M Social Studies S Sanitasole at Barfield was the place to be, when it hosted the February Marco Chamber of Commerce After Five. Paula Camposano Robinson, co-founder and owner along with her husband Richard Robinson, greeted Chamber members with open arms, cocktails and a lavish buffet prepared by Stonewalls. Entertainment was provided by Sanitasole’s own Music Therapy Director, Craig Greusel, performing on his acoustic guitar. Wissocki MARCO | 40 M Social Studies Bill Dean Hideaway Beach Club started off another year supporting cancer with its Sixth annual Hideaway Beach Cancer Committee Golf Auction. Close to 100 golfers participated, with individual prizes awarded as well as team awards to the top five. The evening concluded with a dinner, followed by live and silent auctions. Founder and organizer Bill Dean, along with the entire committee hoped to raise money for cancer research for the American Cancer Society. Ladies, with a few men interspersed, turned out to show their support for the Marco Healthcare Auxiliary, with proceeds from the event benefitting the Marco Healthcare Center. The event featured a silent auction, raffle and door prizes as well as a presentation of fashions from Rose Marco River Marina, Obsession and Richard’s Reef. Officers of the bridge in full uniform accepted their burgees, or insignias, during the Change of Watch ceremony, a timehonored tradition transferring rights and responsibilities to new club officers. The newly appointed Commodore Frank Rinker took his oath of office from outgoing Commodore Mary Ann (M.A.) Kline. Vicki Bretthauer honored retiring board directors for their service to the club. The sold-out crowd of nearly 150 guests arrived to enjoy cocktails at the Marco Island Historical Museum. Guests also waited in line to shake hands with author Nicholas Sparks. Owner Richard Shanahan graciously supplied complimentary fried chicken, pulled pork and various side dishes, all prepared by Cracklin’ Jacks. The evening entertainment was provided by DJ Steve Reynolds who kept everyone on their toes throughout the evening. Wissocki MARCO | 46 M Social Studies A bespectacled Jeb Bush nearly blushed at the admiration he received from a crowd of about 400 people on Marco Island. Bush, who was the featured speaker at the inaugural Marco Town Hall Speaker Series event held at the Marriot Marco Island Beach Resort, addressed federal policies and agenda in his 45-minute speech, but later dispelled rumors of a presidential run in two years. A VIP reception with a meet-and-greet with the former governor was also held. The seven races, two-day event gave skippers an opportunity for tactical challenges and Gulf thrills. The dinner was followed by awards in all classes including best overall spinnaker to David Huntington on Shock, best overall non-spinnaker to Steve Romaine on Air Supply and best in club to Ed Dixon on Tri-Power. The event helped raise funds for the non-profit organization that grants wishes to special children in Collier and Lee counties. The event featured a fashion show as well as a raffle and silent auction of items donated from Island businesses. Attendees enjoyed a lunch of tossed salad and quiche. Numerous raffle prizes were awarded before the ladies played various card games including Mah Jongg, Bridge and Mexican Train. Incoming president Carolyn Atkins gave a presentation at the luncheon as well.
