Staf Boustead yang dihargai,
Selamat Hari Raya Maaf Zahir dan Batin. Saya harap anda
semua telah menikmati cuti Raya yang menyeronokkan di
samping keluarga dan sahabat handai.
YBhg Tan Sri Dato’ Lodin Wok Kamaruddin
Group
Managing Director's
message
Dear fellow Bousteadians,
Selamat Hari Raya Maaf Zahir dan Batin. I hope that you have
all enjoyed the Raya break with your families and friends.
The first half of this year has clearly been a challenging
one due to the volatility in the local and global economy.
Nevertheless in spite of this difficult period, the Boustead
Group remained focused in its strategies to solidify its position
as one of Malaysia’s leading Government Linked Company.
For the six months ended 30 June 2009, the Group recorded
a profit before tax of RM168 million on the back of a turnover
of RM2.5 billion. While our results have been challenged
compared with the previous year’s earnings, the Group was
still able to chart a positive performance against the tough
economic backdrop.
In June this year, the Group marked a significant milestone
by collaborating with Khazanah Nasional Berhad to bring
KidZania to Malaysia.
KidZania is essentially an indoor educational theme park which
allows children to experience adult occupations first hand. It
will be located in Mutiara Damansara in a new seven-storey
building diagonally across from the Curve. In the long-term,
we are confident that KidZania will help reinforce the value
and popularity of Mutiara Damansara.
As part of the Group’s commitment to fortify its business, we
had also embarked on a rights issue in July this year of up
to 260,412,729 rights shares on the basis of two (2) rights
shares for every five (5) existing Boustead shares. The rights
issue was timely as it helped us raise RM729 million.
Clearly there are discerning investors who appreciate the
value that the Boustead Group can provide to them. It is this
reason that helped us achieve such a successful rights issue.
We expect the journey ahead to be challenging. Fortunately,
our diversified streams of business coupled with our
improvement in operational efficiencies will lead us through
this period.
Moving forward, I certainly hope that all Bousteadians will
continue to work hard to ensure that the Group is able to
achieve greater progress. I believe that with our collective
efforts, we will be able to overcome whatever challenges
that may arise in the future.
Separuh tahun pertama ini sememangnya sungguh
mencabar disebabkan ketidakstabilan ekonomi tempatan
dan juga global. Namun begitu, Kumpulan Boustead
kekal fokus dalam strategi-strateginya bagi memantapkan
kedudukannya sebagai salah satu daripada Syarikat
Berkaitan Kerajaan (GLC) Malaysia yang unggul walaupun
menghadapi satu tempoh yang sukar.
Bagi enam bulan berakhir 30 Jun 2009, Kumpulan
telah mencatatkan keuntungan sebelum cukai sebanyak
RM168 juta di atas perolehan sebanyak RM2.5 bilion.
Walaupun keputusan pendapatan kita tidak sehebat
tahun sebelumnya, Kumpulan masih mampu mencatatkan
Malaysia.
KidZania merupakan satu taman tema pendidikan dalam
bangunan di mana kanak-kanak berpeluang memainkan
peranan orang dewasa. Ianya akan bertempat di Mutiara
Damansara di sebuah bangunan baru tujuh tingkat
bertentangan pepenjuru dengan the Curve. Kami yakin
kita menjana sebanyak RM729 juta.
Ternyata sekali terdapat para pelabur bijak yang
menghargai nilai yang diberikan oleh Kumpulan Boustead
kepada mereka. Disebabkan inilah, terbitan hak kita telah
berjaya.
Kita menjangkakan perjalanan mendatang semakin
mencabar. Meskipun begitu, kepelbagaian aliran
Saya percaya
dengan usaha secara bersama, kita dapat mengatasi
segala cabaran yang mendatang.
I end my message on that note. Best wishes to you and your
family.
Sekian sahaja untuk kali ini. Selamat maju jaya kepada
anda sekeluarga.
Thank you.
Terima kasih.

CURRENT POSITION
Director of Operations, Plantation
NATURE OF JOB
Head the Plantation Division with the responsibility of maximising
productivity and profitability of the various operating centres
and ensuring they operate in a responsible and sustainable
manner using best management practices (BMP) and good
management practices (GMP).
WORKING EXPERIENCES
• Graduated from College of Agriculture, Serdang in 1969
under a Guthrie scholarship which was part of the PIMP
(Plantation Industry Malaysianisation Programme) as a
succession planning programme to replace the then mainly
European management staff on the estates.
• Worked as an estate assistant for two years on a Guthrie
estate before joining Eldred estate, a part of the Malakoff
Group of estates owned by Boustead PLC in July 1971 as
Assistant Estate Manager.
• Was promoted to Estate Manager in 1978 whilst serving on
Telok Sengat estate. Also served on the company’s estates in
Johor, Kelantan, Sabah, Perak and Kedah.
• Was appointed as Visiting Agent in 1993 and was transferred
to Boustead Estates Agency Sdn Bhd in Kuala Lumpur and
was elevated to Planting Director in 2001 to head the
Plantation Advisory Department.
• Assumed the current position of Director of Operations,
Plantation in 2008 and is the Board Chairman of Applied
Agricultural Resources Sdn Bhd, an associate company
specialising in Plantation Research and Development.
• Held various positions within the Plantation industry including
Council Member of the Malayan Agricultural Producer
Association (MAPA) and member of its Finance and Executive
Committee, Council Member of the Malaysian Palm Oil
WORK ATTITUDE AND LEADERSHIP
• “Integrity, professionalism and loyalty are important
personal values that must be cultivated. In any
organisation, the ability to work as a team is a must to
ensure the company's goals are achieved."
• “Changes, risks and mistakes are part and parcel of
the work environment and these challenges should be

