Boltz Middle School Boltz Middle School Newsletter
Boltz Middle School September 2013 Newsletter Dear Parent or Guardian of Boltz Middle School Student: We are off and running! The 2013-2014 school year is off to a wonderful start. All of our students have learned about the guidelines for behavior and academic expectations. Most have mastered their lockers and are busy organizing their AVID binders. We discussed cafeteria rules and practiced emergency procedures. Mrs. Huerta-Kelly and I are in the process of meeting with each team of students to talk about what they can expect from us and what we expect from them. We continue to be impressed by our students both on and off campus by the good character traits they demonstrate. During the week of September 9th, we will celebrate Back to Boltz Week. Please watch our website for details on events. The family barbeque is on Wednesday, September 11 th at 6:00 p.m. This event always proves to be one of the highlights of the school year. We enjoy eating dinner with our families and getting to know the Boltz community better. Our sixth grade students will head off to Camp Timberline during the week of September 16. Due to high enrolment at the sixth grade, we are taking two groups this year. This will allow for more manageable numbers when scheduling meals and workshops. You should have received paperwork at the camp meeting that was recently held. If you were unable to attend the meeting, please remind your child to bring home the necessary paperwork for Camp Timberline. Advertising in this newsletter does not imply endorsement by Poudre School District. I am very excited about our first Boltz Middle School Math Night! On Tuesday, September 17 th, the math department is hosting an evening of fun and games for families. That’s right. This is a family event! The evening is sure to provide you with many laughs and memorable moments spent with your child. I want to remind you that we will be practicing emergency drills throughout the school year. Your child’s safety is of the utmost importance to me. Thank you for the smooth flow of traffic in the drop off lane. We appreciate you pulling forward and making sure that you are not dropping your child off in the outside lane. As the school year progresses, we encourage you to be proactive around questions and concerns you may have. Please communicate with teachers and administration early, if problems arise. You can find email addresses and phone numbers on our website. Don’t forget to sign up for email alerts at: http://eweb.psdschools.org/emailsubscription/. Boltz Junior High School was well under construction and scheduled to open its doors for the beginning of the 1972-73 school term. Just prior to opening, however, a fire ravaged the facility. Determined crews immediately set about rebuilding the structure from the ashes up, and the school opened January 29, 1973. Accordingly, we chose the Phoenix for our school mascot. A beautiful Greek myth parallels Boltz's early fate. Legend had it that the phoenix, a brilliant reddish and gold bird, was the only one of its species. It lived a regular life for 500 years, at the end of which time it burned itself on a funeral pyre. From the ashes rose another Phoenix, one of renewed youth and beauty. Boltz is today a school with great pride in our heritage, abundant and energetic young people, and dedicated staff. Our pride is reflected in the red and gold colors of that majestic bird that has become our symbol -- therefore we are...the Boltz Phoenix. ParentVUE is replacing Student Snapshot and Pinnacle Internet Viewer (PIV). The new application will allow access to school information, student information, verification of contact information and more. Schools have been in the process of verifying parent/guardians for each student who have educational rights (the right to view confidential student information). Once this verification is complete and entered into our new student information system, those parent/guardian(s) will receive an email to the primary email address indicated on your student profile/ verification and stored in Synergy. The email will contain instructions on how to access ParentVUE including the required user activation code. Note you only have to complete the activation process once. However if you have more than one child you will not have access to view his/her information until Ed Rights is indicated for that child and the information is entered by that school. It is possible that you may see one child and no other sibling(s), especially if he/she attends different schools. Thank you for your patience and understanding as our IT department and schools work to implement this new system. We know that while the transition is a challenge, the new system will enable our staff to serve students more effectively and efficiently. For additional information please go to the Parents page on the PSD website. http://www.psdschools.org/ parents. If you have any issues activating your account please contact your child’s school. Hi! I’m Mrs. McGrew, and I have sponsored tours for students for the past three years to Germany and other countries in Europe. We have seen such sites as Berlin, Dresden, Nuremberg, Munich, Rothenburg, Neuschwanstein, Salzbrug, Vienna, Lucerne, and Heidelberg. Without a doubt, students who have joined me in this journey have created memories that we will remember for many years. This year I will work with EF Tours and we will travel to Germany, Austria, and Switzerland. I have done this tour once before, and it is incredible! If you are curious about such a travel opportunity for your child, please plan to attend an informative meeting this Monday evening, September 16th , 7 p.m. in room 3 (Mrs. McGrew’s room). That is right next to the library. I invite students to attend so that they can view the presentation. If you have further questions, contact Frau McGrew at 472-3754 or email her at [email protected].
