Dear Parents,
CONFIRMATION
Archbishop Denis Hart confirmed the Year 6 students and a small group of children within our Parish, in a reverent and prayerful celebration, at St Patrick’s Cathedral on Sunday. In his homily, the
children were called to deepen their faith each day and to welcome the Holy Spirit into their
hearts. Archbishop Hart ended his homily with this prayer:
Come Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of your faithful and kindle in them the fire of your love.
Thank you Fr Mario, Miss Elizabeth Williamson our Religious Education leader, the Year 5/6 teachers, Mrs Connie
Bandiera, Ms Connie Costa, Miss Stephanie Doutre, Mr Matthew Sortino and Sr Loreto, for preparing the children for this
special Sacrament. Thank you also to Carla P and Erin M (sister of Eadric M 5/6S) for altar serving at the cathedral. It was
a special occasion for the children, their sponsors, families and friends of our community.

A highlight for the football team was the unveiling of our new St John’s football jumper at this week’s assembly. This was
made possible due to the efforts of Angela Di Paola, Jamie’s (Year 5/6) mum. Angela was determined to get the jumpers
in time for the finals. She had no doubt that the team would be in the finals this year and she was right! Thanks Angela!

huge improvements in skill level and teamwork throughout the last 9 weeks of winter Interschool Sport. We have a had a
very successful term with 4 out of our 5 teams, netball A, B, football and boys teeball finishing in the top 4 and making it
through to the semi finals. A big congratulations to the boys teeball and football teams who made it through the term undefeated. Well done to our girls teeball team who showed the most improvements throughout the term and who

Family Mathematics Challenge 13 - Answer
The only way this can happen is if one of the mothers is also a daughter, so really there are only 3
people at the table. Therefore they would all get seven $1 coins.
Family Mathematics Challenge 14
Divide the face of the clock into three parts with two lines so that the sum of the numbers in the three parts are equal.
Record how you do the challenge and then bring it in to school

Staff: Trent Harkom
Hi everyone,
Last week we finished our amazing melted crayon artworks! They’re on display in the room and they honestly look really
fantastic. We also had the children run a cooking activity last week. We let them choose what they wanted to make (rumballs) and had them help each other prepare enough for everyone to eat - it was really awesome.
Please be aware that as our numbers are increasing significantly (particularly on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays) it
is becoming more important for parents to book their children in online or to give more notice for an on the day booking.
This gives us enough time to ensure we are adequately staffed and able to provide a quality program for you and your children.
If your child/ren are absent from school or other arrangements are made for them, could you please let us know that they
won’t be attending afterschool care. On the day cancelations/bookings must be made with a
phone call or text to the program number on 0401 333 932.
You will not be able to make online bookings or cancelations on the day. Online bookings or cancelations can be made up
until midnight the night before.
We hope to see you at OSHClub! Enjoy the rest of your week.

Father Mario’s Sermon
14 June 2015 (Eleventh Sunday during Ordinary Time, Year B)
Ezekiel 17:22-24; Psalm 91:2-3,13-16; 2Corinthians 5:6-10; Mark 4:26-34.
We walk by faith and not by sight!
It is very often our experience that we look up and wonder whether God is really listening to our prayers. At times, especially when things do not go as we would have liked them to, we question: ‘where are you Lord?’ In today’s second reading Paul reminds us that to live our life as humans is to live ‘exiled from the Lord.’ This does not mean that God does not
care about us, but it does mean that most times we struggle to see God’s hand in our daily life. Paul reminds us that we
live by faith and not by sight! Through our limited human senses, we cannot always see God’s work in our own life or in
the world around us; we experience God through our faith.
God called us at birth to grow and develop his own image and likeness within us. Through our Baptism God strengthened
his call to us by filling us with his Holy Spirit; God’s own breath of life within us. Our response to this great invitation and
love of God is to trust him and have faith in him. Yet very often we cannot see God! Some people even express disappointment in the fact that although they try their best to be ‘good’ people, things always seem to go wrong in their life.
In the gospel today Jesus teaches us how to be continuously faithful to God. He tells the crowds two parables: the parable
of the seeds in the field and the parable of the mustard seed. In the first parable the farmer sows the seed and goes. He
trusts that the seed will grow; how he does not know, but he needs to wait and trust in the process of nature. It is useless
for him to stand by, staring at the field to watch the seeds do their work, this will all be done in due time. The Kingdom of
God, God’s life within us and around us, is similar to the seed. Like the farmer our job is simply to sow the seed. We need
to do the work that is assigned to us and to respond to God’s love by allowing his image to develop within us. We are invited to continuously love God and neighbour at each moment of our life. It is not up to us to make the seeds grow, the
land does that of its own accord. God will certainly make his kingdom grow, in God’s own time – which is slightly different
to the way we measure time!
The second parable is similar to the parable of the seed: the mustard seed is a very small seed, yet once it is sown into
the ground, it grows into a large shrub, welcoming all the birds of the air. The word of God can often look like the small
mustard seed. In our day today we often feel that there is no space left for God’s word in our world. God’s word seems so
small that one may often wonder about its effectiveness in our world. Where is God today? Has he abandoned us?
God’s word and our actions of love of God and neighbour may be small and insignificant, but they are powerful because
they are sown in love and in God. It is not our job to make the kingdom grow, our job is to continue tirelessly sowing the
good seeds. It is God’s work, in his own time, to make the tree grow. Through the eyes of our faith we know that our tiny
and insignificant seed will grow into a large shrub, big enough to welcome the birds of the air that come to rest in its
shade.
When we compare this second parable with the first reading in today’s Mass we notice that the birds of the air represent
the nations of the world who will come together as one empire. In the New Testament the Kingdom of God, represented in
a visible way by the Church, is the new empire that welcomes into it all the nations of the world.
Often we look up and ask: ‘When Lord will this come about.’ With a nice smile on his face Jesus replies: ‘Do not worry
about times and seasons; when you have done your work, walk by faith and let me do the rest of the work.’ God needs us
to be faithful, to be faith-filled, giving witness to God’s word. If we continue to walk by faith in this world, we too will get to
see God’s glory!
Let us continue walking in faith even when our sight is blurred!
Fr Mario
