The Udder Mudder Event, a family-friendly mud obstacle challenge for the whole family, is one of Central Wisconsin’s best kept secrets! In the event’s 2nd year, the Wolf family at Memory Lane Farm of Marshfield has again opened up their scenic farm to support local charities (Ministry St. Joseph’s Children’s Miracle Network and the Hannah Center) to help promote healthy children and families in our community. The “Udder Mudder” and “Lil’ Piggy Plunge” will be held on Saturday, September 20, 2014. Participants are encouraged to register quickly, as in its first year, it sold out with nearly 900 participants. In addition, there were hundreds of spectators and volunteers. In its first year, the event raised $10,000 to benefit Children’s Miracle Network. The Udder Mudder, a 5K mud obstacle challenge, is designed for all abilities and ages 10 – 120! The challenging, yet fun course consists of wooded trails, hills, swamp and plenty of other farm related obstacles mixed in with plenty of mud! Here are just few reasons your company should consider being part of the Youth Apprenticeship program. • Shape the quality of your future workforce • Access a pipeline of skilled employees • Recruit potential employees • Build greater employee loyalty and lower turnover • Create positive PR by helping youth with employment and education So what is a Youth Apprenticeship anyway and what are my responsibilities as an employer? Well, Youth Apprenticeship (YA) integrates school-based and work-based learning to instruct students in employability and occupational skills defined by Wisconsin industries. Local programs provide training based on statewide youth apprenticeship curriculum guidelines, endorsed by business and industry. Students are instructed by qualified teachers and skilled worksite mentors. Students are simultaneously enrolled in academic classes to meet high school graduation requirements, in a youth apprenticeship related instruction class, and are employed by a participating employer under the supervision of a skilled mentor. The following is a partial list of employer responsibilities. • Interview and hire YA student(s) • Provide on the job training to YA student(s) • Pay YA student(s) • Participate in regular Progress Reviews • Ensure 450 hours per year of worksite training/work hours • Comply with child labor laws As you can see, the opportunity to help mold your future workforce requires minimal commitment with outstanding results! For more information on hiring a Youth Apprentice, contact Kim Mueller at the Marshfield Chamber Foundation at 715-384-3454.