HOPES AND ASPIRATIONS
• Leaving a legacy of hard work, prudence and an
organisation based on systemic decision making.
• Having accurate and timely information for correct
decision making and being close to the ground to
ensure operations can be carried out effectively and
efficiently.
MEMORABLE WORKING EXPERIENCES
• It is indeed an honour during my 40 years in the
Plantation industry to be part of the successful transition
and transfer of the well organised British system of
management of the Plantations to Malaysian control.
The continuous improvements to the estates thereafter
using modern technology of IT and machinery as well
as improved agronomic practices have resulted in
improved productivity on the estates.
• The first Boustead Estate Manager to be transferred
to Sabah in 1981 to develop a Cocoa estate from
the jungle, but now fully replanted with oil palms.
The British plantation companies had stopped their
expansion plans as they were divesting from the Far
East. Obtaining such fresh experience in developing
new estates was almost unheard of during that period.
• The implementation of the BAARMIS, a decision support
system based on GIS/GPS information to the Group
estates has enabled the estate managers to make timely
and correct decisions.
INGREDIENTS FOR SUCCESS
• Always adopt the attitude of Doing more and not
Asking for more. My work ethics have always been the
advice given by my first Boustead Manager: “When
you’re an Assistant work as if you’re a Senior Assistant,
when you’re a Senior Assistant work as if you’re the
Manager, when you’re a Manager manage your estate
as if you’re the Visiting Agent!”
• Never stop Learning and the acquiring of knowledge
should be a continuous life self improvement process.
• Never be afraid of Mistakes or Failures, it is only
through these Challenges that Successes are built
upon.
Never stop learning and the
acquiring of knowledge should
be a continuous life self
improvement process.

Jokes of the day
You know what?
This woman’s husband had been
slipping in and out of a coma for
several months, yet she had stayed by
his bedside every single day. One day,
when he came to, he motioned for her
to come nearer.
home, and when I get there, I find my
wife in bed with the gardener. I leave
home, and come to this bar. And just
when I was thinking about putting an
end to my life, you show up and drink
my poison.”
“I think you’re bad luck,” he said.
The beggar
A man walked past a beggar on the
corner of the street where he works.
The beggar held out his one hand
and the man dropped a coin into his
hand.
One day the man walked pass the
beggar again and noticed the beggar
was holding out both his hands.
Good sleep & worry
free pills
Tom had this problem of getting up
late in the morning and was always
late for work. His boss was mad at him
and threatened to fire him if he didn’t
do something about it.
So Tom went to his doctor who gave
him a pill and told him to take it before
he went to bed. Tom slept well and in
fact beat the alarm in the morning.
He had a leisurely breakfast and drove
cheerfully to work.
A really bad day
There was this guy at a bar, just
looking at his drink. He stayed like that
for half an hour.
Then, this big trouble-making truck
driver stepped next to him, took the
drink from the guy, and just drank it
all down. The poor man started crying.
The truck driver said, “Come on man,
I was just joking. Here, I’ll buy you
another drink. I just can’t stand to see
a man cry.”
“No, it’s not that. This day is the
worst of my life. First, I fall asleep,
and I go late to my office. My boss,
outrageous, fires me. When I leave
the building, to my car, I found out it
was stolen. The police said that they
can do nothing. I get a cab to return
home, and when I leave it, I remember
I left my wallet and credit cards there.
The cab driver just drives away. I go
Lady: “That’s different. My job is
hard. Anyone could do your job.”
Me: “Then you won’t mind taking
that cake home and decorating it
yourself.”
As she sat by him, he whispered,
eyes full of tears, “You know what?
You have been with me through all
the bad times. When I got fired, you
were there to support me. When my
business failed, you were there. When
I got shot, you were by my side. When
we lost the house, you stayed right
here. When my health started failing,
you were still by my side. You know
what?”
“What dear,” she gently asked,
smiling as her heart began to fill with
warmth.
Me: “Would you like to look at my
teeth after your shift ends, for free?”
“Boss,” he said, “The pill actually
worked!”
“That’s all fine,” said the boss. “But
where were you yesterday?”
It’s closing time
He asked: “Why are you holding out
both of your hands?”
The beggar replied, “You see sir,
business is going so well I decided to
open another branch.”
His sympathetic wife
A businessman dragged himself home
and barely made it to his chair before
he dropped exhausted. His sympathetic
wife was right there with a tall cool
drink and a comforting word.
“My, you look tired,” she said. “You
must have had a hard day today.
What happened to make you so
exhausted?”
“It was terrible,” her husband said.
“The computer broke down and all of
us had to do our own thinking.”
The bakery had just closed. I had
clocked out, and was on my way out
of the store.
Lady: “Excuse me, could you decorate
this cake for me?”
Me: “I’m sorry ma’am. My shift is
over, and the bakery is closed.”
Lady: “But I need it done for
tomorrow! If you don’t do it, I’ll call
your manager!”
Me: “Ma’am, what do you do for a
living?”
Lady: “I’m a dentist…”
