Moderne design hos Bruun Rasmussen
Markedet for moderne kunst
Modern Design at Bruun Rasmussen
This catalogue reflects the changes we are making to address the Modern Art market, which is in
constant motion. Our aim is to anticipate the market’s developments and fluctuations closely for
the benefit of both buyers and sellers. Recognising that increasing globalisation is also characterizing
the art market, we have chosen for the first time to publish our catalogue in English. We hope this
initiative will be well received, but realize that many of you might still want the Danish text which
can be found at www.bruun-rasmussen.dk.
For many years, the Modern Art and Design Sales at Bruun Rasmussen have been held in April and
in October. The introduction of an additional Modern Art and Design auction in June will bring the
total number of annual Modern auctions to three, an acknowledgement of the current prosperous
market for Modern Art.
As always, our Modern auction will feature an impressive array of Modern Furniture, Design and
Decorative Art. The Furniture section focuses on the theme “Crafted – Four Decades of Dedication,” and features handcrafted items from the important period in the history of Danish cabinet
making, 1927 to1966. The selection includes an exceptional interior setting by Finn Juhl from 1941,
appearing at auction for the first time; a unique funny cabinet also by Finn Juhl; and various handcrafted unique pieces from early Modernist architects such as Magnus Stephensen, Frits Schlegel
and Tyge Hvass. These early, almost “pre-modern,” items are accompanied by many of the wellknown and highly coveted models by Frits Henningsen, Ole Wanscher and Kaare Klint.
The Silver section includes an elegant, Art Deco, three-piece sterling silver tea set designed by Svend
Weihrauch and executed by Frantz Hingelberg’s workshop in1937. We are also pleased to offer two
large and extensive sets of flatware in the stylish “Bernadotte” pattern from Georg Jensen.
The Decorative Art section offers a variety of fine ceramics, glass and metalware. One of the highlights is the monumental bronze lid vase, by Kresten Bloch and Knud Andersen, with its attractive
“sang de boeuf” glaze. Another impressive piece is the stunning “sung” glaze vase made by Carl
Halier, with fitted lid and stand in bronze by Knud Andersen. Finally, Axel Salto is represented with
a selection of his ceramics, most notably a superb “sprouting style” stoneware vase, with a compelling
“butterfly-wing” glaze.
We hope you will enjoy the catalogue!

Gustaf Axel Berg was active as a furniture designer in
the years around 1940. He participated in the New
York 1939 World Exhibition and here helped establish
the concept of "Swedish Modern". This chair was presented in 1940 at the "Vår bostad" exhibition held at
the Röhska Museum of Decorative Art in Gothenburg.
Later it was shown at the 1943 "Svensk Form " exhibiton held at the Danish Museum of Decorative Art in
Copenhagen. Here G. A. Berg presented a "workgroup"
consisting of a table, lamp and this chair. In an article
in "Nyt Tidskrift for Kunstindustri" from 1943 he himself describes the group like this: "My idea and purpose
with the group was a working environment for a restless, hyperintellectual chief-executive with representative duties. A creative, sensitive personality, who´s
thoughts pour out, sparkling as a Northland- river in
the spring. But a man,who knows the art of shaping his
thoughts and dressing them with the proper language,
while they turn into words. He dictates to his secretary
and as such he has no need for a real desk.
The Work Chair is for such an executive.".

A pair of easychairs with frame of steambended beech.
Seat with loose cushion and cane underneath.
Sculpturally shaped back with buttons and edgings
of natural leather. Back and cushion upholstered
with light grey wool. designed 1932. Manufactured
by Fritz Hansen. Partial paperlabel placed under seat
of one chair. (2).
Magnus L. Stephensen belongs to a circle of architects
who in the 1930s were formative in creating a new
modern aesthetics in Danish architecture. This included
his friends and partners Mogens & Flemming Lassen,
Frits Schlegel, and Vilhelm Lauritsen. This chair is the
more sculptural elaborate version of two variations on
the same basic model that Stephensen designed 1932
for Fritz Hansen. Here he utilized the traditional skill of
steambending, that had been the companys trademark
since its formation and combined it with a modern
functional design. The characteristic sculptured wingback was employed by Stephensen as early as 1930
when exhibited together with cabinetmaker Axel Søllner at the Cabinetmakers Exhibition and as late as
1963, when he did a variation in leather and mahogany
very similar to this chair, that was only made in two
pieces by cabinetmaker Ludvig Pontoppidan.

