XX.
Handling class at a championship or open show. Any dog entered in handling only classes is not eligible to be shown in a
breed/AVNSC/Variety/Stakes class at the show or compete for the Group, Best in Show or Best Puppy in Show. The FIRST
placed handler only in each age group at the qualifying show will qualify for Crufts. A rosette is awarded to the first place
winner. This is not a roll down competition. Handling qualifiers run from the 1st January to the 31st December for the
following year’s Crufts. If a member is disqualified, the qualification does not roll down to the next placing. Classes for
handling are decided by the handler’s age. The classes are divided into three age groups: 6-11 years (6 years and up to,
but not including 12th birthday); 12-16 years (12 years and up to, but not including 17th birthday); 17-24 years (17 years
and up to, but not including 25th birthday). In order to enter any YKC competition, you must be a fully paid up member at
the time of entry and competition. If you enter a Crufts qualifier and you have not previously paid your membership fee
then any award will be forfeited. Therefore it is important to renew and maintain YKC membership as current if you wish
to participate in YKC competitions.
YOUNG KENNEL MEMBERS' STAKES: Only dogs of six (6) calendar months of age and over on the day of competition are
eligible for entry into an YKC stakes class. Dogs must be on the Kennel Club Breed register to compete in an YKC stakes
competition. All pedigree dogs are eligible to take part provided the dog is registered on the Kennel Club Breed Register.
The dog must be registered; a. solely or jointly in the member’s name or b. In the name of a close member of the family
and under these circumstances the dog must be resident at the YKC member’s address. No substitute handlers are
permitted – the dog must be handled by the registered YKC member. In certain cases members may be permitted,
through permission from the YKC Office, to show a dog that is not registered in their name, the family name or registered
at their address and must write into the YKC office for permission to show which will then go forward to a Management
Meeting for approval. This must be approved by the Management Meeting before entering. The handler must be aged 6 24 years (members 6 years and up to, but not including 25th birthday). Please note that membership of the YKC
terminates on a member’s 25th birthday.

was previously eligible. The dog declared Best Puppy in Show, however, must not compete in any
subsequent competition. Puppies may be withdrawn from Any Variety (AV) Classes when judged before
Breed Classes.
c. Proviso
For the purpose of this Regulation, dogs beaten in competition for Stud Dog, Brood Bitch, Progeny, Brace and
Team or a Special Award confined to one breed will not be considered to be a beaten dog.

competition other than breed classes and Best of Breed prior to the competition for Best of Group or Best in

competition. Dogs may be withdrawn from AV Classes when judged before Breed Classes.

announcement that exhibits are required for judging, unless they have been unavoidably delayed by
previous judging not being completed on time, and then only with the special permission of the Show
Management.

to help guide you through the do’s and don’ts travelling to and whilst at KC licensed events.
6
b) When travelling to a show please take a moment to consider whether the route to the show is on a busy
