Glorifying God
I want to take the next several newsletters to expand upon our new mission
statement which hopefully all of you know by now. The statement is “Glorifying
God by multiplying faithful followers of Jesus Christ.”
The word “glorify” in the Old Testament came from a word that means
“weighty.” If something was weighty it was thought to be valuable. The idea of
brightness or splendor was also used in connection with the word “glorify.” To
glorify God means to please Him or honor Him. Our lives have been designed by
God to bring glory to Him. As believers, our ultimate goal should be to glorify
God in all that we do, in all that we say, and in all that we think. Our actions,
reactions, and interactions with others should bring God pleasure. We don’t live
for our own gain but for His glory!
As a church we long to live for the glory of God. We want His name and His
fame to be made known in our church, community, country, and around the
world. We do not exist for ourselves or even for others as much as for the glory
of God. Living for the glory of God means that we are most concerned about
pleasing God. We are not trying to please people but God.
One of the ways we glorify God is by obeying Him. The Great Commission is at
the heart of our mission statement. We know God is glorified when we obey His
command to make disciples of all nations. We will talk about that more next
time!

Other: hard candy and lollipops, mints, gum (please place all candy in Ziploc bag),
t-shirts, socks, ball caps, sunglasses, hair clips, toy jewelry, watches, flashlight, (with
extra batteries), etc.
A Personal Note: You may enclose a note to the child and a photo of yourself or
your family. (If you include your name and address, the child may write back.)

Let’s Talk about How To Share Christ More Effectively
Operation Shoebox
“In the hands of local churches, every gift-filled shoebox is a powerful tool for
evangelism and discipleship—transforming the lives of children and their
families around the world through the Good News of Jesus Christ.”
CrossPointe is participating in the Operation Christmas Child shoebox ministry. Last
year CrossPointe sent out over 120 packed shoeboxes!!!!! This is a wonderful
opportunity to bring joy, hope, and laughter to needy children each year across the
world by packing shoe boxes filled with simple gifts.
“More than that, each box brings the true meaning of Christmas – God’s gift to
mankind, the birth of His Son,
Jesus Christ.”
As shoebox gifts are distributed, local pastors or church leaders present the Gospel in a
fun way designed for kids while family and friends listen in. Along with their shoebox
gift, children also receive The Greatest Gift, a colorful presentation of the Gospel in
their own language.
Crosspointe has many people who share their faith with others,
sometimes resulting in new believers. We rejoice at that and want to see
much more of it. We are interested to know how you’re witnessing and/or
what ideas you have for encouraging and helping others at Crosspointe to
witness also.
On Sunday, October 9th from 4:30 to 6:00 pm we will have an
Evangelism Forum open to all. We will make a brief presentation, then we
will ask for your feedback and ideas. We want to hear what you’re doing,
what you’ve heard is working, and what you think we should try. There will
be some attention to what the church can do in terms of programs or events,
but we intend to mostly focus on what we as individual believers can do. The
goal is to leave the meeting with lots of ideas that will help our planning,
training, and encouraging of witnessing in the months that follow.
In our Elders meetings we are addressing many issues, but we keep
coming back to evangelism as an essential purpose and function that we must
evaluate and pursue. Your participation in this forum will help us in that
ongoing, never-ending focus. I hope to see you October 9th in Rooms
304/305.
How to Get Started:
*Boxes will be available in the foyer (or you may purchase a similarly sized clear plastic box
with lid)
* Decide whether your shoebox will be for a boy or girl and choose an age category
(ages 2 – 14
*Fill it with simple appropriate gifts (see list below to get started)
*Include $7 in the shoebox to help cover the cost of shipping and other expenses (or
give on-line)
CrossPointe’s Operation Christmas Child Kick-off Sunday will be October 16. A table
with all the information you need will be available in the church foyer. Filled shoe
boxes may be brought to the church from Sunday, October 30 until Sunday,
November 20 when we will dedicate our boxes to the Lord during both services. The
boxes will then be taken to a local collection site.

