Rooted in the Word of God and nourished by the Eucharist, we celebrate the life of our Lord Jesus Christ by proclaiming the Good News and providing spiritual growth, support and service with love. Founded by Italian immigrants a century ago, today our parish continues the tradition of extending a loving, caring and affirming welcome to all who join us as we Continue Our Journey of Faith. HOLY FAMILY WELCOMES YOU Welcome to Holy Family Parish! We hope you experience the warmth and hospitality for which Holy Family is noted. We would like our Worship Community to be the center of your spiritual and emotional journey with Jesus. Peace be with you. Worship with us Embrace our fellowship Learn about our ministries Come join us Offer your talents Make new friends Experience the warmth and hospitality of Holy Family Benvenuti, Maligayang pagdating, Bienvenido, Chao mung, Witamy Walk With Jesus Daily 27th Sunday in Ordinary Time C -2013 My brothers and sisters in the Lord! As we focus on the Gospel message of this day, it echoes the call to remain faithful. This particular section of St. Luke’s Gospel deals with the challenging demands of discipleship. Our Lord calls His disciples to be a people of faith. He goes on to say A Message from Fr. Joe Ferraro that even a small amount of faith is enough to work miracles, to achieve great things. The disciples should also not regard themselves as being owed anything, as if God should thank them for their faith and service, rather they should remember what God has done for them, and that they are the ones who, in fact, owe God for their redemption, their salvation, their new life. The next part of the passage tells the story of Jesus curing ten lepers and only one comes back to thank Jesus. Our Lord invites His disciples to see themselves as that leper, as people who have been healed, reconciled, and gifted by God’s love. If they remember who God is and what God has done for them, then they too will wish to give thanks to God. In the image given today in the Scriptures, the disciples will serve the Lord, not hoping for rewards or thanks, but simply in response to God’s kindness and love for them. My brothers and sisters, as we begin this month of October we honor our Blessed Mother under the title of Our Lady of the Rosary. Let us look to Our Lady in special way during this month as we offer our Rosary to her. Let us reflect on her life as she never gave up in her faith but, rather, always placed her trust in God during the most challenging times in her life. As we journey through life, let us always pray, through her intercession and guidance of the Holy Spirit, to give us the strength we need to journey through the most difficult roads that will lead us closer to the Father. We must always remember that even when life makes us wonder if God is listening at all, those moments when we feel overwhelmed, we need to cling to our faith because it is rooted in God’s prior faithfulness and graciousness to us. Remembering this is what enables us to live by faith, even in the face of those difficult times when we feel that God has abandoned us. It is that special perseverance of our faith that will allow us to move those mountains out of our way in order to over come the obstacles of life. Today is also a day to say “thank you” to the many special people in our parish for volunteering their Time, Talent and Treasure of their hearts for the honor and glory of God. We thank all those “behind the scenes” people who never feel acknowledged. By saying thank you to our volunteers, we are also thanking God for the special gifts bestowed on us through those God-given Talents shared within our community. I thank you all for your patience with me as I serve you during Msgr. Paul’s absence at Holy Family as I also continue to serve to the needs of St. Anthony. Mille Grazie, Maraming Salamat, Thank you! NOMINATION FOR STEWARD OF THE MONTH When deciding to nominate a person for the Steward of the Month Award, we should consider the following: The TIME that this person dedicates to parish activities, community events, personal time with others in need of assistance, spiritual aid and/or companionship. The TALENT that this person offers to the parish and community, willingly and lovingly. The TREASURE this person offers to the parish and community. Has he or she accepted the divine call to extend God’s blessings on those less fortunate through personal sacrificial giving? These are important factors to consider when proposing a person for nomination. Often a prayer to the Holy Spirit is helpful, too, in discerning the name for nomination. Please fill out the nomination form and return it in an envelope marked “Stewardship Committee” to nominate a parishioner as Steward of the Month. ✄------------------------------------------------------------------------NOMINATION AS STEWARD OF THE MONTH Nominated Parishioner: _______________________________ Submitted by: _______________________________________ Evening Phone No.: __________________________________ Reasons for the nomination (specifically and detailed as possible, use extra paper, if necessary): ___________________________________________________ ___________________________________________________ ___________________________________________________ ___________________________________________________ ___________________________________________________ ___________________________________________________ ___________________________________________________ ___________________________________________________ ___________________________________________________ ___________________________________________________ Saint Dominic Academy, Jersey City A Beefsteak Dinner & Comedy Show: Friday, October 25, 2013 from 7:00 – 11:00 p.m. $60 includes an “all you can eat” hand-sliced Filet Mignon on toasted French bread, pasta, golden French fries, salad, beer, wine, soda, coffee and dessert.
