of Papa’s Pantry
and CCN
As I lay in bed one night recently, I found
myself talking to God about many things. The
new year holds a couple of exciting opportunities for Pantry expansion. I began reaching
for God’s thoughts on what to write about for
this issue. Balancing work with my family and
precious grandbabies…. Out of my mouth I
heard, “God, what should I do?”
This scenario probably happens to everyone once in a while,
when our mind begins drifting from one thing to another.
Sometimes thoughts are task oriented, while others may be
looking for solutions to problems There may be new challenges to be met, while some may just be plain worrisome.
As I lay there somewhere between sleep and consciousness, it
dawned on me that I really didn’t know what I was praying
about specifically. It was one of those heart communications
where the brain tries to keep up, but often becomes the last
element of reason. But hearing the words out loud is what
brought me back to clear thought!
Very quickly I felt, “LOVE ME.” My response was, of course
God I love you!” I began to feel like Peter when Jesus was
asking him if he loved him in John 21. Then, I questioned, “I
do love you God, don’t you know so?” I felt his smile.
Whew! I was ok. God knows that I love him!
As soon as I began to feel peace that I was OK with “The Big
Daddy” I felt him impress, “TRUST ME.” Now, this was
getting spooky. God, you know that I do love and trust you!
Am I missing something?,” and began to validate my ministry
work before him.
Did God really, for a moment, see a crack in my faith that he
would question my devotion to him? From this perspective it
was a bit rattling and worthy of some self reflection. I again
related to Peter’s upset reply to Jesus when repeatedly asked
if he (Peter) loved Jesus - Of course Lord, I would do anything for you! (Paraphrased from John 21:15-19.) Jesus
blessed Peter with the fulfillment of his life’s purpose - to
continue spreading the faith about Jesus to the nations.

Trust is an interesting concept. According to the online
Webster’s dictionary, it means reliance on the integrity,
strength, ability, surety, etc., of a person or thing;
confidence. Most people I know will admit to having
basic trust issues because of a past hurt or hurdle that
didn’t end well.
Seldom do you hear anyone say that they have trust in
another person, in fact some joyfully admit they don’t
trust anyone as if it was a badge of honor! In our society
people tend to put trust in their money, job, or the government for provision. Without a firm foundation of
faith, how does someone get to the place to trust in God
for anything, let alone for everything?
For me, it is a lifetime of lessons learned, and thank God
for each and every one! As you might imagine, running
a ministry takes a great deal of faith and trust that God
will be in control! The bankbook doesn’t always reflect
great resources, but God is The Great Resource we
depend on! Since 1998 he’s not let us down, not once!
We always have enough to meet the needs of our clients.
Now, that’s not to say that it is always easy - that would
be a completely different concept, and not one that
would be supported biblically. Sometimes we have to do
more with less which I believe can be tests along the
way. Our trust in him is strengthened each time of urgent
dependency to a brand new level!

First Baptist Church Woodstock
January 28-29 or February 4-5, 2011
By: Mary Tucker
First Baptist Church Woodstock is hosting its 19th annual men’s conference in 2011, and men are
given the choice to attend either the last weekend in January or the first weekend in February. The
theme will be “The Distraction of Attraction.”
As Pastor Johnny Hunt explains, “Every time we give in to The Distraction of Attraction, we only
increase our appetite for sin. Far too often these runaway appetites lead us to tarnished testimonies,
tattered marriages, and families torn apart.
“Join me for our 19th year together as we rip off the polished exterior of the sin that threatens to
destroy us and expose it for the disappointment and death that it really represents. It is my desperate
desire that God grant us the grace and wisdom to withstand this deceptive assault on our hearts and our
homes.”
The conference will include three messages from Pastor Johnny as well as two breakout sessions of
your choice, covering a wide range of topics. These sessions will cover topics on leadership, marriage,
discipleship, parenting, and many others. These workshops will not only challenge you to become a
Godly man but also provide you with the tools to do so.
Special music will be presented by Scott White and the First Baptist Worship Team. Spanish
Translation and Deaf Signing will be available during the January conference.
Doors open Friday at 2:00 pm, and the sessions that day end at 10:00 pm. A steak dinner is offered
Friday night at an additional cost. Presentations on Friday include a keynote speech by Pr. Johnny and
breakout sessions. The conference resumes Saturday morning at 7:00 am, with breakout sessions
starting at 7:30. Pr. Johnny will present two keynote sessions later in the morning. The conference will
conclude with a praise and worship service and dismissal at 12:30 pm.
Tickets are available online at the First Baptist website, www.fbcw.org, or they can be purchased at
the door for $65.
The numerous breakout sessions will be the same on both weekends, and all breakout sessions will
also be available for purchase in CD form from It’s a New Day Ministry. Below is a small sampling of

