THE COMMUNITY
2010-2011 Report
The Winning Goal
The Montreal Canadiens Hockey Club is more than an accomplished and
legendary sports organization. The team also takes steps to expand its
image locally, and it gets involved directly in the community through its
Foundation and various community programs that are aimed at helping
to improve the quality of life for youth throughout Quebec and offering
support to people across the province.
President’s Message
The Canadiens have long been a source of inspiration, joy and pride for fans of all ages – but,
more particularly, for the youngest among us. We see it in the smile of a hospitalized children as
their favourite Canadiens player enters their room for a visit. We also see it in the faces of kids who
enthusiastically skate on our BLEU BLANC BOUGE rinks. And it’s evident through the excitement
shown by thousands of fans of every age who fill the stands to watch their team practice, as they
proudly wear their Canadiens gear. These are just a few examples of the energy and positivism that
reign each year when we launch our community activities and programs.
The role our company plays outside the arena is one we take seriously – it is a role that fits with our
objective of actively participating in the development of healthy lifestyles. Throughout the 2010-11
season, our players and their spouses, as well as our hockey personnel, ambassadors, alumni and all
of our employees contributed to the success of hundreds of initiatives and community groups whose
raison d’être is to improve the lives of underprivileged children.
Thanks to the support and generosity of all partners and fans, the Montreal Canadiens Children’s
Foundation has, since its creation, donated more than $12 million to some 425 organizations
working for the well-being of underprivileged children across Quebec. Over and above its support
of community groups, the Montreal Canadiens Children’s Foundation is the driving force behind the
BLEU BLANC BOUGE community rinks, with the fourth rink to be unveiled in the LaSalle borough this
coming winter. More than 45,000 young people have skated on these community multisport and
refrigerated rinks since the project was launched in 2009.
Over the next season, we plan to continue our community initiatives with an increased sense of
sensitivity and generosity, inspired by the commitment shown by our heroes and the tireless support
of our fans and partners.

BLEU BLANC BOUGE
Community Rinks
Introduced as part of the Canadiens’ centennial celebrations throughout the 2008-09 season, the BLEU BLANC BOUGE program consists of building and
donating outdoor multi-purpose ice rinks for generations to come. These rinks make it possible for a large number of children to enjoy a state-of-the-art
facility while engaging in healthy physical activity. Built according to NHL standards, the infrastructure provides the necessary versatility for other sports
to be played according to the time of year. Predominantly used for ice hockey from November to mid-March, the rinks become an ideal playground for
disciplines such as basketball, soccer, ball-hockey and other types of games during the spring, summer and fall months.
The success of the BLEU BLANC BOUGE program comes from the dedication and drive of community organizers at various levels – business people,
local community groups, schools, volunteers, companies and the City of Montreal’s borough divisions involved in the program. The Montreal Canadiens
Children’s Foundation is proud to team up with all of these players and to offer a truly unique program that is contributing to the quality of life and health
of thousands of children.
FACT SHEET
• Since the opening of our first outdoor rink in 2009, over 45,000 kids used the new playgrounds.
• More than half of them as part of a supervised activity either by their school or a community group.
• BLEU BLANC BOUGE subsidized over 14,000 hours of free access to this unique facility.
• Each winter month, the rinks are used by 7,000 kids for ice sports.

Willibrord Park
Verdun Borough
The third BLEU BLANC BOUGE community outdoor rink was
inaugurated in Verdun, in January 2011. The schools and residents
of the neighbourhood have literally invaded their new Verdun
playground where skating and hockey are now a way of life.
Thanks to the generosity of Bauer, which provided hockey
equipment, and the involvement of the borough, students and
members of various community groups now have the means to
develop their skills while having fun.

BLEU BLANC BOUGE IN ACTION
The goal of the BLEU BLANC BOUGE IN ACTION program is to offer
elementary school children an opportunity to enjoy physical activities
within an organized framework, to adopt healthy lifestyles, to socialize and
to develop teamwork – all in a secure and safe environment.
The Montreal Canadiens Children’s Foundation teamed up with Hockey
Canada, Hockey Québec and kinesiology students from the Université
de Montréal to inaugurate ice skating clinics for first- and second-grade
students in the Saint-Michel and Montréal-Nord communities. Seven clinics
were offered each week to about 100 students of Léonard-de-Vinci and
Le Carignan schools during the winter of 2011. The enthusiasm shown
by the management and teachers at schools that benefited from this
project and the skating skills that kids developed are an indication that this
program must be extended in 2012.

