From the Pastor’s Desk…
Raised By The Church - chronicles the extraordinary life of Ed Rohs, a bright, mischievous boy who was raised in five institutions of the Catholic orphanage system in postwar
Brooklyn, New York, from infancy in 1946 until he was discharged as an adult in 1965. Rohs
was one of thousands of children taken in by Catholic institutions during the tumultuous post
WW 11 years, out of wedlock infants, children whose fathers had been killed in the war, and
children of parents in crisis.
When Ed finally left the institution after nineteen years, he had a difficult time adjusting.
He slowly assimilated into “normal” life and determinedly rose above his origins, achieving an
advanced degree and career success, working for years in child welfare and volunteering as
strength coach for the Fordham University basketball team.
With original research based on interviews with clergymen and nuns, archival data from
the New York Archdiocese and government records, Raised by the Church tells the social history of an era when hundreds of thousands of baby boomers passed through the orphanage
system.
Ed Rohs will hold a book signing next weekend - June 22 & 23 - in the Church vestibule.
The cost of the book is $20. Proceeds will go to the Sisters of Mercy.

Remember When?
This year we have planned quite a few events to celebrate our 100th anniversary as a parish. Most of the
events have been for the adults of the parish. Monsignor Cassato wanted to hold a special event that the children
and young adults could enjoy. He wanted a day that all age groups will remember for years to come. And he doesn’t disappoint!
On Friday June 21, 2013 starting at 5:30pm, Saint Athanasius will hold a youth event that will never again
be duplicated. There will be rides for the young children, free food and lots of entertainment. DJ Scribble and Perfect Entertainment will provide the music. The night will be hosted by KTU’s Cindy Vero. Special guests include
Da Cave and Reina whose hit song “If I Close My Eyes”, is well known to music lovers. The night will also feature
two (2) shows featuring the well-known motivational speaker Joe Manno. He will address the issue of “bullying” to
both the young children and then to the older groups. This will be held in the auditorium.
The night will end with a 3-D light show that will illuminate the outside of the Church and then
topped off with a firework show. Don’t miss this very special show with its music and special effects. This night has
been planned so that the young children and adults will keep it forever in their memories

OGGI, DOMENICA 16 GIUGNO
all'inferno.
mentre le discussioni pubblicate su Dio siano state
Buffo come qualcuno possa infervorarsi
pensa di me.

XI DOMINGO ORDINARIO
16 DE JUNIO DE 2013
“DIOS NOS AMÓ PRIMERO Y ENVIÓ A SU HIJO COMO VICTIMA POR
NUESTROS PECADOS