Hello Everyone,
My name is James Smith and I am the new Senior Adult Pastor. I look forward
to getting to know every Senior here at Crosspointe in the weeks ahead, and
being available to you when needs arise. I would like to announce two
upcoming events for you to consider attending.
On October the 8th Crosspointe Seniors are going to Multnomah Falls and
Bonneville Dam and having lunch together. It promises to be a great time of
fellowship and fun. If you want to go just let me know in person or send a note
to [email protected]. We will be leaving the church at 9:00 AM.
Also on October the 24th - 26th there is a Senior Adult Retreat at Cannon
Beach Conference Center. This is sponsored by the Northwest Baptist
Convention and open to all Seniors. I will have info available or contact
Marsha Gray at 360-882-2102 or [email protected]. There is a cost
involved which covers breakfast, dinner, lodging and the conference.

October is Global Hunger Relief month. On Sunday, October 9th,
brothers and sisters around the world will spend time in special prayer
to intercede for those facing chronic poverty and hunger, and for
missionaries and volunteers fighting to alleviate that suffering.
Please join in prayer that day.
If you would like to give financially, mark “Global Hunger Relief” on
your check or offering envelope. 100% of the money given through
churches goes to feed the hungry.

Hey everyone!
As your new Children’s Ministry Director, I wanted to give you all a brief
update about some of the great things that are currently happening in our
Preschool and Children’s Departments. Starting the first Sunday in September
we were able to restart our KidsPointe Worship during the 9:15 hour thanks
to leaders Debbie Hensley and Mike Tabor. We are also thankful to have been
able to restart a 3-4 year old Sunday School class led by teachers Greg and
Denise Harvey, with Shanon and Kristi Ryan taking over as teachers for the
2nd/3rd grade class. The Kidspointe Wednesday evening class, led by Monte
and Yana McGary, has resumed for the Fall, along with our Wednesday night
Adult Life Groups. I am so thankful for all of these people (and everyone else
not listed!) for their willingness to serve our children and to encourage them
in their relationships with Christ.
Also, this month we are planning on having a Trunk or Treat Festival here at
the church on Halloween, Monday, October 31 at 6:30pm. We are going to do
things a little differently than in the past. We are looking for at least 10-15
people/families who would be interested in setting up a themed booth inside
of the church for kids to go around and get candy/treats. For example, one
person/family might sign up to do a Seahawks themed booth and another
person/family might do an “Over the Rainbow” theme. The person/family
with the best decorated booth (voted on by the kids) will receive a prize. We
are also going to be providing a FREE hot dog and chips dinner to families. It’s
going to be a great time, so please come and invite your neighbors to come
with you!
I am so grateful for the great things that are happening in our Children’s
Ministry. Our kids are given to us by God to teach and raise up in His love and
truth, and I pray that we will all be good stewards of what He has given us. As
C.S. Lewis wrote, “Children are not a distraction from more important work.
They are the most important work.”

By being part of a Southern Baptist church, we all get to join some huge missions
and service efforts. Baptists combine resources and cooperate together in order
to confront major world problems and share the Good News of salvation and
reconciliation with God through Christ. It is encouraging and exciting to be
involved in a truly global mission.
One of the issues that Baptists tackle together is world hunger. Almost 800
million people around the world live with regular hunger. But instead of focusing
on the overwhelming size of that number, our churches are working to make a
difference in the name of Jesus. As Russell Moore, head of our denomination's
Ethics & Religious Liberty Commission, has said, "In the New Testament, James
warns us that a faith without works is a dead faith. 'If a brother or sister is poorly
clothed or lacking in daily food, and one of you says to them, 'Go in peace, be
warmed and filled,' without giving them the things needed for the body, what
good is that?' (James 2:15) Words, even spiritual sounding words, aren't enough.
The gospel compels us to practical acts of mercy."

from other believers. God has directed us to feed the hungry. We have the
beautiful opportunity to obey and then to watch as God works.