Donations
The Montreal Canadiens Foundation offers financial support to community organizations whose projects aim to help children aged 0 to 17 years
and living in disadvantaged neighbourhoods. These projects must follow either one of the following objectives: the implementation of preventive
intervention strategies that children can use to adopt healthy lifestyles and personal development through their involvement in educational or
recreational activities.

Named after Montreal Canadiens legend and Team Ambassador
Jean Béliveau, this trophy was inaugurated on October 18, 2003.
Awarded annually to a player from the Canadiens for his commitment
to the community, the honour comes with a $25,000 donation
made by the Montreal Canadiens Children’s Foundation on behalf
of the recipient to a Quebec charitable organization that supports a
children’s cause. The recipient of the Jean Béliveau Trophy for 2009-10
was MAXIM LAPIERRE, who chose to distribute the donation between
three organizations: the Fondation CHU Sainte-Justine, Jeunes Sportifs
Hochelaga and Leucan.
Friends of
Scott & Brian Loge
Scott Gomez and team captain Brian Gionta purchased a private
suite at the Bell Centre so that sick or needy children could attend
Canadiens home games. This generous contribution allowed
over 375 kids from all over the province to enjoy an unforgettable
evening, thus offering them a brief reprieve from their hardships.
During the 2010-11 season, Centre Jeunesse de Laval,
CHU Sainte-Justine, Foyer Détour and Trisomie 21 Lanaudière
were among the guests in the loge.

Radio Telethon
The second annual Montreal Canadiens Foundation Radio Telethon was held on March 17, 2011 during the game between the Habs and the Tampa Bay
Lightning, held at the Bell Centre. The event was a complete success, thanks to the collaboration of several broadcasters, including, CJAD, CKAC Sports and
RDS, and the tremendous generosity of Canadiens fans, who donated $105,000.
As the sun was rising over the city on March 17, morning hosts at radio stations CJAD and CKAC Sports were already inviting the public to make donations
and help the cause of the Foundation. Throughout the day, members of the Canadiens family, along with representatives of organizations that have
benefited from the support of the Foundation, participated in various CJAD and CKAC programs. RDS joined in at 4 p.m. with live reports from the Bell
Centre, throughout the game and even after the game. Organized with the support of partners Activis, Bell and Desjardins, the popularity and success of
the Radio-Telethon are also the result of the hard work of so many volunteers, including the spouses of Canadiens players, as well as former Habs.
Chantal Machabée and Jonathan Duhamel
Guy Lafleur, Réjean Houle, Geoff Molson and Yvon Lambert
Bell Centre fans contributed generously to the fundraising
in the stands.

The Canadiens in
the Community
Accessibility, Authenticity, Generosity, Commitment and Team Spirit.
These are the values that members of the organization cherish as they
bring together their efforts to make a difference today for the future.
THE WILL TO
VALUE EDUCATION
The Montreal Canadiens are part of Quebec’s rich heritage. With over
100 years of history, the franchise taps into its resources to spark
interest among Quebec’s youth in school. Discipline, dedication and
determination are all values embraced by professional hockey players,
and they are also values that the Montreal Canadiens want to pass
on to young people so that they may grow in their educational and
personal journeys.
Montreal Canadiens
Scholarship Program
In January 2011, the Montreal Canadiens and the Molson
Foundation announced a major investment of $250,000
over five years to support the Quebec Foundation for
Athletic Excellence. This represents an investment of
$50,000 per year. The funds will help to continue to
support the scholarship program that benefits the most
promising players in both women’s and men’s hockey.
Canadiens Executive Vice President and General Manager
Pierre Gauthier presented the $1,500 scholarships to
28 recipients aged between 14 and 17 years old.
Geneviève Legault and Pierre Gauthier
Guy Lafleur Awards
of Excellence
The Guy Lafleur Awards of Excellence are presented
annually to young hockey players who exemplify
excellent on-ice achievements and scholastic results.
Created in 1985 and presented in collaboration with
Molson-Coors, this program rewards young hockey
players of the top three minor hockey leagues in the
province: the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League, the
Canadian Interuniversity Sports, and the Quebec Junior
AAA Hockey League. The 2010-11 recipients are:
Nicolas Therrien
Saguenéens de Chicoutimi – QMJHL
Francis Verreault-Paul
McGill University Redmen – Canadian Interuniversity Sports
Guillaume Langelier-Parent
Collège Français de Longueuil –Junior AAA League
Guy Lafleur, Nicolas Therrien, Guillaume Langelier-Parent and Francis Verreault-Paul
Canadiens@School
Canadiens@school is an educational and recreational program that uses the history of the Montreal Canadiens as a teaching
tool. The program follows the learning guidelines set by the ministère de l’Éducation, du Loisir et du Sport du Québec, with
an emphasis on languages (French and English), arithmetic, personal development, fine arts and physical education. During
the 2010-11 season, some 2,200 elementary schools, 7,850 teachers and over 275,000 students across the province of Quebec
were enrolled in the Canadiens@school program.

