TAKING CARE OF YOURSELF
Thur., Nov. 12, 11:00 a.m., SMR/DR
Caregivers often think of self-care as “selfish” or
something that they do after they’ve taken care of
their other “duties,” “responsibilities,” and
“obligations.” This presentation will familiarize the
audience with the importance of and the essentials
of self-care. Debbie French will be the presenter for
this program. Nov. is National Hospice and
Palliative Care month.

THE VILLAGE GROCER:
RENOVATIONS ON THE WAY…
Thanks to a generous donation from the Village
Volunteer Retail Shops, the Village Grocer will be
getting a facelift later this month. The interior will
be completely remodeled from floor to ceiling with
new and improved flooring, lighting, and paint as
well as more attractive displays and shelving. The
existing freezers will be replaced by new units with
increased capacity to provide a greater variety of
frozen food items. Our hope is that the increased
product line, additional choices, and improved
interior design will result in a more pleasurable
shopping experience. Unfortunately the renovations
will require the store to be closed from Sat., Nov.
14 through Sat., Nov. 21. The store will reopen for
business on Mon., Nov. 23. We will have a Grand
Reopening Celebration in Dec.; the date to be
announced in a future FNN. We hope to see you

MINISTRY ANNOUNCEMENTS
The flip flop and undies collection will continue
until the week of Thanksgiving. Also, our “Cover
the Cold” blanket ministry has started and will go
through the winter. Please give and support a
simple ministry that helps so many directly. Drop
off your donations at a local AC church, or the

leadership that we have been blessed with as we
recognize the VC Pastoral Team!
Light refreshments will be provided. In
addition to this, as we have done in previous years,
a monetary gift from the church will be presented to
our pastoral staff by the elders. But of even greater
value will be your personal words of gratitude and
encouragement. Beginning Sun., Oct. 25, your
cards and notes can be placed in a basket located in

their service to our country. There are other
interesting articles on programs and services
available for FL elders.

Important Notice:
CCC pool and spa will be closed for routine
maintenance Nov. 5 through Nov. 8.
CCC is very excited about the NEW
check-in system at the front desk
that allows you to “swipe” your
ACV
resident
badge,
ACV
employee badge, or communityissued key tag at the front desk
when you enter the facility. (If you are a CCC
member and have not been registered in the new
system, please bring your ACV resident or
employee badge at your next visit so that we can get
you entered.) The ACV badges or community key
tags are the new method for checking into the gym,
so you will need them with you at each visit. We
appreciate your patience and cooperation during the
recent transition.

Thanksgiving Holiday Closing:
CCC will be closed on Thur., Nov. 26.
Member Services Tip of the Week:
Over the last several weeks many of our members
and others in Suwannee County and surrounding
counties have received telephone calls from persons
claiming to be with the IRS. During these calls they
make threats about action being taken against you,
including law suits if you do not take the action they
are requesting. These calls are SCAMS. The
Office of the Suwannee County Sheriff is aware of
these calls and is following up. The IRS does not
make calls of this type and you would also receive
written communication from the IRS if they are
expecting any follow-up from you.
Thanks to all who called our office to report
this telephone scam. We appreciate hearing from
you so that we can make others including law
enforcement aware of this type of activity.
We wish you a safe & healthy holiday!

FLU VACCINE FOR
2015-2016 FLU SEASON
Across the U.S., approximately 115,000 people are
hospitalized each year as a result of severe illness
from the flu. Influenza is the 9th leading cause of
death in the country. The good news is that there is
something we can all do to keep our families and
our community safer. Children and adults who
receive the INFLUENZA VACCINE each year are
on average 70% less likely to get sick and less
likely to spread illness to older relatives and
neighbors. The flu vaccine is now available at CMC
during the following times:
At any scheduled appointment with Dr. Maria
Gonzalez; Melanie Key, ARNP; and Beth Fulford,
ARNP.
By appointment only:
Tue. from 9:00-11:30 a.m. and 2:00-4:00 p.m.
Wed. from 9:00-11:30 a.m.
Fri. from 2:00-4:00 p.m.
Please call 658-5300 to schedule your
appointment for the flu vaccine and help keep our
community and families healthy this flu season.
Thank you, The Copeland Medical Staff

Welcome to Nov. and the beginning of many
wonderful activities being held between now and
Christmas. Please use page 1 of the FNN as your
guide to the many memorable moments coming
your way.
Speaking of memorable moments, Kathleen
Johnson, of GSC, has a need for volunteers to help
in the GSC dining room on Thanksgiving Day to
help set up and/or assist in the buffet line. The
dining times are 10:45, 11:15, 11:45 and 12:30.
Volunteers who have served in this capacity in the
past have commented that their hearts have been
greatly warmed by the opportunity to serve this
special meal to these special residents. Please call
Kathleen @ 658-5573, or me for further
information if this volunteer position interests you.
Thank you!
I would like to send a heartfelt and sincere
thank you to all of our dedicated volunteers,
whether you are a regular, part-time, and/or a
special events volunteer. We value you and
appreciate all that you do here in the Village from
day to day. When I get a chance to brag about our
volunteers and tell people that we have
approximately 250 men and women in our
“Volunteer Family,” most find it difficult to believe.
You are all truly special.
Harriett Rogers, of DH, will be participating
in the making of the garment protectors for GSC,
and Carole Kueppers will be assisting in the
making of the potholders that are used in the ACV
kitchens. Thank you, ladies, for giving of your time
in these two important areas of the Village.
Crosby Hatch and Bob Stross, both of RW, have
agreed to share the duties at CCC on Tue. evenings.
Thanks, gentlemen, for filling that void.
All blue volunteer reports are due in my office
by Thur., Nov. 12. Thanks for your continued
cooperation.