Crafted - Four Decades of Dedication
Works by Danish Cabinetmakers 1927-1966
During the last ten years, we have seen a constantly
growing interest in vintage Danish modern furniture.
From an early feeble start, the market has grown to its
select well-informed state of today, with a tremendous
demand for Danish modern classics. “What will be
next” is a question often asked. Or: “Which young designer will be the Hans Wegner or the Arne Jacobsen of
tomorrow? We guess the real question is whether there
could be a new “golden age” of Danish furniture any
time soon?
Predicting the future is at best extremely difficult, but
it seems more than likely that the answer is no! The
success of Danish furniture design, culminating around
1950-60 should be seen as a window of opportunity in
history - a rare period in time when a receptive international audience looking for something new coincided with conditions in Denmark in which the country,
more less untouched by war, had a small-sized industry
and a pool of skilled workers and craftsmen available.
Furthermore, in the 1920-30s a theoretical foundation
had been laid in Denmark under the guidance of Kaare
Klint. This was a school of functional needs devoted to
perfect craftsmanship, and it was this tradition that
pervaded an entire generation of architects graduating
from the School of Furniture at the Royal Academy of
Arts. Many of these architects would remain ardent
proponents of Klint's ideas, others would oppose them,
but the emphasis on craftsmanship was inherent in
them all.
Today, in the world of IKEA with new technologies and
thousands of different materials available it is clear
that the notion of modernization coming from traditional craftsmanship and the use of traditional wood
materials was already an anachronism at its inception,
one condemned to a fleeting existence.
But even accepting this fact, what was it that made
Danish furniture design so successful and special? The
best answer is: The recurring annual exhibitions by the
Cabinetmakers' Guild of Copenhagen, which started in
1927 and went on until 1966. No other event is anywhere near as significant to the development of contemporary furniture design in Denmark.
Back in 1927, when Danish furniture production was at
a low ebb in terms of quality and renewal, the exhibitions got off to a modest start. Focus was primarily on
offering the participating cabinetmakers a chance to
sell their pieces. But it soon became clear to the Cabinetmakers that they needed to do something new if
they were to attract public interest. And what was
BRUUN RASMUSSEN BREDGADE AUCTION 772
“new” was the collaboration between architect and
craftsman. The architects brought with them an understanding of the kind of furniture modern life required,
while the cabinetmakers blew the life and pride inherent in craftsmanship into those pieces.
Over the years architects and cabinetmakers would
form regular partnerships, which would last for decades and which became one of the defining characteristics of the exhibitions. The best known examples are
Kaare Klint & Rud. Rasmussen, Ole Wanscher & A.J.
Iversen, Hans Wegner & Johannes Hansen, and Finn
Juhl & Niels Vodder. Some cabinetmakers, such as Peder Moos and Jacob Kjær, continued to design their own
pieces with other architects participating occasionally
and working with various cabinetmakers. But it is telling that all Danish furniture designers of any importance in the period between 1927 and 1966 did at
some point participate in the exhibitions.
By the 1950s the exhibitions had developed into the
“Fashion Week” of Danish Furniture, a place where new
ideas were presented, ideas that would be modified
and trickle down into mass production at furniture factories, thus influencing the way thousands and thousands lived.
At this point, in general the cabinetmakers were still
able to sell their costly handcrafted pieces, and the
market sustained an entire industry of cabinetmakers.
However, as the 1960s passed, the inherent anachronism of trying to produce in quantity by hand became
more and more obvious as the cost of labour rose and
furniture factories were able to produce their wares
ever more inexpensively. It gradually became impossible to sell handcrafted pieces in any great numbers.
Some workshops closed or scaled down operations. A
few tried to buck the trend by rationalising production
while still insisting on craftsmanship, but in the 1980s
most ceased to exist. Today Rud. Rasmussen is the only
workshop from the Golden Age still in operation.
But the legacy remains with us and we are pleased to
present a selection of pieces from this period.
As the former rector of the Danish School of Design, the
architect Viggo Steen Møller wrote in 1966 about cabinet making: “Wood is a lovely material, but great care
must be shown in the use of it. The happiness it brings
to us in the shape of practical and aesthetically outstanding products from the hands of the artisan is a
happiness full of optimism”.