Thank you all for your prayers as we began a new term with the Stay & Play
group. We had a quiet start, as our opening date landed on Eid, but it was
good to go ahead and start. By the second week we had eleven ladies and
fourteen children attending. I am heading to the USA to see all of you midNovember, please pray for more people to co-labor with us. Many interns with
another organization will be leaving at the start of November as well. Pray that
as stories are shared from the beginning of the Word this month, they are
falling on good soil, that families will come to faith in Jesus and claim that He is
the only Way, Truth and Life.
Ladies Night Out
Monday, October 17th, 6:30 PM
Join us for good food and great fellowship as we meet for dinner at
different local restaurants. This month’s location is
La Costa Mexican Restaurant (4708 NE Thurston Way. Over by the
Vancouver Mall). Come prepared to meet and get acquainted with
other Crosspointe ladies. This is a terrific opportunity to invite a

many ladies are coming!

Thank you to those who have been praying for my health, I’m doing much
better and have got some updates from my mom with some family history and
some medicine from the doctor to help me in the future. One thing I ask, is
that I am in a season where I have insomnia. Pray this gets righted soon.

The ladies who have come to faith are starting to meet with our teammate for
discipleship with the hope that they will be pillars of a church plant one day.
Pray that they are strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus, and they will be
reliable women who will then teach others. (2 Timothy 2: 1-2)
Pray for unity among believers here in the UK, pray that the church will look to
the Bible as truth, not a story. Pray for revival. Pray that we will see our ever
present need of our Savior and share His grace and His plan for His creation
(men & women) to be in a restored relationship with Him, through Jesus
Christ.
Pray for wisdom and discernment and that my confidence in leading our team
will come from HIM, not my own human strength or wisdom.

What does it mean to be a citizen of the kingdom of Heaven?
The Sermon on the Mount articulates what the life of a Christ
follower should look like, asking us the same questions it posed

In this 9-session study, examine the words of Jesus in-depth as
He challenges us to think differently about repentance,

prayer support, as well as encouragement. An especially important

Ministry of the Month
“Women’s Ministry”
Our Women’s Ministry is led by Sonya Fitzpatrick and a group of ladies who
meet regularly with her to pray and plan ways to connect women to the Lord
and to each other. Some upcoming opportunities include:
 Operation Christmas Child - October and November
 Chonda Pierce outing in October
 Ladies Night Out in October
 On-going Life Groups for ladies
Elder and Deacon Recommendations
We want to add two new elders and deacons this year. We would like your
input in selecting them. Deacons are a service-oriented team of godly men
who take care of practical needs in the church body. Current deacons include
Jose Alvarez, Lou Blakeslee, Brian Dalgardno, Matt Dela Vega, Dave Jones, and
Bob Story. Elders form a pastoral team with Pastor Jim and focus
on leadership in the church. Current elders are Mark Bradley, Steve Hensley,
and James Smith. Please read 1 Timothy 3 for the qualifications of church
leaders and submit any names of men that you feel would serve us well in
these areas. You can submit them on your Connection Cards in worship, in
your Life Groups, or by emailing Pastor Jim at [email protected].
Evangelism Forum
What? We’ll brainstorm ideas to increase our witnessing and improve our
evangelistic effectiveness.
Why? So many reasons! Come and hear (and share) biblical reasons.

Bring Your Friends to Church Day
Sunday October 23
Do you have friends and family members who are not yet followers of
Christ? Would you want them to hear a clear and simple explanation of the
gospel? If so, invite them to Crosspointe on October 23rd. Pastor Jim will be
sharing a simple message from Ephesians 2:8-10. People will learn that the
gospel is not about trying to be good, go to church, or trying really hard to be
religious. Take a business card from the guest services area and invite several
friends to Crosspointe on the 23rd. It could be life changing for them!
Two New Life Groups
We have a new Life Group meeting at Mark and Joy Bradley’s house on
the second and fourth Thursdays of each month at 7:00 PM (16102 NE
79th Way, Vancouver, WA 98682). They are beginning with a study of
Philemon and begin longer studies as the group becomes more
established. If you’re looking for a quality Life Group that meets
mid-week, this one’s a great option for you! For more information,

On October 2nd, Ernie and Vikki Kaps are launching a new Life Group that
will meet every other Sunday night at 7:00 PM. It will be hosted at the
Wimmers’ home ( 1719 NW 110th Ave, Vancouver, WA 98685) and will
focus on taking the Pastor’s sermon and applying it to our lives