WOW! It is Nov.! We completed the month of Oct.
with some great activities. Last week with Spirit
Week and Friendship Week, we enjoyed our Pink
and Purple Day the most! Besides honoring staff
member, Linda Oleson with her “cancer-free”
status, it became a spontaneous event, and the
following cancer survivors were included in “letting
the balloons go:” staff member, Christine Smith,
residents, Faye Chambers, Mary Overhulser,
Margie Page, and volunteer, Jean Swensen, joined
Linda Oleson. It was an amazing sight as all the
residents and staff gathered together for the
recognition outside our front porch and watched the
balloons fly away! The lunch before this event was
enjoyed by ALL with homemade sides,
compliments of the staff, Cindy Crews, Mary
Moses, Betty Ann McFarland, Crystal Delcastiillo,
Nikki Rogers, Toni Patterson, Karis Rewis, Donna
Thornton and volunteers, Arlene Williamson and
Jean Swenson. Cindy Crews came up with the idea
for the staff making lunch for the residents, so…my
SHOUT OUT this week is to our very own Cindy
Crews! Cindy has been employed at ACV since
1991 and transferred from Good Samaritan Laundry
to DM in Aug. of 2002. Cindy is a true advocate
for our members and expects only the best for each
of them. She has a great work ethic and is always
busy. She can fill in at any position with
confidence and is extremely dependable and
efficient, always trying to make it better for those
who live here! She is a great role model for our
Resident Aides! Thank you, Cindy, for your
compassion and diligence!
The Wee Care children were decked out in
every possible costume we could imagine! Even
some of the parents were in costume! It is always a
joy to see the children. That evening, older trick-ortreaters came through for their candy too!
Bobbie King was honored happily on her 91st
birthday by daughter, Martha, and Mark King of
Live Oak, and son, Chris, and Debra King of
Atlantic Beach. A lively Italian eatery in Lake City
was the scene of remembrance and hilarity. To add
to the occasion, her grandson’s wife gave birth to a
daughter on Bobbie’s birthday! Great-grandchild
number 9! Happy birthday and congratulations!
Joann Miller celebrated her special day on
Mon., Nov. 2 with a beautifully decorated chocolate
on chocolate birthday cake! Nancy Henry was so
pleased with a visit from her sister, Susan HenryYoung (Gainesville). Carole Bailey was delighted
with a visit from her daughter and son-in-law, Dee
and Ron Wisemore (Sandersville, GA) and
granddaughter, Jaymi Mead (CA) over the
weekend. Vic Grondzki returned from a trip to

Carole “Doodle-Bug” Bailey had a new clown
with her on Mon. It was none other than Linda
“Happy Face” Hughes! The lovely and kind
clowns visited all the courts and GSC, giving out
hugs and very kind words of encouragement. What
a great ministry!
The Men’s Coffee Hour enjoyed “Harvest
Cake.” By the looks of the empty plates, I’d say
they thought it was delicious! The rest of the week
will include: Resident Meeting, Culinary
Advisement Team Meeting, Vespers, Exercise,
Bingo, Bible Study, Walmart Trip, Suwannee
Pickers, Dine-Out at Rumph, plus Donut Day and a
Ride-About Tour!
Next week we will concentrate on recognizing
our Veterans! We have several not feeling well;
please remember them in your thoughts and
prayers!

Our weather continues to be beautiful. I'm sure our
returning snowbirds are enjoying it since several
mentioned the heavy jackets they were wearing as
they packed their car to return to ACV. It was good
to see in church Sun. all of those who had returned.
Bob and I enjoyed a visit from my daughter,
Deborah, and son-in-law, Frank Arena, from
Madison, AL. They arrived on Thur. and left on
Sun. Frank had asked that I prepare a “honey-do”
list, which I did, so he was kept very busy. We did
take some time to enjoy meals out and time to just
visit.
I understand one of our new residents in LH has
discovered our tennis courts and has enjoyed
playing. This same gentleman, Chuck Allen, can
be seen exploring the neighborhood by walking
regularly. I think I need to follow your example,
Chuck, and stop using the golf cart so much. It's
good to see new residents get involved in some of
the many activities offered at ACV. I understand
Donna Allen has also been asked to share her
talents with the Rustic Shop. Thank you.
I believe that all of the apartments in the LH are
now occupied and we are awaiting the arrival of
another new arrival on Millsite Lane.
Remember the dedication of the renovated area
of the church and Taylor Commons on Sun., Nov.
8. I am sorry if I missed any news, but I was rather
involved here at home this past week. Be sure and
let me know what is happening that you might want
others to read about in the FNN. Keep your
neighbors in your prayers.