A life with Finn Juhls Furniture
From the Home of Henrik and Kirsten Ravn
It is always a privilege to be able to offer a complete Finn Juhl
interior at auction. However the history of the furniture deriving
from Kirsten and Henrik Ravn’s home include not only a number
of unique and - up to now - unknown Finn Juhl models, they are
also of so early date that this sheds new light on the development of Finn Juhl’s work.
Mr Ravn and his wife commissioned Finn Juhl to decorate their
home on three occassions.
The first time was in 1941 when he moved into an appartment
on the bank of the lake Sortedamssøen.
The second time was in 1947 when they moved to a bigger
appartment also on the bank of Sortedamssøen.
The last time was in 1954 when they moved to a House in
Lyngby. A house similiar to Finn Juhls own house and situated
only a short distance away.

Finn Juhl designed a number of furniturepieces in 1941 for the
first appartment on Sortedamsdosseringen. The pieces were all
made by cabinetmaker Niels Vodder. He did however include
pieces in the interior by others, such as the easychair of cane
by Viggo Boesen, and what he described as “standard”
sidechairs from Fritz Hansen.

When the Ravn family moved to a bigger appartment in
1947,also on Sortedamsdosseringen, Finn Juhl again designed
pieces that were made by Niels Vodder. But for this interior he
included some standard models manufactured by Bovirke.

The sideboard was made for Mr

path that Finn Juhl would follow in subsequent years. The choice
of combining Cuban mahogany with Oregon pine is much favoured by Finn juhl at this early stage in his career. Both this sideboard
and the diningtable from the Ravn residence, also offered in this
sale, are so like the table and sidetable he later designed for the
Copenhagen Cabinetmakers Guild Exhibition in 1944, that they
must be seen as variations on a theme initiated with the present
table and sideboard. The same can be said with the much publicized sideboard by Niels Vodder, he designed 1949.

The "Place setting Table" was designed for the Bing &
Groendahl store on Amagertorv in Copenhagen in
1947. It was Finn Juhl´s first major interior design of a
public space. This table is one of two similar tables
made and was used in the big hall of the showroom facing the street Amagertorv. In an article printed in a
special issue of the magazine "Arkitekten" - The
Architecht - from 1947, Finn Juhl himself explains the
construction like this: "Place-setting table" from the
big hall. The curving shape of the rail allows for high
joints and at the same time makes the table light. The
top has been profiled very thin towards the edge
because the horizontal level is its real function. Made
of teak."

Frits Schlegel stands as an
architect as one of the
most important forces behind the 1930s and postwar modernism in Denmark. His main contribution was in the field of
building construction were some of his best known works are the governmnet
offices of "Overformynderiet", the concert hall at Tivoli
garden and a number of buildings for the Zoo in Copenhagen. He did however also design a number of important pieces of furniture, often as part of a project.
This unique cabinet was made for Mr. Axel Nielsen,
BRUUN RASMUSSEN BREDGADE AUCTION 772
engineer and co-owner of Larsen & Nielsen engineers
& contractors Inc., which had an extensive cooperation with Schlegel. The cabinet was used in his private
home on Drosselvej 72 in Frederiksberg. Vibeke Anderson Møller writes in her biography about Schlegels
furniture "Of the many pieces of furniture which
Schlegel all through his life designed for individual
houses, only a tiny part are preserved or known today"
and : "Characteristic for these were the more expensive types of wood".