THE WILL TO
SUPPORT GOOD
HEALTH
From the very beginning, each player who has worn the Montreal
Canadiens uniform has lent support to sick children and their families.
Moved by the youngsters’ ordeals, the players have brought comfort
and times of joy.
Hockey Fights Cancer
The Montreal Canadiens participate each year in the NHL’s Hockey Fights Cancer campaign. In an
effort to raise awareness for cancer care, the game of October 30 was dedicated to a group of children
from Leucan, an organization that supports the well-being, cure and rehabilitation of children with
cancer, while also providing support for their families. More than 70 Leucan youngsters attended the
Canadiens game, thanks to the generosity of corporate luxury suite owners at the Bell Centre. As a
first-rate partner and supporter of this initiative, RDS offered a unique opportunity to the youngsters,
by inviting them to participate in various aspects of the game’s TV broadcast. The best surprise was
yet to come when Mathieu Darche, Josh Gorges and P.K. Subban met the special Leucan guests after
the game. The NHL also participated, donating $10,000 to Leucan.
DONors - suites
A heart-felt thank you to the individuals
and corporations who played host to the
children of Leucan and their families
in their private suites.

Blood Donor
Clinic
Harvest Gionta
Honouring this annual tradition, players,
management and Canadiens Alumni teamed up
for the 29th Canadiens Annual Blood Donor Clinic
to benefit Héma-Québec. This year some 690
generous donors came to Windsor Station’s Salle
des pas perdus to give the gift of life as members
of the organization took turns to meet, greet and
thank the donors for their generosity.
Hospital Visits
For the 46th consecutive year, Canadiens
players went out to meet young patients
at the CHU Sainte-Justine and the Montreal
Children’s Hospital. Honouring this annual
tradition, the players took a grand tour of
the two hospitals providing encouragement
and a few moments of enjoyment for
300 children and their families.

THE WILL
TO CONTRIBUTE
TO WELL-BEING
The Montreal Canadiens Hockey Club shares its passion for hockey with
every fan – young and old. The team also dedicates time and resources
to youth, their families and people in need. The will to help and to
provide support lies at the heart of the team’s commitments.
OLD BREWERY MISSION
Hal Gill and Réjean Houle served Thanksgiving dinner to more than 400 people at the Old Brewery Mission on October
11. For over 100 years, the Old Brewery Mission has been providing homeless men and women in Montreal with essential
emergency services as safe accommodation, nourishing meals, warm showers and clean clothes.

La Grande
Guignolée
Santa’s Christmas
baskets
The Canadiens invited Bell Centre fans who
attended the December 4, 2010 game to bring
a non-perishable item, as part of a special
collection for the Grande Guignolée des
Médias. The goods were collected prior to the
San Jose game by the spouses of Habs players
and by volunteers with Moisson Montreal, Sun
Youth and the Saint-Vincent-de-Paul Society.
All collected items were then handed over to
community groups assisting needy Montrealers.
Spouses of Montreal Canadiens players
generously support the work of Normand
Brault, a youth centre psychologist and
educator. Mr. Brault answers the wishes of
hundreds of children who do not ordinarily
receive a visit from Santa. Habs spouses
purchased and wrapped gifts for more
than 60 children at the Bell Centre, prior
to the December 16, 2010 game.