Welcome to another week of news from DH. Thank
you for sharing with us.
Happy birthday on Thur., Nov. 11 to Violet
Haberer. We trust you will have a great day and a
year of God’s blessings ahead.
Lisa Pollard reports that “P. Nut had a
wonderful time at the Pet Blessing. This was his 5th
year.”
Our newest resident, in apt. 304, is Margaret
Evans, who also goes by Peggy. We welcome her
to our DH family. Watch for her bio in an upcoming
issue of FNN.
Gladys Ezell reports that her special friend,
Sybil Hicks, had her daughter, Lois, and husband,
Gary, come to the Village from Taylorsville, KY.
Sybil's nephew, Charles Hatcher, and his wife came
from Jacksonville to be with Sybil. They all came
for the Hatcher Reunion in Mayo. Gladys enjoyed
their time together. Gladys’ niece, Marilyn Reed
from Dallas, and her daughter, Crissy Reed from
Houston, came for their first visit. They really
enjoyed Jackie Campbell taking them on a RideAbout tour of the Village, and enjoyed shopping in
the VS. They left knowing that Gladys lives in a
very special place and they look forward to coming
again. Gladys misses all of them and is so happy
they took the time to come see her!
May we always remember in prayer and with
love anyone we may be aware of who is ill or
confined to their apt. for any reason. Prayer is the
avenue through which we access God’s will and
plan for each of our lives. The Prayer Room at the
BC will be open in the near future for private
praying for the many requests that are dealt with
there. Sign up for a time reserved just for you and
make regular prayer a habit.
Thank you for your news this week. You may

Last week we were very busy making lollipop
ghosts and filling candy bags for the children for
trick-or-treat time. Thank you Wee Care for
bringing the children here. The residents loved the
visit and the opportunity to see all the costumes.
Thank you to the moms and dads who accompanied
them. We always look forward their visits.
After the children left, we took a few residents
on the “Turtle” to go trick-or-treating. Jackie
Campbell rounded up a few neighbors to
participate in our plan, so when the residents came
by they were ready to give out some treats. We
made two trips down Elmwood Lane and the
residents had a great time. Thank you to Jackie
Campbell, Betty Ulitsch, Dot Berggren, Diane
Law, Otto Hunerwadel and daughter Linda
Flosenzier, and Ed Oliva. I hope you enjoyed it as
much as we did.
We finished off the day with a Neverland party
in the Magnolia dining room. Thank you Melissa
and staff for the wonderful food you prepared for
us. You don’t often hear that there’s too much food
at a party, but even though we thought that, there
wasn’t a crumb left. Way to go!
We will be joining the Village Veterans Day
program on Tue., then off to the parade in Live Oak
9
on Wed. morning and back to GSC for our program
out front at 2:00 p.m. Please join us in thanking our
servicemen for their dedication and service to their
country.

Well, Halloween was a bust over here in POP. Bet
we didn’t have more than fifteen children and I was
loaded with candy. Thank goodness Bob’s
daughter, Linda Barton, is a school teacher and we
could unload our candy on her for her 6th grade
class. I don’t know what it is about holidays that
feature candy, but I can’t seem to get past them
without eating some.
Nov. birthdays begin with Eunice Greene on
Nov. 8, and Elaine VanAmburg on Nov. 28.
Congratulations to both of these dear ladies, and
may their celebrations not bring down too many
pine needles!
Please continue to pray for Bill Leithead that
he will soon get proper treatment and pain relief.
This coming Sun. will be the dedication for the
TC, LH, McGranahan Place, and Cleo’s Meeting
House. Also, the church renovations at the VC at
2:00 p.m. with refreshments to follow. Sure hope
you all will plan to attend.
Please keep Jane Yatros and her sister, Cathy
Johnson, in your prayers as Jane is quite ill and in
NFRH. Cathy is our neighbor in POP and is very
close to her sister. She has been spending time with
her at the hospital.
That’s all for this week. Enjoy the balmy
weather and, as usual, keep me posted on your
news.

We so enjoyed the visit by Wee Care last Fri.
morning. How cute! Some were shy, some eager to
reach for the Halloween goodies. All were
costumed and almost each child had a parent or
teacher holding a hand. Thank you Wee Care for
sharing your time with us.
Last week we looked into two of the shoeboxes
prepared by our Youth Groups for Samaritan’s
Purse. Like the Good Samaritan helping the injured
man in Luke 10, these boxes will go to needy
children in foreign countries who would almost
never get a Christmas gift, or the message of Jesus’
birth and His gift of salvation when we believe in
Him. It was interesting to see the variety and
quantity of things packed into these boxes. The
proper tracts in the language of the country to
receive these boxes will be added later. Information
about how to pack these boxes is available at the
VC and monetary gifts for this project are always
welcome. (Mark your check to the VC
“Samaritan’s Purse.”
There are many events on the calendar for the
month of November. Enjoy as many as you can.
The Wee Care children and staff would like to
thank everyone who had treats for us on Fri. The
children had a great time. Thanks - Wee Care