MOGENS LASSEN AND
MAGNUS L. STEPHENSEN
Unique tobacco cabinet of Cuban mahogany
mounted on frame with round legs. Body of cabinet
with tambour shutter. designed 1937. Made in 1937
by A. J. Iversen, Cabinetmakers, Copenhagen.
H. 65. L. 52. B. 37 cm.
The cabinet, which has clear similarities to a small
desk designed by Magnus Stephensen in 1937 for Cabinetmaker A. J. Iversen for the Cabinetmakers Exhibtion that same year, is probably the result of a collaboration between Lassen and Stephensen who worked
together on several projects at that time. The cabinet
comes with a funny story: When A. J. Iversen presented
at the 1937 Paris World Exhibtion he was initially "only" awarded a Gold Medal. This was a small catastrophe for the young and very ambitious Iversen. He
complained his misery to the influential editor and critic of decorative art Hakon Stephensen who managed
to persuade the Jury to grant Iversen the "Grand Prix".
82
In gratitude Iversen gave this cabinet to Hakon Stephensen.
Exhibited: "Danish Art of Cabinetmaking", Kronborg,
Elsinore. 10/13-2000 to 12/3-2000.
Provenance: Peter Stephensen son of Hakon Stephensen.

B RUUN R ASMUSSEN K UNSTAUKTIONER
strategier for indkøb. Tøjner er
meget stolt af museets samling, og
også udlandet anerkender den som
værende i international klasse.
væsentlig rolle for Knud W. Jensen,
”Man må
gå ind i Knuds hoved for at forstå
det med arkitekturen. Knud var besat
af at lave prægnante rammer for
aktiviteterne. Det var på det punkt,
at han forsøgte at perfektionere sit
engagement.
lykkedes ganske godt.
”Kunsten ned i øjenhøjde”
menneskelige skala under devisen
”Larger than anything”.
huse, man gerne vil bo i”.
”Den arkitektoniske mission på
Louisiana er, at der skal være en
form for genkendelighed. Jeg ser
det næsten som et socialt projekt
at få kunsten ned i øjenhøjde og
sekularisere bygningerne.
ind i landskabet, således at man
f.eks. udnytter et naturligt fald eller
en naturlig stigning”, påpeger Tøjner.
”Man skal hele tiden
rundt om det næste hjørne”
Et andet væsentligt arkitektonisk
princip på museet er relateret til
det faktum, at museet er ”et gå
museum” frem for et glanemuseum. Man skal bevæge sig for at se
tingene.

punktet for udarbejdelse af kataloget.
For the conversion from DKK into Euro,
Bruun Rasmussen has used the official rate
of exchange from Denmarks Nationalbank
(the Danish National Bank) at the time of
preparation of the catalogue.
beløbet i DKK.
The amount in Euro is, in Bruun Rasmussen's judgment, roughly adjusted to
presentable figures.

1. januar 1995 trådte nye love i kraft i EU vedrørende

As of 1 January 1995 new EC regulations came into
effect regarding the sale of secondhand goods, works of
art, collector’s items and antiques; these items may now
be traded under the Auctioneers’ Margin Scheme.

§ 1. Budgivning
varen købes i fuld moms.
For visse udenlandske købere gælder der særlige regler for
afgiftsfritagelse jvf. § 3.
at overstige forfalden gæld.
174
§ 3. Afgiftsfritagelse
§ 4. Afgiftsbetaling

