The work on the second arm
of the Y-shaped Rangarajapuram flyover has been completed, but is yet to be opened.
Barricades have been placed
at both ends of this section of
the flyover to stop motorists
from using it till it is officially
opened. This part of the flyover
crosses the railway track and
connects Bazullah Road (T.
Nagar) with Subramania
Nagar Main Road (Kodambakkam). According to a Chennai
Corporation official, one arm
of the ‘Y’ shaped flyover leading
to the Kodambakkam side was
thrown open to the public in
September last year.
The flyover has been completed at a cost of Rs. 23.75
crores. Residents who are reeling under traffic problems in
the area have appealed to the
officials to inaugurate the second arm as early as possible.
Residents of Rangarajapuram and West Mambalam told
this reporter that the flyover
will help in smoothening the
traffic in the area.

According to the police, 2.5
sovereigns of gold chain and
two gold rings that she was
wearing had apparently been
taken by her assailants. However her earrings and nose stud
were not removed.
When Sri Kumar, her employer, came to the office at
around 6 p.m, he found the main
door of the office locked from
outside. When he entered the
office, he discovered Jothilakshmi’s body covered in a pool of
blood. He immediately called
the nearby police station.
The single room office is isolated from the main building of
the 2-storey residential apartment complex.

LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
By M.A. SADANAND
Dumped sand causing dust pollution
on Kamarajar Salai
What are the elements that coalesce in the shaping of
a person’s mind that, as in the case the pied piper of
Hameln, draws hundreds to their doom?
Law abiding fools like me who want to clack the computer when the grey cells strike without warning and
hoping to see the result on the next Sunday’s ‘No Holds
Barred’ column are denied the freedom of expression when
the Electricity Board goes for a snooze at the most
creative hour between 4 and 5 in the afternoon.
All good and bad things come to en end, or so we thought,
but the pied piper of Idinthakarai, who rules the
Koodankulam environs, has a bag of tricks up his torso.
His word is law to the worshippers who want to be a part
of the sea by merging their bodies with the sea and living
in the sea. Brinologists will now write tomes of research
findings and perhaps the next year’s Nobel Prize in Medicine will be a joint award to the Idinthakarai brinologists.
To deny these chaps a cake walk, another school of
thought has taken shape and a non- thrust by a group of
uglies is seen buried up to their belly button in sand. Atta
boy! What courage! If a convoy of some, as yet unidentified, marine life swims up to see Mother India in the raw,
what better fare can the country offer than these human
salads! As some great philosopher said, having given up
his war against ignorance, “What fools these mortals be!”
Not to be scoffed at by the Southies, an andolan gang
in the North has started living in the river that is sought
to be dammed. They can at least drink non-brine water and
be clean. “The Old Man And The Sea” by friend Ernest
Hemingway comes to mind. For all the wisdom that he
accumulated over the years by eating fish, didn’t Ernest
shoot himself dead finally?
Desilting machine used in
clearing sewage block
Sir,- A large quantity of sand
and other fine debris that was
recently dumped on the roadside of Kamarajar Salai (Ashok
Nagar) has lead to high dust
pollution in the area due to a
multitude of heavy vehicles
that ply on the road.
We request the concerned
authorities to take immediate
action to remove the sand from
the road and also take stringent action against the offenders. – Kamarajar Salai Residents’ Welfare Association.
Owner finds his missing bike kept safely
in police station
Sir,- Last Sunday night after taking my 2-wheeler out on
a short trip, I by mistake left it
parked in front of my house
and went to sleep.
The next morning I noticed
that the bike was missing from
the spot where I had parked it
the previous night and after
making a search in and around,
I came to the conclusion that it
had been stolen.
I then went to R7, K.K. Nagar
Police Station to report the
theft.
To my pleasant surprise I
found my bike was parked
within the compound of the
police station.
When I enquired regarding
the bike with the Station Inspector, he said that during
night patrol the previous night,
a constable had found the bike
parked on the road side. Since
he could not locate the owner,
the bike was brought to the
police station for safe keeping.
The inspector handed over
the bike to me after inspecting
the original documents of the
vehicle which I had carried with
me.
I wish to thank Chennai Police for such an exemplary public service.-K. Gopalan, 5th
sector, 21st Street, 433,

Govindan Road and Kodambakkam Road (West Mambalam) are yet to be
activated.
Traffic congestion is a common sight at this junction as most of the time
there is no traffic police to regulate the traffic, especially during peak hours.
Sai bhajans are conducted at 6.15 p.m
on Saturdays in Sri Sathya Sai Organization, Ashok Nagar Samithi (143, 101st
Street, 15th Sector, K. K. Nagar).

Dengue-related cases on the rise in the city
By Our Staff Reporter
Though the northeast monsoon is at least a fortnight
away, the fever season has
begun with a number of patients crowding the city hospitals with severe viral infections, including a high rate of
dengue and cases of encephalitis, meningitis, bronchitis and
pneumonia.
According to Dr. K. P. Par-
thasarathy (Sarayu Hospital,
Anna Nagar), “We are seeing
an unusually high number of
fever cases, more than double
when compared to the last
year”.
Children’s wards in some of
the major hospitals in Chennai
have already begun issuing
waiting lists for admission.
According to Dr. Deepa
Hariharan (Paediatrician,
Apollo Hospital), viral infections become more severe in
smaller children.
Doctors have advised parents not to bring children to
hospitals as soon as fever begins but to wait for at least 48
hours. If children aren’t active
or not eating food, dehydrated
or have rashes on their body,
then they can bring them. Else,
they would be needlessly exposed to infections.
On Oct. 11, representatives
of 452 hospitals and laboratories from the 15 zones partici-
pated in an emergency meeting called by the Chennai Corporation.
As part of the efforts to cope
with the challenges pertaining
to spread of dengue in the city,
the civic body has asked hospitals to commence reporting of
all suspected cases of dengue
on the same day.
All the 15 zonal Assistant
Health Officers have asked the
hospitals in their respective
zones to commence fogging
operations in their premises
on a weekly basis. The hospitals with suspected dengue
patients have also been directed to use mosquito nets for
each patient to prevent spread
of dengue through mosquito
bites at the hospitals.
The civic body has also
started distribution of 2 lakh
pamphlets in vulnerable localities and a total of 25 schools
have been covered in the awareness campaign last week.
