Staf Boustead yang dihargai,
Memandangkan tahun 2014 hampir berakhir, saya
gembira untuk menyatakan bahawa walaupun
ianya merupakan satu tahun yang mencabar,
Kumpulan berjaya mengharungi segala cabaran
yang mendatang.
Dear fellow Bousteadians,
As 2014 draws to a close, though it has been a demanding year,
I am pleased to note that the Group was able to weather the
challenges that came our way.
For the third quarter of the financial year, despite tough economic
conditions, most of our Divisions recorded a satisfactory
performance. In line with the Group’s commitment to deliver value
to our shareholders, we declared consecutive dividends for our
first three quarters, bringing total dividends to date to 21 sen per
share.
Over the past year, a key achievement for the Group was the
successful listing of Boustead Plantations Berhad. As we build
on our solid track record and capitalise on the vast potential of
the plantation sector, we are confident Boustead Plantations will
remain a strong contributor to the Group.
In addition to the Boustead Plantations listing, we embarked
on a series of significant corporate exercises this year in our
Heavy Industries and Property Divisions. We remain committed
to seeking out new avenues to strengthen our organic growth
in order to ensure our stable of businesses is healthy, which is
beneficial for all Bousteadians.
Another milestone which we recently celebrated is the 10 year
anniversary of the Curve. Since it opened its doors as Malaysia’s
first pedestrianised lifestyle shopping mall, over the last decade
the Curve has grown to become a popular destination in the Klang
Valley, which is indeed a feat to be proud of.
In the coming year, I am confident that we will be able to
strengthen our resolve and improve on productivity. This is all the
more necessary given that the economic climate may continue
to be volatile; globally, regionally and locally. It is vital that all
Bousteadians are mindful of these external conditions as they can
potentially impact our businesses.
What is important to note is that we are a highly diversified group
and there are opportunities in many segments of our Divisions
and business units. Bousteadians must focus on personal
improvement and increasing productivity in order to contribute to
the Group as we strive to grow organically.
Walaupun keadaan ekonomi sukar, kebanyakan
Bahagian kita telah mencatatkan prestasi yang
memuaskan pada suku ketiga tahun kewangan.
Selaras dengan komitmen Kumpulan untuk
memberikan nilai kepada para pemegang saham,
kita telah mengisytiharkan dividen untuk tiga suku
pertama berturut-turut, menjadikan jumlah dividen
sehingga kini kepada 21 sen sesaham.
Satu pencapaian penting bagi Kumpulan sepanjang
tahun ini adalah kejayaan kita menyenaraikan
Boustead
Plantations
Berhad.
Sambil
kita
meneruskan rekod prestasi yang mantap dan
memanfaatkan potensi besar yang terdapat dalam
sektor perladangan, kita yakin Boustead Plantations
akan kekal sebagai penyumbang utama kepada
Kumpulan.
Sejak ia
dibuka sebagai pusat beli-belah gaya hidup dengan
laluan pejalan kaki yang pertama di Malaysia, the
Curve telah berkembang sebagai satu destinasi
popular di Lembah Klang sejak sedekad yang
lalu dan ini merupakan satu pencapaian yang
membanggakan.
Saya yakin kita dapat mengukuhkan tekad
kita dan meningkatkan lagi
produktiviti pada
tahun mendatang ini. Ini semua adalah perlu
memandangkan iklim ekonomi global, serantau dan
tempatan berkemungkinan akan terus menjadi tidak
menentu.
kita. Staf Boustead perlu memberi tumpuan kepada
pembaikan diri dan meningkatkan produktiviti
bagi menyumbang kepada Kumpulan sambil kita
berusaha untuk berkembang secara organik.
I would also like to take this opportunity to wish all Bousteadians
and their families a Happy New Year and all the best for 2015.
Saya juga ingin mengambil kesempatan ini untuk
mengucapkan Selamat Tahun Baharu kepada
semua staf Boustead serta keluarga mereka, semoga
beroleh kejayaan pada tahun 2015.