fremsættes skriftligt over for Bruun Rasmussen inden 2 år efter

FRITAGELSE FOR DANSK FULDMOMS

§ 1. Bidding
The buyer shall be the highest bidder at the “hammer price”. Any
person bidding on behalf of a third party shall be liable in surety
for completion of the sale.
At the request of Bruun Rasmussen Kunstauktioner (hereinafter
called Bruun Rasmussen), all bidders, whether they wish to make
bids in person at the place of auction or commission bids by letter or fax or direct telephone bids, should be able to document
their ability to pay and be able to provide proof of identity at
any time. Bruun Rasmussen is entitled to refuse to accept a bid
if, when requested, adequate security or adequate payment on
account has not been rendered.
Bids should be made by the bidder in person at the place of auction or by written commission. Telephone bidding is possible
within certain conditions made out by Bruun Rasmussen. Bruun
Rasmussen is not to be held responsible for any errors that may
occur using this service. The auctioneer shall have absolute discretion as to the increment of the bids. The auctioneer will also
make decisions in all cases of doubt regarding the bidding.
§ 2. Payment
The purchase price is the hammer price plus 25% in buyer’s premium, including VAT, for lots sold subject to the special VAT
scheme for sales of Works of Art, Collectors’ items and Antiques,
and secondhand goods by Public Auction (hereinafter called Special VAT).
Certain lots are sold in accordance with specific rules on normal VAT arrangement (hereinafter called normal VAT), so that
the purchase price is the hammer price plus an additional 20%
in buyer’s premium and VAT of 25% levied on both the hammer
price and the buyer’s premium. The lots subject to Full VAT are
indicated as such in the catalogue with an asterix (*).
Danish VAT registered buyers shall provide us with documentation of their SE-/CVR-number (VAT No.) as this has to be quoted
on the invoice for goods bought at full VAT.
For some foreign buyers, specific VAT-exemption rules apply (cf.
Article 3). VAT-exemption does not apply to private buyers from
the EU who are considered as Danish buyers (cf. current Danish
legislation on Special VAT Scheme for Sales of Works of Art,
Collectors’ items and Antiques by Public Auction).
The purchase price falls due for payment when the goods have
been knocked down. Payment may be made in cash up to DKK
100,000, by Dankort, banker’s cheque, traveller’s cheque, Visa-,
Master-, Diners Club- or Eurocard. Personal foreign cheques may
only be used for payment by prior arrangement.
Payment may be made during or immediately after the auction.
Under all circumstances payment must be made no later than
eight days from the date of the invoice.
Should the purchase price not be paid by the due date, interest
at 1.5 % per new month will be charged.
If the purchase price and interest are not paid within eight
days after Bruun Rasmussen has sent its demand to the buyer,
Bruun Rasmussen shall be entitled to rescind the sale and resell
the goods at a Bruun Rasmussen auction or privately, and to
demand reimbursement of any related losses from the defaulting
buyer. Any further profit on the sale shall be payable to the person who had deposited the goods for sale by auction.
If the defaulting buyer is entitled to proceeds from a sale of
goods by Bruun Rasmussen, Bruun Rasmussen shall be entitled
to set off its receivables against its payables to the defaulting
buyer.
If the defaulting buyer has deposited other goods for sale,
Bruun Rasmussen shall be entitled to sell such goods at a Bruun
Rasmussen auction without being bound by the reserve stipulated by the defaulting buyer. The defautling buyer shall not be
entitled to demand the surrender of goods deposited for sale as
long as the debt payable to Bruun Rasmussen has not been discharged, regardless of whether the value of such goods may be
deemed to exceed the debt payable.
Bruun Rasmussen shall be entitled to refuse a bid made by a
buyer who is in default in respect to his payment obligations
176
to Bruun Rasmussen, as well as a bid made by a third party on
behalf of such a defaulting buyer. Bruun Rasmussen shall further
be entitled to demand a deposit as a condition of accepting any
future bids from such a purchaser.
§ 3. Exemption from VAT
Foreign buyers who fulfil the conditions stated below shall pay
20% of the hammer price in buyer’s premium and shall not be
subject to Danish taxes and duties:
A. Buyers residing in another EU Member State:
Buyers are exempt from paying Danish VAT as long as they
have provided Bruun Rasmussen with documentation of their
VAT registration. The VAT number will then be quoted on
Bruun Rasmussen’s invoice.
B. Buyers residing outside the EU:
1Dispatch through forwarding agent: Lots exported through a
forwarding agent approved by Bruun Rasmussen are exempt
from VAT.
2 Export as personal luggage: Goods may be exempt from
Danish VAT when the buyer personally takes the goods out
of the country as luggage, provided the following conditions
have been met:
The invoice must have been paid and the Danish duty of 25%
of the invoice amount must have been deposited with Bruun
Rasmussen.
a Buyers residing in Norway will be refunded the Danish VAT
as soon as the invoice of sale has been returned to Bruun
Rasmussen endorsed by the customs authorities of the country in question or by any other authority with jurisdiction
over matters of purchase tax with respect to official imports
of goods into the country in question if the purchase price
exceeds DKK 1,200.
b Buyers residing in other countries outside the EU will be
refunded the Danish VAT after the goods have been presented for customs clearance in connection with the departure of the buyer from the EU. The exporter’s form should be
returned to Bruun Rasmussen after being endorsed with the
customs authorities’ export certificate if the purchase price
exceeds DKK 300 This also applies to the Faroe Islands and
Greenland.
§ 4. Payment of taxes and duties
A. Buyers with VAT-registration in other EU member states who
do not wish to make use of Article 3 may instead choose to
purchase items subject to Special VAT/Normal VAT in the
same manner as private buyers. Bruun Rasmussen must be
notified of this before 10 a.m. on the following auction day.