Papa’s Pantry Update
2011! We made it through the holidays - The Master’s Training Center
THANK YOU for all the donations which
helped us make it a blessed Christmas for so
many! Thank you notes and emails are coming in
from people, our neighbors, who were on the receiving end of your generosity!
In January, all training center classes will resume starting with a customized resume writing class on Tuesday the 4th, 10-1pm. All classes are open
to the public so be sure to call to register for each session. The entire
month’s training schedule is posted on TheMastersTrainingCenter.com.
Interested in volunteering for Papa’s Pantry? Please come to a New
Volunteer Orientation on Wednesday, Jan. 5th, 11:30-12:30. Please
register so that we know you are coming. You will hear how Papa’s began
in 1998 and the calling and needs of the ministry today. If you’ve felt like
God has been speaking to you about serving the community, we hope to
meet you on the 5th!
As we begin this new year, will you prayerfully consider financially
partnering with us with monthly giving? In 2010, donations were 45%
below that of 2009. Our staff was reduced because of the shortfall,
although the needs continued to go up. Please help us be able to gain back
and sustain at least one full time associate with your giving.
Normal Business Hours: Monday: 9:30-2:30
Tues, Wed, Thurs: 9:30-4:30
Friday, 9:30-2:30
Grocery assistance is by appointment Tues, Wed, Thurs, and Friday so that
we have the opportunity to get to know each client better, and to identify
other resources that may be needed. A “partnered” client is one who is
actively participating in the life-skills and stability training programs in an
effort to get back on their feet!
The Pantry offices will be closed on Monday January 17th in honor of
Martin Luther King day. If in the event of inclement weather and the
Cherokee County Schools are closed, Papa’s Pantry and The Master’s
Training Center will also be closed. 770-591-4730 / papaspantry.org

Resume Tips To Get You Started!
OK, here it is, January 2011! This is what you’ve
been waiting for these last couple of months… for
the holidays to be over so that you can kick-start
your job search!
Well, if you are just beginning to consider that your
documents might need a bit of updating before you
submit anything, you might be right. The days of a
“one-size-fits-all” resume is as outdated as the
typewriter!
It used to be that a biographical approach to writing
a resume was the way to go. It would require that
every job ever worked should be listed and
discussed, no matter how many pages it took.
Certainly, the human resource professional would be able to read between the
lines to evaluate that you, the job seeker, have a variety of skills and
experiences that may be transferable into learning a new job. Unfortunately,
this thinking no longer exists. The competition for each job is just too steep for
that kind of in depth study of every resume submitted.
The resume itself should be considered your sales tool. Sound impressive? It
can be. But also know that sales tools are oftentimes pieces of “junk mail.”
There, I’ve gone ahead and said it… your resume is bound for the round file if
you don’t do something that will catch the potential employer’s eye!
The job of the resume is to earn an interview, it is not to win you the job! With
that first “ah-ha” you should be able to begin to carve away some of the
information on your current resume version that doesn't apply at all to the new
position. These extra jobs noted will simply become a distraction to your
reader.
As you cut away, keep a few things in mind:
1) You must get your screener’s attention within the first 3 to 5 seconds or
your resume will be headed to the “no thank you” pile.
2) Do what you can to get it all on one page. There are a few industry
exceptions, but if in doubt, stick to one. Human Resource professionals
seldom read much that is on page 2 (or, heaven forbid, page 3!)
3) Position yourself as an expert in your field. Communicate your skills,
education, and experiences that will translate into “plug and play” without
a great deal of guidance, training or supervision. Your job posting will
give you many clues to draw from!
4) Formatting is important. Stick with basic fonts such as Times New Roman
or Arial. Your name and contact information should be in a centered block
at the top, your name at least 14 points if not larger. All other text (with the
exception of subtitles or categories) should be 11 to 12 points. Resist going
smaller to get more on the page. If it is too small to be read, it won’t be.
5) Proof read, proof read, PROOF READ! This is an indication of your eye
for detail from your potential new employer’s standpoint. If there are
misspelled words or your present and past tenses are confused, it will cost
you the interview… hence the job. If you ask anyone to help you in this
proof reading stage, avoid accepting their thoughts about what should be
included in the resume unless they are in the Human Resource field. The
rules have changed… a lot!
Hopefully these tips will help you successfully dust off your old resume and
breathe some life into a new one! For more resume tips, please consider
yourself invited to attend The Master’s Training Center Employment Series!

