FIRST BAPTIST CHURCH PREPARING FOR WORSHIP… AUGUST 16, 2015 WE GATHER TOGETHER Worship Music ................................................. LaRue Daniel, Pianist Welcome & Announcements ......................................... Pastor Charlie WE GATHER TO WORSHIP * Choral Call to Worship ................................................ Congregation *Prayer of Invocation ...................................................... Tracy Ferrell “O Worship the King” *Hymn of Praise No. 16 (On the last verse, all children are invited to the front for the Children’s Message) WE CELEBRATE OUR CHILDREN Children’s Message and Prayer ......................................Tammy Duke (Children to Kinder Church and Children’s Church) WE WORSHIP TOGETHER *Offertory Hymn “Fill the Earth with Music” While once speaking to a large audience, D.L. Moody held up a glass and asked, "How can I get the air out of this glass?" One man shouted, "Suck it out with a pump!" Moody replied, "That would create a vacuum and shatter the glass." After numerous other suggestions Moody smiled, picked up a pitcher of water, and filled the glass. "There," he said, "all the air is now removed." He explained that victory in the Christian life is not accomplished by "sucking out a sin here and there," but by being filled with the Holy Spirit. He also stated that “I believe firmly that the moment our hearts are emptied of pride and selfishness and ambition and everything that is contrary to God’s law, the Holy Spirit will fill every corner of our hearts. But if we are full of pride and conceit and ambition and the world, there is no room for the Spirit of God. We must be emptied before we can be filled.” Today, we will be looking at “making every minute count” as Paul encourages us to do in verse 16 of our passage from Ephesians 5. In this short passage of six verses that we are focusing on today, I have found six ways in which we can make the most of the opportunities that are placed before us. One of those is being filled with the Holy Spirit which makes the other five ways possible. My prayer is that I will make the most of the time that God gives to me each day and that you will do the same. I believe we can if we follow Paul’s advice found in this passage. Hot dogs on Friday and pizza on Saturday. Between dinner and the worship rally there will be other activities that will be going on in the gym! (cornhole, kanjam, foursquare). The second half of the night will be spent in the sanctuary for a Worship Rally! Sanctuary doors will open 15 minutes. prior to the start of the worship rally. There will be informational slides on the screen and music playing along with a beach ball bouncing! Once the rally starts, there will be on-stage games for the braver students, giveaways, music, and most importantly, teaching from God’s Word by the Rev. Jordan Gandy. Jordan is a DMIN student at Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary and is the Associate Pastor at Garden City Baptist in South Carolina. Students will be challenged to examine whether or not they have a relationship with Christ as well as whether or not they’re taking it seriously. Paul talks about being a slave to righteousness in Romans 6, and students will be challenged to be “captivated” by Christ! Toiletry donation will be collected to be given to their missions building to be distributed to the underprivileged in our community. Bring things like toilet paper, deodorant, toothpaste/toothbrushes, etc. to donate! CHRISTMAS IN AUGUST Wednesday, August 26 the WOM will host our Annual Christmas in August. We will have a traditional Christmas dinner of ham, stuffing, gravy, sweet potatoes, green beans, cranberry sauce, rolls, drinks, and dessert. On this night we ask that you bring one or more unwrapped Christmas gifts which will be donated to the CCM Christmas Toy Ministry. These toys will be distributed to needy families in December just in time for Christmas. Remember those less fortunate during this special time. RED CROSS BLOOD DRIVE We will host a Red Cross Blood Drive on Friday, September 11 in our Family Life Center. If you are interested in donating please contact Mary Duke at 919482-1280 or at [email protected] YOUTH HYMNSING We will have a HymnSing on Sunday, August 30 at 5:00 p.m. in the Youth House Ross Smith and his guitar will take you through the make-up of hymns and the message behind them. Most traditional hymns tell the Gospel story from the fall to redemption and reconciliation. Modern contemporary Christian songs don’t usually do that, e.g. focus just on praise. Emphasize will be on the importance of hymns in communicating the Gospel.