B. Buyers with VAT-registration in Denmark may choose to purchase subject to Normal VAT at 25% of the hammer price
plus premium. Bruun Rasmussen must be notified of this
before 10 a.m. on the following auction day.
§ 5. Collection of purchases
The purchase price must be paid in full before the purchased lot
can be passed over to the buyer. From the time of the lot being
knocked down to the buyer, until its collection, the purchased
lot will be held at the buyer’s own expense and risk.
A storage fee will be charged for lots which have not been collected within 14 days after the time of the lot being knocked
down. Goods which have been paid for but not collected within 1 year will be resold at auction or privately at the buyer's
expense.
§ 6. Dispatch
Should Bruun Rasmussen undertake the packaging and for
warding of purchased goods, this shall be done at the buyer’s
BRUUN RASMUSSEN bredgade AUcTION 772
own expense and risk. Bruun Rasmussen shall thus not be held
liable neither for any damage caused to purchased goods during
dispatch nor for any missing consignments.
§ 7. Droit de Suite
Pursuant to current Danish legislation on Copyright, an artistic royalty shall be collected on works of modern art by all Danish and
some foreign artists. Bruun Rasmussen will from the buyer collect
the royalties required on behalf of the artists’ organisation Copy-Dan
for any work of art subject to this law. These works are identified in
the catalogue by CD for Copy-Dan, marked beside each relevant lot
number.
The artistic royalty will be calculated as follows for each work of art,
when the hammerprice exceeds DKK 1,863:
• 5% of the part of the hammerprice ranging from DKK 0 to
DKK 310.596 plus the buyer’s premium (20% excl. VAT)
• 3% of the part of the hammerprice ranging from DKK 310.596
to DKK 1,242,383 plus the buyer’s premium (20% excl. VAT)
• 1% of the part of the hammerprice ranging from DKK
1,242,383 to DKK 2,174,171 plus the buyer’s premium (20%
excl. VAT)
• 0.5% of the part of the hammerprice ranging from DKK
2,174,171 to DKK 3,105,958 plus the buyer’s premium (20%
excl. VAT)
• 0.25% of the part of the hammerprice lying above DKK
3,105,958 plus the buyer’s premium (20% excl. VAT)
The artistic royalty cannot exceed DKK 93,179 for each work of art.
§ 8. Export licence
Applications for an export licence must be made to the Danish
Cultural Assets Committee when required in accordance with
current Danish legislation on the protection and preservation of
cultural assets in Denmark. Where such a licence has not been
obtained, the foreign buyer will be informed thereof immediately after the lot has been knocked down to the buyer. Anot
her application will subsequently be sent to the Danish Cultural
Assets Committee by Bruun Rasmussen on behalf of the buyer,
now that the price is known. Should an export licence not be
granted, the Danish Cultural Assets Committee would be obliged
to acquire the purchased lot at the purchase price, and the buyer
would thus not be bound to the purchase.
§ 9. Cataloguing
All lots are sold in the condition in which they are found when
knocked down and as described in the catalogue with subse
quently published changes and modifications. Cataloguing is
done according to the best of Bruun Rasmussen’s knowledge
and on the cataloguing principles stated.
The lots auctioned are often of some age or of a kind which
makes it possible that they may contain defects, deficiencies, or
may have been subject to restoration or damage not necessarily
stated in the catalogue. Catalogue pictures are for identification
only and cannot be used for an evaluation of the condition of
the goods.
Any person who wishes to bid at an auction should therefore
sa-tisfy himself of the condition of the lots for which he intends
to bid by personal inspection at the preview held prior to the
auction. The catalogue description is an indication of the prevai
ling oppinion of scholars and expert at the time of the printing
of the catalogue. If any doubts should arise after the purchase
regarding the genuineness of the purchased lot or its confor
mance with the catalogue description, Bruun Rasmussen should
immediately be informed thereof.
Should the purchased lot be proved to be a forgery, or if the
catalogue description contains material errors which lead to
a considerably higher hammer price than that which a correct
catalogue description would presumably result in, the buyer shall
be entitled to cancel the purchase, after which the buyer shall be
reimbursed for the total purchase price paid, up till a maximum
amount of the highest estimated price stated in the catalogue
plus buyer's premium and VAT, when applicable.
For material errors in the catalogue description in respect to
measurements or weight, compensation shall only be paid on a
percentage basis in proportion to the difference.
The right of cancellation of a purchase in pursuance of the
present conditions can only be exercised by the party who has
bought the lot in question at Bruun Rasmussen and shall be subject to the presentation of a claim for cancellation in writing to
Bruun Rasmussen within 2 years of the purchase date and to the
purchased lot being returned to Bruun Rasmussen in the same
condition in any and all respects which the purchased lot was in
at the time of the lot being knocked down to the buyer.
In the event of cancellation the buyer shall not be entitled to
claim payment of interest on the purchase price nor shall the
buyer be entitled to claim compensation for any other expenses
or loss incurred, including any possible loss of profit in connection with reselling.
It shall not be possible to state cancellation of a purchase in
pursuance of the above provisions if:
a the catalogue description on the day the lot was knocked
down to the buyer was in accordance with the then generally
accepted opinion of scholars and experts;
b the only way of establishing whether the lot was a forgery
at the time of the publication of the catalogue was the
implementation of scientific processes, the validity of which
was only acknowledged after the time of publication of the
catalogue, or which would have required a disproportionate
amount of cost, or which would have been impossible to carry out without damaging the lot in question.

