Great Escape Album available www.zemaria.net Saturday 1 February Stage 1 20:00 – 20:40 Márcio Faraco Good Brazilian music is also created outside Brazil. The musician and composer Márcio Faraco is one of the most telling examples of that reality. Márcio has been living in Europe since 1992. His talent was recognised as soon as his first album was launched in March 2000. With the suavity of his vocal timbre, his personal compositions with melodies moving from samba to bossa nova, through shades of jazz, and his very poetic texts, Márcio Faraco has earned himself a place of quality in the music world. There is something of João Gilberto in the music and personality of this very endearing singer and guitarist, Márcio Faraco. He has all the grace, nonchalance, false indolence, charm, and apparent ease of the former, which conceal extremely complex melodies and very rare guitar chords. His new album will be release on June 2014 (Le Chant du Monde/ Harmonia Mundi) www.marciofaraco.com Saturday 1 February Stage 1 21:00 – 21:50 Renata Rosa Renata Rosa has made her voice into an instrument enriched by contact with different world traditions. The Brazilian Nordeste and its folklore are her pretext for modern musical innovation, where the voice takes the place of pride. She has a special penchant for Indian and Arabic singing. Renata Rosa's first album, Zunido da Mata, received the "Choc de l'Année" award from Le Monde de la Musique. With her second album, Manto dos sonhos, she won the Best Singer Price at the Brazilian Music Awards. Her latest album, Encantaçoes, carries a strong and vibrant sound, bridged with moments of delicacy manifested in special melodies. Manto dos Sonhos Album available www.renatarosa.com/ Saturday 1 February Stage 1 22:10 – 23:00 Alceu Valença Alceu Valença is a Brazilian composer, writer, performer, actor, and poet. He was born in the countryside of Pernambuco, Northeast Brazil. He is considered as the most successful artist in achieving an aesthetic balance between traditional northeastern Brazilian music and a broad range of electronic sounds and effects from pop music. One can find traces of maracatu, coco and "repentes de viola" (improvising fast-paced Brazilian folk music) in most of his songs. Alceu was able to utilize the electric guitar the electric bass, and lately even a synthesizer was added to his broad scope of musical instruments. Because of that, Alceu was able to recreate Northeastern traditional music, like baião, coco, toada, maracatu, frevo, caboclinhos, embolada and repentes: all sung with a sometimes rock sometimes alternative sounding music background. www.alceuvalenca.com.br His music and his themes are intangible, universal and unlimited. However, his aesthetic basis is genuinely Brazilian Northeastern music.
