atmosphere. As the name suggests,
these taverns can be recognized by a
broomstick hanging next to the front
door. The Upper Rhine Bike Path also

to the Rhine Bike Path. A dip in the
cool waters of the Rhine offers the
perfect respite for bikers in the warm
summer months, and the region’s
thermal baths, indoor waterparks, and
leisure pools provide for a few wellearned hours of relaxation during the

must-see is the impressive town hall.

During WWI, this “Swiss Clock Village
on German Soil” became the starting
point of the Western Front, which
extended over 450 miles all the way
to the North Sea. Pfetterhouse now
belongs to France’s Alsace region.

The Upper Rhine Bike Path is divided into 8 separate bike tours
from the southern Palatinate and
northern Baden across Alsace to
the Basel region, allowing the region and its cuisine to be discovered,
experienced, and enjoyed in parts
and across borders. Comfortable

rest weary heads, and excellent international and local connections
guarantee easy access to every
city listed on each leg of the tour.
The individual bike tours follow
routes that have been specifically
chosen to avoid major roads, but
are well-signposted and primarily run through low-traffic areas.