COMMISSION
Bruun Rasmussen undertakes to execute commission bids for
bidders who are unable to be present at the auction. It is a
prerequisite that Bruun Rasmussen receives the commission
24 hours before the start of the auction for the bidders’ credit
to be checked, if necessary. Bruun Rasmussen is not to be held
responsible for any errors that may occur using this service.
CONDITION REPORTS
Bruun Rasmussen undertakes to provide further information
about the state and condition of the lots if possible. This is
regarded as a service for customers who are unable to make a
personal inspection of the lots at the preview. Bruun Rasmussen
stresses that the information given cannot be used as the basis
for complaints; complaints can only be based on the catalogue
text.
Exemption FROM VAT
Buyers shall, according to § 2, pay full VAT on lots marked with
an asterix *.
No Danish VAT is to be paid when VAT registered companies
from other EU countries buy at Bruun Rasmussen and resell
to private buyers, The private buyer then only has to pay VAT
according to the rules in force in the country where the foreign
company is VAT registered. For further information please consult your local authorities.
The above is an English translation of the Danish version of the Conditions of Purchase. In case of dispute, only the Danish version of the present Conditions of Purchase of Bruun Rasmussen is valid.

i hammerslag.
ninger.
Angiv katalognummer.
Angiv beløbet De ønsker at byde.
“Max” i kolonnen.
auktionens start.

It is possible to leave commission bids if you can not be
present at the auction yourself. This service is free of
charge.
When leaving a commission bid, you are instructing our
customer service to bid up to a specified amount on your
behalf.
The situation can occur that another buyer has already
bid the same as you were prepared to. Are you then willing to bid further? If not the lot will be sold to another
buyer.
If you do not wish to exceed your bid then write “Max",
for maximum, next to the amount. You can also allow us
to raise your bid by approx. 15% or approx 25%.
The hammer price may be higher or lower than the estima
ted price, so it is possible to buy below the estimate.
Bruun Rasmussen will always buy at the lowest price possible, as if you yourself had been present at the auction.
All commission bids are strictly confidential.
Commission bids must be submitted no later than 24
hours prior to the start of the auction.
How to make a commission bid:
Complete the commission form with all pertinent
information.
Indicate the lot number.
Indicate the amount you are prepared to bid.
Should this amount be the absolute maximum, please
write “Max” in the appropriate column.
You can also allow us to bid by up to approx. 15% or
approx. 25% more by indicating so.
Sign the commission form and make sure that Bruun Ras
mussen receives it 24 hours prior to the start of the auction.
If the information should be insufficient, Bruun Rasmussen can abstain from bidding. Bruun Rasmussen can not
be held responsible for error in bidding or failure to execute bids.
After the auction Bruun Rasmussen’s 24-hour “hammerprice-information” is available for sale results at
