The Bulgarian Arts Festival showcases the best of Bulgarian culture. It brings attention to
contemporary art, music, theatre and film and offers a glimpse of some of the most amazing
and unique cultural expressions of modern Bulgarian artists, musicians and actors from Bulgaria
and Canada.
This year the festival is dedicated to the 50th Anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic
relations between the Republic of Bulgaria and Canada and 40 th anniversary of the opening of
the Bulgarian Consulate in Toronto. The theme of the festival is “Awakening”/”Пробуждане”.

cinnamon, red wine, the lips of a man, lonely nights, Isabel Allende’s thoughts and a number of

Valya Balkanska is the most famous Bulgarian folk singer from the Rhodope Mountains known
for performing the song "Izlel e Delyu Haydutin", part of the Voyager Golden Record selection
of music included in the two Voyager spacecrafts launched in 1977. The disc carries a collection
of music, including a song by Valya Balkanska.
