About the Artists Participating In France Rocks Austin: THE BEWITCHED HANDS ON THE TOP OF OUR HEADS The Bewitched Hands is a six-member band (five guys and one girl) from Reims, France. Frequently compared to The Beach Boys, The Flaming Lips and most recently Arcade Fire, The Bewitched Hands already have prestigious international gigs behind them with more to come. They have performed at SXSW 2010 (USA), and at The Great Escape Festival (UK). In October 2010, they performed in Los Angeles (US) at the Ohlala Festival, in Manchester (UK) at In the City, and in New York (US) at the Hiro Ballroom for CMJ. As they returned to France, they closed the Les InrocksBlack XS festival at the Zénith in Paris, co-headlining with LCD Soundsystem. They are a definite must see! Their album Birds & Drums was released in France on Oct. 25th 2010. Artist Myspace | Artist Facebook | Watch Video : "Sea" CHATEAU MARMONT Four Frenchmen united in their love of synth music. These boys come from a time when people still believed in the future. Chateau Marmont have released two EP's to much acclaim: Solar Apex and Niburu. Since then, they've remixed La Roux, Heartsrevolution, Ladyhawke, Röyksopp (after Poney Poney, Koko Von Napoo, Midnight Juggernauts...), and themselves for Chromeo's DJ Kicks. They've also co-produced former-teenybopperturned-synth-diva Alizée's new album, and were included on Kitsuné Maison 7. Drawing inspiration from the hypnotic trance of voodoo culture, Public Enemy, dub and jazz, Cam's style assumes a new identity with each and every project since he first hit the scene in 1994 with his debut Underground Vibes. He continues to redefine many of the sounds he had a hand in creating throughout his career. 2011 promises big things for DJ Cam as he returns this August with Seven, a new album linking the musical styles of Radiohead and Massive Attack and his first album since 2002's Soulshine. Their bass player never showed up at practice, so they started the band as an original funk'n'roll duo, called The Inspector Cluzo. After one LP the band recorded and mixed by StephanKraemer (Yann Tiersen), the duo is back with a new LP, The French Bastards. For manypromoters, they're simply one of the best international live acts of the year, doing crazy shows and smashing drums randomly. Artist Website | Artist Myspace | Artist Facebook Watch Video: "The French Bastards" LEXICON LA-based brothers Gideon & Nick Black started a band, created a new genre, and made Paris a home for their new sound. A beautiful mix of hiphop, new wave, indie rock and electro blares from the speakers along with guitarist "The Real" Erich Schneider, bassist Alex "Mokajin" Pauley, DJ/producer C-Minus and producer/engineer Ed Monsef. After releasing two successful indie hip hop records and becoming one of the bigger names in the LA underground scene, Lexicon became frustrated. Lexicon realized that by combining these elements with their deep knowledge of hiphop they could finally express themselves the way they wanted to. Mixing their broad range of influences from the A Tribe Called Quest to The Strokes to The Police to N.E.R.D. to Roxy Music, these seasoned vets flawlessly flow their way through this new sound with an appealing confidence and an ever-present sense of humor. Singer, lyricist and filmmaker, Marianne Dissard tours extensively the world over. Over the course of four acclaimed albums, she has collaborated with Tucson sweethearts Calexico, Howe Gelb, Naïm Amor, Sergio Mendoza, Brian Lopez as well as with her extended family outside of Arizona, including chanteuse Françoiz Breut, composer Christian Ravaglioli and producers Jim Waters (Jon Spencer, Sonic Youth) and BK-One (Rhymesayers). Albums L'Abandon (2011) and L'Entredeux (2008) were released worldwide through Le Pop Musik (Europe), Trop Exprés (USA), Vacilando 68 (UK), FAB (Canada), Rythmethod (NZ) and MGM/Planet (Australia), with relentless world touring. The intermediary, free download album Paris One Takes (2010) won accolades, notably from Blurt (8/10), Venus Magazine (4/5) and US radio stations such as WFMU, WNYC and KEXP. In January 2010, they released a24-hour Mixtape that was a global hit on blogs. They have released more than 25 mixtapes within the last two years. To date, their mixtapes and tunes have already beendownloaded over 150,000 times. Their single "Rock, Paper, Scissors" was released on June 2010 on Dim Mak Records. Currently, the duo are working on their debut album slated for a May release. Mustard Pimp has had several collaborations with Skrillex,Joachim Gerraud, Mindless Self Indulgence, Chali 2na, Stereoheroes, Dirtyphonics, Puppetmastaz, DJ Funk. They've alsoreleased remixes for Designer Drugs, Shinichi Osawa, Steve Aoki, Dada Life, Fischerspooner, and Crookers. Artist Myspace | Artist Facebook REVOLVER While their name is taken from the influential Beatles album, it's a fitting description for the group's evolving sound. Pairing classical chamber music with influences such as Elliot Smith and The Velvet Underground might seem like a particularly daunting task, until you hear the masterful way they pull these influences together. Revolver's French EP, Pop De Chambre, is a delightful collection of folk songs, and it's a prelude to their fantasticdebut album, Music for a While, just released last Fall in the U.S. (Astralwerks). The band also released a new acoustic EP, ParallelLives, on February 22, 2011 via Astralwerks, which features two new original songs, the eponymous title track and "Losing You." Artist Website | Artist Myspace | Artist Facebook Watch Video: "Get Around Town" TAHITI 80 Whoawow. That was the first babbling word that came to mind when hearing The Past, The Present & The Possible. Their latest offering is their most radical yet. Released as the first full-length on their self-owned label Human Sounds, boundaries are finally limitless, something the band did not take for granted this time around. For starters, Tahiti 80 is now a sixpiece unit. The additions include long time touring members Julien Barbagallo & Raphaël Léger on backing vocals, keyboards, and percussions/drums changing the position of co-writer Sylvain Marchand due to chronic ear damage. Their influences seemed to align, leaving them to call The Past, The Present & The Possible both willingly and reluctantly "our Postmodern album" noting a mixtape Xavier made with songs from Wire, The The, and Andrew Weatherall's production work. The name of the album refers to designer Peter Saville's introduction to Reasons To Be Cheerful; The Life &Work of Barney Bubbles. The Past is the sum of strong roots, The Present is us living in our times, and The Possible is one's interpretation of the future." A French trio composed of three Lille natives (Keyboard player Clo Floret, guitarist Thomas Fourny and drummer Cyril Debarge) who share a passion for fashion, video games, and wildly-thoughtful dance music. In their short run as a group they've developed a passionate fan base on both sides of the Atlantic.Their debut full length Explicit Pictures (April 5 in North America, Last Gang) perfectly showcases their knack for creating saucy hooks you can't shake and witty lyrics that are either teasing or selfmocking. About using the Nintendo Gameboy, Thomas says the group loves the "purity" of the unlikely instrument, that it can be "so smooth and sometimes so aggressive." Beyond music, they also claim inspiration from '50s, '60s, and '70s pop culture, not to mention Roman history, Belgian cooking and kittens. Artist Website | Artist Myspace| Artist Facebook | Watch Video: "Snap Dragon" YETI LANE Weaving guitars reminiscent both of David Grubbs and the Velvet Underground, electronic patchworks of vintage synthesizers and intense drums pulled directly from the 70's, Yeti Lane may have found a magical recipe. Rising from the ashes of the folk band Cyann Ben, their self-titled debut album received praise from various critics (NME, Mojo).
