Der Entwurf zur Rekonstruktion des Olympiastadions Kiew res­
pektiert die historische Bausubstanz mit ihrer signifikanten filig­
ranen Spannbeton-Oberrangtribüne von 1968, indem das Trag­
werk der neuen Dachkonstruktion losgelöst mit Abstand vor der
bestehenden Tribünenschüssel angeordnet wird. Dieser markante
Teil wird daher von einer neuen Glasfassade umhüllt und durch
die Illumination ins rechte Licht gesetzt. Auch der sich aus der
Hanglage des Stadions im Westen ergebende Sockelbaukörper
von 1948 wurde bei der Rekonstruktion in abgewandelter Form
wiederhergestellt. Die Unterrangtribüne wurde in ihrer Geometrie
den Sichterfordernissen angepasst und vollständig neu konzi­
piert. Insbesondere im Westen des Stadions, unterhalb der Haupt­
tribüne, wurden umfangreiche Räumlichkeiten für Sportler, VIPGäste und Pressevertreter geschaffen. Durch den Einbau einer
Leichtathletiklaufbahn nach Abschluss der Fußballeuropa­
meister­schaft 2012 werden die Nutzungsmöglichkeiten des Sta­
dions erweitert. Der gläserne, nachts leuchtende Baukörper wird
zum städtebaulichen Wahrzeichen in Kiews Zentrum. Auch der
Innenraum des Stadions mit zirka 68.000 Sitzplätzen erhielt
durch eine filigrane, mit Luftstützen und Lichtkuppeln ­ausgestatte
Membrandachkonstruktion eine unverwechselbare Identität.
The new design for the reconstruction of the stadium respects the
historic fabric with its important filigree prestressed concrete
upper tier built in 1968, the frame of the new roof structure being
detached and placed clear of the existing bowl. This most
­distinctive feature is therefore being encased in a new filigree
glass façade and will be duly illuminated with appropriate light­
ing. The plinth structure of 1948 arising from the location of the
stadium on a slope at the West End also was rebuilt in a different
guise during reconstruction. The geometry of the lower part of
the stand was completely redesigned and updated in accordance
with safety requirements. Particularly at the west end of the sta­
dium, beneath the main stand, extensive premises were con­
structed for players, VIP guests and press representatives. After
the conclusion of the European Football Championships in 2012,
an athletics track will be inserted, enhancing the functionality of
the stadium. When the glazed structure of the stadium is illumi­
nated at night, it is an urban landmark in the cityscape of down­
town Kiev. The interior of the stadium, with seats for around
68,000 people, gains an individual, unmistakable identity with a
membrane roof structure incorporating air supports and domes
of light.
Am 8. Oktober 2011 wurde das neue Stadion eingeweiht, das
­erste Länderspiel nach der Eröffnung fand am 11. November 2011
zwischen der Ukraine und Deutschland statt.