UNMC’s School of Psychology receives
British Psychological Society accreditation
T
he School of Psychology at The
University of Nottingham Malaysia
Campus (UNMC) has become the
first
Psychology
course
provider
outside the United Kingdom (UK) to
receive accreditation from the British
Psychological Society (BPS) for its
undergraduate
programmes.
The
certification was conferred following a
visit by a panel of BPS representatives to
UNMC recently.
The accreditation benchmarks the
School’s two undergraduate degree
courses, B.Sc. Psychology and B.Sc.
Psychology & Cognitive Neuroscience,
against psychology degrees across
the UK. The successful certification
indicates that the two courses support
student learning, are well resourced,
and cover in depth the curriculum
endorsed by the Society which is
derived from recommendations of the
Quality Assurance Agency.
Accredited undergraduate programmes

Membership, which is required in order
to train and practise in a number of
psychology professions in the UK.
The School was commended on
various areas of practice, including the
excellent research resources available
to students of the programmes, the
close-knit and nurturing learning
community and the level of public
engagement aimed at raising the
profile of psychology in Malaysia and in
the region.

was recently awarded a contract by Boustead Atlas

galvanize, deliver and install eight units of hangar for

he gained experience in different aspects of group
reporting and operational finance.
The fabrication works for the hangars have commenced and
are expected to be completed by the first quarter of 2015,
while the installation work is targeted for completion in 2015.
He acknowledges that working fulltime and
studying part time is not a child’s play as there are
sacrifices required and time management is the most
important aspect of all. Nevertheless, he managed
to successfully complete the programme within four
years and graduated in September 2014.
The signing ceremony took place on 12 November 2014
at Boustead Atlas Hall’s office in Kuala Lumpur. Boustead
Engineering was represented by its Division Director,
YBhg. Datuk Koo Hock Fee, while Boustead Atlas Hall was
represented by its Director, Dr. Rais Saniman.
When the result of his final paper was announced, he
confessed that it was one of the best awaited days
of his life. “The only thing that stood between me and
my whole life’s vision to become an accountant was
that email from ICAEW, and when the word ‘pass’ was
in the email, I was speechless and it felt like a tonne of
concrete was taken away from my shoulders. I would
not have passed if not for my mother who has always
been there with her encouragement and support.”
Boustead Naval Shipyard awarded Boustead Atlas Hall with
a contract to design, purchase, construct and commission
the provision of hangar for panel/block assembly activity
(Location 78) and two vessel consolidation on transfer
rail (Location 77) at BNS in April 2014 for its ship building
infrastructure.

Group Finance Retreat 2014 - Penang
(5 - 8 September 2014)
T
he excitement of the Group Finance
Department’s 2014 Retreat to
Penang began at 6.00 a.m. where we
assembled at Menara Boustead to
board the coach to KLIA. Our flight
departed at 9.15 a.m. and we were
cordially welcomed at the Penang
International Airport by our guide,
Ms. May.
Our first destination in
Penang was the famous
Kapitan
Restaurant
on
Penang Road, where we had the
chance to experience their special
‘Nasi Briyani’ menu. After Friday
prayers, we visited the Made in
Penang Art Museum to view the
amazing 3D paintings that were
showcased there.
Day 1
At 5.00 p.m., we headed over to the
Penang Pier to board the Star Cruise Libra, a ship measuring
706 feet with a capacity of 740 cabins and 10 decks, able
to accommodate up to 1,500 passengers. There were many
activities available on board such as a movie screening, magic
show, live band, karaoke room and a swimming pool, amongst
other facilities.
Day 2
The cruise disembarked at 11.00 a.m. at the Penang
Pier, after which we went to visit the Peranakan
Mansion. We then had lunch at a Chinese Muslim Restaurant in
Bayan Lepas with a 12-dish menu. In the afternoon, we visited
Penang Hill and the Botanical Gardens, where we enjoyed the
green scenery and cool surroundings which were very relaxing
and soothing.
We finished the day with a seafood dinner at the Oriental
Seafood Restaurant on Gurney Drive and went back to hotel to
get some rest for another adventure the next day.
Our main teambuilding activity for day 3 was the batik painting
competition held in a local batik factory, where all our finance
staff became artists. We were divided into five groups to
produce batik by painting a sketched white cloth. Then, we had our lunch
at the Hameediyah Restaurant which is famous for its mouth-watering
nasi kandar, which everyone was satisfied with.
Day 3
Of course, we could not miss shopping
at the Chowrasta area to purchase
souvenirs and most importantly the
famous Penang jeruk. We then went
back to our hotel to prepare for our Gala
Dinner, which started at 8.30 p.m. While
dining, we enjoyed a variety of bonding
activities such as quizzes, lucky draws
and a balloon breaking competition
between the ladies and the gentlemen.
On the last day of our Group
trip, the morning was free and
easy for everyone to satisfy
their desire for shopping and
sightseeing. We then departed Penang

