational wall art and
Starbucks coffee for our local
fire station. In a drive-through at
Starbucks, Madi said “Dad, I want to
pay for the car behind us.” She gets
it ☺ Then we went to the pet store to
purchase pet food to deliver to the
animal shelter.
Now I choose to get involved at
Noblesville First. No more excuses!
I had prayed that God would guide
me, and he did. I am now on church
committees, attend Wired Word
regularly, attend our men’s group
Thoughts on the Rocks, participated
in the Crop Walk, volunteer for
activities, Kid’s Hope program,
etc. This is God’s love! I have a
community and I am “a participator”
not just “a spectator”.
Small groups have become very
important to me. I have other
Christian believers and friends in
my circle and it is awesome! We
consider ourselves brothers and
Ministers of God. We inspire each
other, text each other scriptures/
devotional messages, get together
to talk, be there for each other, pray
for each other and just LISTEN
if needed. I thank Jesus daily for
saving my life, dying for my sins,
showing me forgiveness and loving
me unconditionally. I want to do this
today and all the days of my life.
We, myself included, are all sinners
and undeserving of God’s grace
and forgiveness. But man, walking
through life on earth with God by us,
in us and for us is such a gift and a
blessing! It is more rewarding than
anything we can comprehend. Think
about it—by accepting Jesus Christ
as our Savior we have the best gift
and friend through good days and
bad days. If God is for me, who can
be against me!

We spent some time talking with Jenell
and Tom (as well as Matt) to determine
how to best update the space to be
a worship area for all ages and still
connect with youth as their room.
Who is this service for? Anyone!
If you can’t make it on Sunday, come
join us on Thursday! The church
recognizes that we can’t always be
around on the weekend, and this is
a new chance to worship with the
community at Noblesville First even
when the weekend is not available.
What does this mean for YOU?
If you’re interested in checking out the
service, but ultimately feel you’ll stick
with your current worship service in the
long run you could:
1.Be in prayer for this service and the
people it will reach.
2.Volunteer to come for the first 6-8
weeks of the service to help get us
going.

schedule permits.

Thank you notes
Now that I can partially use my right arm
and hand again, I am able to send my
many, many thanks for the prayers, cards,
prayer shawl, and visits that I received
while in the hospital. It all meant so much
to me. Again, many, many thanks.
I am home, but recovery is not complete
with the arm or the hip yet.

Welcome Jan Howell to the office staff
Jan Howell joined the
office staff last month
as Financial Admin
Assistant. Jan will be
managing contributions
and attendance, as
well as assisting with
the production of each
Sunday’s bulletin.
Jan has been a member
of Noblesville First for many years.
When asked what she loves most
about the congregation, she
commented, “When I walk in the
church, I feel such contentment
and peace that can
only be realized
through love and
acceptance.”
Jan has three children,
two granddaughters
and one very spoiled
fury companion,
Deuce. In her spare
time, Jan enjoys
watching her oldest granddaughter
play basketball in Zionsville and
watching her youngest granddaughter play soccer in Carmel.

Dear FUMC Family,
There are so many people to thank for
the kindness and concern shown me
both during my recent hospital stay as
well as during my recovery time at home.
The prayer and kind words from Pastor
Dick and Carol Miller on their visit at the
hospital gave me a feeling of comfort and
helped put my mind at ease before going
into surgery. Thanks.
The Prayer Quilt given to me by FUMC
is absolutely beautiful. To the wonderful
people that put so much time and effort
into such an intricate gift, I offer my
heartfelt thanks. I will forever cherish this
thoughtful gift.
I deeply appreciate the many cards with
get well wishes and prayers during my
time at home. The meals delivered to our
home were both delicious and a huge
blessing. Don and I are so lucky to be part
of a wonderful church family.
As I strive to resume regular attendance
at church, my goal will be to seek ways I
can share with others in need of the same
kindness and consideration that was
shown to me in my time of need.

Prayer tips

So many verses of the Bible respond to our human
longings for people, things, or just for something in
our lives to be different. Seems we constantly find
discomfort in what we think we need and want, but the
most painful of these imagined needs is that of our single
incompleteness, our feelings that somehow we must
content, complete. Loved. And there is more!
In Psalm 118: 1, we are reminded to show gratitude
to God, but also that we are never incomplete, never
forsaken: “Give thanks to the Lord for He is good; His
loving kindness is everlasting.” Then in verse 24: “This is
