St. Mary of the Valley - Saint Mary of the Valley Catholic Church
From the Desk of Fr. Bloom July has been a great month for young people at St. Mary of the Valley. Besides our Parish Camp-Out we had two wonderful Vacation Bible Schools. The Faith Formation section has a picture from our session in English. I would like to thank all the parents and young adults who worked to make the Bible Schools such a success. I put a couple of other pictures on my bulletin board and on our online parish album: http://stmaryvalleybloom.org/ stmaryalbum.html On July 23, we had a well-attended Youth Empowerment Morning. The picture shows part of the group at the conclusion of the Mass. At the center of the picture you can see the painting of the Risen Christ by Peter Faulds. The painting graces our parish office. The Knights prepared a delicious breakfast for the Youth Empowerment Morning. Below are some of the boys enjoying bacon, eggs and hashbrowns. That same day at the regional Knights of Columbus Barbecue, our team took 2nd place chicken and 1st place pork and brisket. You will be seeing the first place plaques in the parish hall. Our award winning Knights will be cooking the hamburgers and hot dogs for the Parish Picnic that begins at about 1 p.m. this Sunday. At the Picnic we will have the World Youth Day Send-Off and Raffle. There will games for children provided by World Youth Day delegates. Please come and bring your appetite! Next Saturday we have the Soccer Tournament. I understand that we have as many as twenty teams. It should be quite an event. We will begin serving food at around 10 a.m. Stop by any time before 1 or 2 p.m. to support our youth. Our final event before World Youth Day will be the Quo Vadis movie on August 10, beginning at 6 p.m. At the intermission we will have pizza and Mexican food available. All are welcome to join our youth that evening. Admission is free, but we will have a jar for donations. We are close to reaching our goal to cover World Youth Day expenses. I received a nice donation toward our “Last Supper” in Madrid. We are up to McDonald’s level, but I am hoping to have enough for an authentic Spanish restaurant. Our final World Youth Day collection will be at Masses next weekend. If by some chance we have a surplus, I will put it in a reserve fund for upcoming youth pilgrimages: Peru Mission Trip in December 2012 and World Youth Day 2014. This Wednesday evening (August 3) at 7 p.m. we have Altar Server Training. Young adults, high school students, and children who have made their First Communion may become servers. For sure you have noticed the renovation of our church restrooms. Most of the work has been completed on the south restroom. John Lenac is working hard and we should have the entire project finished within a few weeks. Thank you, John, for your great work! Efrain, Miano, Anthony, Renard, Bill, Aaron Y! Thank you for your Generosity! They are: the initial proclamation of the Gospel or missionary preaching to arouse faith; examination of the reasons for belief; experience of Christian living; celebration of the sacraments; integration into the ecclesial community; and apostolic and missionary witness. —Catechism of the Catholic Church, 4-6 If you’d like to join the Generations of Faith team for the next season, we’d love to have you. We are always looking for new volunteers! Interested??? Call Kathy, 360 794-8945, ext. 13. ST. MARY’S MENS’ STUDY GROUP Women’s Bible Study --- Prophets & Apostles All men of the parish are welcome to bring their two-cents-worth or just to listen. For details see the link to "Men's Study Group" on St. Mary's website." In our first eight week session, based on the Come & See series by Fr. Joseph Poness, S.S.D., and Laurie Watson Manhardt, Ph.D., we explored John’s Letters, the Book of Habakkuk, James’ Letter, and Paul’s Letter to the Galatians. Our first eight-week session is finished. We all agree that this was time wonderfully spent and feel that we have all grown in appreciation of the Scriptures and the Catechism of the Catholic Church, not to mention fellowship, enthusiasm for the next series and appreciation of a great potluck dinner! If you missed this first series, don’t miss the second eight-week session in the Fall, beginning Tuesday, Sept. 27th, 6:45-8:15pm. Order your workbook on-line through Amazon or other websites. **NEXT MEN’S STUDY GROUP: AUGUST 16TH AT 7:00 PM ALTAR SERVER TRAINING UPDATE The training for Altar Servers has been changed to: The Gabriel Project The Gabriel Angel Angels are called to give the love of Christ to the mothers they help. Each Mom should have her own Angel so she can receive undivided care and attention. Very often it is the personal Christian witness of her Angel that inspires Mom to seek Christ in her own life. Angels befriend and minister to pregnant mothers throughout their pregnancies and somewhat beyond. Angels pray for Mom and encourage her at every stage of her journey. Angels keep the Coordinator informed about the well-being of Mom and child. Wednesday, August 3, 2011 at 7:00 PM Vacation Bible School "Please keep the Gabriel Project in your prayers as we continue to develop this ministry. Thanks, and God Bless!" HEY, KIDS! Happy Summer Vacation! Now that summer is here, school is out and you have some free time…if you’re in grades 1-5, this is a great time to finish your Called to Faith workbooks.