with heavy hearts. The trip was definitely a once
in a lifetime experience for the Group Finance
Department, enhancing our relationships and
creating a stronger bond between team
members.

the Curve's teambuilding in Phuket, Thailand
On the second day, we took a trip to Phi Phi Island.
We took a two-hour boat ride with stops at Tong Sai
Bay and Monkey Beach, where we went snorkeling.
Later, we proceeded to Phi Phi Island for a buffet lunch. After
lunch, we travelled back to Phuket Island for a barbeque
dinner and awards presentation at the Resort.

Thailand. A total of 119 staff from Boustead Curve
Sdn. Bhd., Damansara Entertainment Centre Sdn. Bhd. and
Boustead DCP Sdn. Bhd. participated in the teambuilding at
The Impiana Resort Patong Phuket.
Canoeing at Lord Cave
The programme for the island visit was revised slightly for
the second and third groups, as they travelled to Phang Nga
Island, visited James Bond Island and rode canoes in Lord
Cave.
As per previous years, in order to accommodate shift staff, we
split the group into three separate trips; 20 - 22 August 2014,
29 - 31 August 2014 and 3 - 5 September 2014, respectively.
Upon arrival at Phuket International Airport, we were
Day 1
given a warm welcome by the local tour guides who
were to accompany us for the duration of the trip.
We were then taken for lunch at a local halal restaurant, Krua
Marina Restaurant. After a scrumptious lunch, we went
sightseeing at Promthep Cape which is located at the southern
end of Phuket Island. Promthep Cape has a very nice sea view
and is also famous for its sunset view.
Day 3
Snorkeling at Tong Sai Bay
On the last day, we checked-out at 11.00 a.m. and
proceeded to Phuket International Airport to
catch the flight back to Kuala Lumpur. We arrived
safely back at the Curve by 7.30 p.m.

T
his year, most of the departments in
Boustead Holdings Berhad organised
their annual teambuilding trips to
the island of Penang, and the Group
Secretarial Department did not buck the
trend. We visited Penang too.
All smiles at
the airport
After lunch, we drove to Swettenham
Pier Cruise Terminal to board the
Star Cruise Libra, which was a new
experience for some. That night we
had dinner at Spices Restaurant.
The restaurant was fully occupied
with Boustead staff as the
Group Finance Department
had their dinner there
too. Coincidently, both
departments
visited
Penang on the same
weekend. It was nice to
catch up with colleagues in
a more relaxed and informal
environment.
BHIC participates in Bursa Bull Charge Charity Run
The next morning we
disembarked from the
pier to visit Bukit Bendera.
The ride to the top of the hill took
only 20 to 30 minutes but queuing
up for the train took significantly
longer. We were at this historical
site for the first half of the day
before heading back to town to
have lunch at Line Clear restaurant.
We then explored the streets of
Georgetown and its UNESCO World
Heritage sites, including Penang
Museum and Peranakan Mansion.
Our accommodation for the night
was The Royale Bintang Penang,
which is actually next door to
the Interactive Museum.

Day 1
Our first destination was Perangin Mall
Georgetown for the department’s first
group activity, which was bowling. Some
of the team members had never even
held a bowling ball so it was certainly
sporting of them to give the game a try.
After three rounds, our knees started
to give way. It was tiring but ultimately
fun and rewarding, as all of the team
members received prizes.

hours at Chowrasta Market
before departing to the airport at midday to catch our flight back home. The
visit to Penang was pleasant and
enjoyable, but we did not forget that
the next day was a working day.
Refreshed from the trip, the aim was to
bring this revitalised energy back to
the office.
