Orange Beach Load is served from the Romar,
Water Tower, & Florida Avenue Substations
A single point of failure along the transmission
system would cause multiple outages with potential
long restoration time
This loss of load due to a single contingency is
unacceptable to PowerSouth

Directional Bore from Florida Avenue Substation to
Sapling Point approximately 120 below the
Intracoastal Waterway
Bore would travel between two city buildings at a
depth of over 110 below ground surface.
New Transmission Line would be encased in 36
steel pipe.
Construction

HDD Contract Underway – Southeast Directional Drilling
Began November, 2011.
Complete May, 2012.

Contractor plans 10-12 hour workdays beginning at 7 am.
• 
Begin installation of 60 Carrier Casing underneath Florida
Avenue Substation November 28th. Should take 5-7 days.
• 
Sent Request for Exception to Noise Ordinance 11-23-11.