issue. The lessons deliver hope-filled truths and real-life strategies for giving young people the tools for making wise choices
and developing healthy patterns for living. By working
through the Christ-centered principles, based on the 8 Beatitudes in Matthew 5 along with a community of peers and caring adults, students will learn tools to help them give over their
addictions to Jesus and find true healing and victory.

If trust is something you struggle with, you are not alone. It is easy to get
discouraged and not know where to turn in times of trouble. Even Christians
sometimes go through rough patches when faith is stretched and trust is hard.
Don’t give up! When the going gets tough, the tough get on their knees… and
pray! We are all a work in progress, and as long as we keep calling out to the
Lord, he will not let us go!
If you’ve never been introduced to God, just boldly introduce yourself to him.
There’s no fancy ceremony needed. Then begin searching for who he is. There
are many resources out there, beginning with people you know, the bible, and of
course a pastor. There are a number of good churches locally that are listed
within the directory columns in this newsletter.
God is who we think of as “Father,” Creator of the earth and mankind, but he is
so much more. The stories found in the Old Testament (the 1st of 2 sections of
the Christian bible) speak of God’s power, provision, and protection. The
anticipation of the birth and ministry of Jesus is accurately foretold throughout
these pages of history, between 2,000 and 4,000 years ago!
Jesus, the son of God (and also God) was born in human form 2,000 years ago,
which is the celebrated Christmas season for Christians. On earth, he lived for
approximately 33 years. It is during the Easter season that we remember his
death and resurrection power which gave us the grace to overcome our own
weaknesses. Jesus walked this earth and withstood the hardships and trials that
life brings to us humans. He endured temptation in areas that would have
separated him from God. His life remained pure. He taught us how to pray and
depend on his God and Father for all things. He taught us how to take spiritual
authority within our circumstances. He healed us.
Doesn’t that sound like someone you can love and trust? The last inspired
instruction I knew that restless night I mentioned before was “FOLLOW ME!”
As modern-day Christians, we seek Jesus. Throughout the New Testament as
Jesus began his teaching and healing ministry, he told those he encountered to
follow him. We learn that these men became his disciples and true followers,
leaving behind their way of life as well as possessions to follow this teacher of
truth. To truly follow someone, there must be something to trust in. There had to
have been a moment for each one of his followers the realization that their ways
paled in comparison to the wisdom and authority that this man called Jesus
spoke.
In John 14:6-7 we read Jesus saying, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No
one comes to the Father except through me. 7 If you really know me, you will
know my Father as well.”
Following just anyone can be a dangerous thing, even so in biblical times.
Today, don’t we warn our kids about the people they become friends with? What
are the values of who they are associating with? Who are we associating with?
Who is leading the decisions of the group? Sometimes followers become that way
because of a lack of self worth and it is easy to blend into the group. Very Sad.
Jesus is a deliberate choice. It comes from getting to know who he is through his
word. The more we learn, the easier it is to love and trust. To follow him requires
that we let go of dependency of our own earthly wisdom and pride to allow his
truth, word, and will to become evident in our lives. True dependency on him is
when a Christian can “live by faith and not by sight.” It is then that each of us
can identify our life’s purpose and be directed as to how we should live it.
I hope you will take this New Year opportunity to commit yourself to a more
dedicated relationship with the Lord. The more you seek his face, you will find
his hands and his heart! Our Lord’s specific word for each of us is to “LOVE
ME, TRUST ME, AND FOLLOW ME!”
Happy New Year! Lynne