THE WILL
TO DEVELOP
HOCKEY
As a professional hockey club, the Montreal Canadiens make it their
duty to be actively involved in the development of hockey and
encourage minor hockey players to pursue their dream. Tomorrow’s
professional hockey players are today’s kids who play the game of
hockey on rinks and ponds across the province and the Canadiens
are proud to support them throughout their progression.
LRF Program
Launched in partnership with Hockey Quebec, the Learn, Respect
and Fun (LRF) program aims at supporting and promoting the
growth and development of minor hockey in Quebec. Close to
16,000 young hockey players from Novice to Bantam hockey
leagues registered in the LRF program in 2010-11, and signed a
contract with Bob Gainey, co-founder of the program. In doing so,
players and coaches pledged to promote good sportsmanship,
moral values and team spirit. The LRF program features two main
activities for its members - the Tim Hortons Coaching Day and
the Esso Minor Hockey Festival.
Esso Minor Hockey Festival
Over 32 teams from each of Hockey Quebec’s 14 administrative
regions enjoyed a hockey game on the Bell Centre ice as part of
the 2011 Esso Minor Hockey Festival.
Tim Hortons Coaching Day
This annual gathering provides 500 pre-Novice to Bantam hockey
coaches from across Quebec with a unique opportunity to attend
a training session with the Montreal Canadiens coaching staff and
specialists and technicians from Hockey Quebec. Several aspects of
the game were taught including goaltending, improvement of the
basic skills, physical preparation, decision making and execution in
one-on-one situations.
MINOR HOCKEY
DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMS
Pierre Groulx
SKILL CAMP
These five half-day camps were held at the Bell Centre, and
offered Atom and Pee Wee players of both sexes an opportunity
to improve various aspects of their game, including skating, stickhandling, shooting and off-ice training methods.
Canadiens 3-on-3 league
The summer season’s top highlight for some 400 kids was a
3-on-3 league at the Bell Sports Complex in Brossard. The
youngsters were grouped into 42 teams, and played 3-on-3
hockey games, between May and August – a great opportunity
to further develop their hockey skills, both individually
and collectively.
Montreal Canadiens Hockey School
Held during the summer months, this hockey school for Novice
to Pee Wee kids was attended by 725 young hockey players who
had an opportunity to improve their hockey skills, thanks to the
precious coaching advice of some professional sports consultants.
The young players also had a chance to spend quality time with
some Canadiens players and coaches.

THE WILL TO
SUPPORT THE
COMMUNITY
All members of the Montreal Canadiens organization, from upper
management to players and their spouses, share the common goal
of lending a helping hand to the community and make a difference
in the children’s lives.
A DEDICATED
COMPANY
Our organization is staffed by a talented and dedicated group of people
from various sectors who are filled with a sincere desire to contribute to
the well-being of the community, and it is this spirit that underlines our
involvement with numerous local groups. Whether it's about finding a cure
for a disease, supporting research, alleviating the suffering or stamping
out poverty, or encouraging healthier lifestyles, for us, it's all about getting
involved outside the arena.
There were many memorable initiatives during the year, including the
support Michael Cammalleri showed towards Quebec military personnel
through his Cammy's Heroes program, a visit by P.K. Subban to a children's
hospital in Port-au-Prince, to support the Hockey For Haiti program, as well
as the involvement of Gill, Price and Moen with the Movember initiative.
Who could forget Anne Gill's marvellous performance during the Dancing
with the Stars evening for the Just For Kids Foundation, or the thousands
of kilometres travelled by many members of the organization during the
3rd running of the Grand Défi Pierre Lavoie, as well as the golf tournaments
and fundraising evenings, with profits going to the CHU Sainte-Justine
Foundation, the Fondation des petits trésors, the Fondation En cœur,
Quebec's Special Oympics and many others.

Centraide fundraising
campaign
To mark the launch of Centraide’s annual fundraising campaign, about
40 employees of the Montreal Canadiens Hockey Club, the Bell Centre
and evenko joined Réjean Houle and Youppi! in the streets of Montreal
as part of the traditional umbrella march. This special event helped
raise $169,349 for Centraide’s 2010 fundraising campaign.
Staff from the Montreal Canadiens, Bell Centre and evenko
Skate Drive
On February 12, the Montreal Canadiens and players’ spouses held
their inaugural new and used skates drive at the Bell Centre on the
same evening that the Habs were facing the Toronto Maple Leafs.
That night, Canadiens fans donated more than 150 pairs of skates that
were then distributed to Chomedey en Forme, Saint-Simon-Apôtre
School and to the BLEU BLANC BOUGE rinks in the Saint-Michel and
Montréal-Nord boroughs.
Angela Webber
The Goal is Green
In launching its Goal is Green program in 2007, the Montreal Canadiens and the Bell Centre became industry
leaders in environmental management and durable development among professional sports venues in North
America. The Bell Centre obtained three certifications: level 3 of the ICI ON RECYCLE, which confirms a recycling
and compost program that recycles at a rate of higher than 80%. Close to 25,000 meals are served annually at
the Maison du Père and Tablée des chefs, thanks to food gathered and donated by the Bell Centre. The LEED
certification, obtained in October 2009, recognizes the integration of durable development, while the ISO
14001 certification was granted in November 2009. Furthermore, the Bell Centre recently obtained a special
recognition from RECYC-QUÉBEC.

THE WINNING GOAL
Donation in-kind
program
Each year, the Donation in-kind Program allows the Montreal Canadiens
to help hundreds of non-profit community groups. The group receives
a signed Canadiens item and then raises funds through an auction or a
draw thus allowing these organizations to pursue their mandates. During
the 2010-11 season, over 700 charitable organizations benefited from this
program to raise in excess of $1 million for their respective causes.
