SALEM FIVE MUSIC EDUCATION TENT
12:00-12:45 – Aidan Scimgeour Build-a-Song Workshop
Bring your ideas to Aidan Scrimgeour, past SJSF Scholarship recipient, and build
your own song. Aidan and guitarist Conor Hearn will take your words, melodies, and
ideas, and compose songs using them. All ages are encouraged to participate!
1:30-2:15 – Raymond Gonzalez: Open Tunings
Join SSU faculty member and recording artist Raymond Gonzalez as he plays
selections form his recent release, “Open Tunings,” and discusses using open tunings
for acoustic guitar.
3:00-3:45 – Gabe Viani: Guitar Repair Workshop
Gabe Viani of Independent Luthiery in Salem will demonstrate some simple
guitar repairs and give tips on basic guitar maintenance.
5:00-5:45 – EDM performance with FREEVØ
Chris Barry and Blair Drummey of FREEVØ perform selections from their latest
release, “Valør,” and discuss the genre of EDM (Electronic Dance Music), one of
the most popular contemporary musical forms.

Members of the NSJP All Stars will discuss their experience in the group and what it
takes to make a big band go!
1:30-2:15 – Amy McGlothlin: Saxophone and Multimedia
Join SSU faculty member Amy McGlothlin as she performs and discusses
contemporary pieces for saxophone and multimedia.
3:00-3:45 – Betty’s Bounce Performance
Acoustic Jazz Trio Betty’s Bounce return to the jazz festival music-education tent to
perform and talk about the music of Gypsy Jazz guitarist Django Reinhardt.
5:00-5:45 – Adria Smith Trio
Pianist Adria Smith will be performing and discussing the legacy of female performers
in the male-dominated world of jazz!

a free, weekend-long event featuring dozens of
live performances, a Notch Brewing 21+ beer
garden, an artisan’s fair, MusicKidz Tent, Salem
Five Charitable Foundation Music Education Tent,
and more.
The Salem Jazz and Soul Festival is a volunteerrun 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that
produces free concerts and raises money to
support music education programs.

Take a special Salem Trolley to/from the
festival from Shetland Park. Cost is $3 each
way and $5 round-trip. Trolley is free to
Salem residents. * Salem residents must
stop by the Salem Trolley office, 8 Central
St., between the hours of 9 a.m. and 5 p.m.
to pick up vouchers for a free ride.
