T~I~LAMBDIAN NEWSLETTER OF THETA-XI ZETA SPRING SEMESTER FOUNDER1S DAY 1969 The Founder's Day celebration for 1969 was held on April 19, at the Mark Twain Manor in Jamestown, Pa. The meal was followed by a series of Officer's Reports, General Speakers, and the presentation of awards for the past year. High Tau, Paul Garver gave an optimistic financial report for the past year, expressing hopes that financial support by the alumni organizations would brighten this report even more in the coming year. High Epsilon, John Huey gave the alumni a run-down on the social activities of the chapter in the past year. High Beta, Jack Ostrowski presented to the gathering the revised program of public relations projects on which the house has embarked. The keynote address of the evening was by Rep. Roy W. Wilt, Pennsylvania legislator, former Dean of Men, and alumnus of Theta-Xi. In his speech, Rep. Wilt stressed the need to provide to the community around us, the image that we conceive of ourselves, and the necessity of forming a desireable image as a fraternity. Finishing off the program was the presentation of the various awards to the Brothers and Alumni. Receiving the James H. Mapstone Scholarship Award of $100, was David C. Bruggeman, a senior Economics major from Pittsburgh. The $250 Alumni Scholarship Award was presented to T. Allan Bietsch, a junior History major from Carlisle, Pa. ALP!~NI PRESIDENT/S REPORT ~ . ~.. ~ Dear Alumni, On Sunday, April 20, 1969, members of the Thiel College Theta Xi Alumni Association attended the annual Lambda Chi Founder's Day celebration. The alumni received a very optimistic picture concerning the future of our chapter. Alumni President, Pastor Gerberding, and Chapter President, Dave Walos, reported that the present and future activities of the fraternity stress overall improvement in all areas. The chapter has undergone new evaluation by the active brotherhood and the national with intentions of forming a better image. Many new types of programs are being initiated to strengthen the areas that the chapter is weak in. One such area is alumni relations. Within the near future, the active chapter will try to more than prove its new and better intentions. Our Alumni Association must keep faith by actively supporting the brotherhood in all its good endeavors. At this time our association needs financial assistance from you, the alumni. Weare asking for any contributions you deem sufficient. Also, any information concerning alumni members or suggestions for improvement will be greatly appreciated. With deepest thanks. TRICE President Alumni Association RECOGNITION GIVEN The new officers of Theta-Xi were presented to the Alumni followed by the presentation of the President's gavel to the past High Alpha, Jerome G. Kerlek, by the new president, David A. Walos. The Lambda Chi Alpha Sports Trophy for 196869 was presented to Richard A. Brezing, a junior History major from Niagara Falls, N. Y. Mr. James Chadwick, long time advisor to the Chis, and the head of the Accounting Department at Thiel, was pre- --- sented with a desk pen set, in grateful recognition of his years of ser- vice to the chapter. was concluded The program by the awarding of the Theta-Xi Awards, to the Brothers who have most helped the chapter in the past year. This year's awards went to Jerome G. Kerlek, a senior Biology major from Farrell, Pa. and to Rev. Milo Gerberding, present High Pi, and former president of the' Alumni Association. ~~ HIGH BETA REPORT FALL PLEDGE CLASS This semester, Theta-Xi has embarked on a Public Relations program, which covers a wide range of activities. Following a general plan laid out by the National Headquarters Public Relations for the coming year will stress service to the Greenville Community. Although we were not able to take a Spring Pledge Class, we did manage to initiate eight men on Jan. 12. They are; Rick Dinsmore, Detroit, Michigan; John Himes, Monaca, Pa; Jay Hoffer, Norvelt, Pa.; Tom Lehman, Carthage, N. Y; John Marsh, Greensburg, Pa.; Jack Ostrowski, Pittsburgh, Junior Bigh Alpha; and Dale Sparber, Girar;d, Pa. With this pledge class t~e ",members of ThetaXiwentover~u~-~ .... - So far this semester, the House has participated in three major Community Service Projects. In March, Brothers donated 30 manhours into painting the Greenville -Recreation-Center. Alsoln -March, we sponsored an Easter Egg Hunt for the children of the faculty, administration, and staff of the College. The affair was co-sponsored by the Sisters of Chi Omega, and received press coverage. In April, the Brothers worked hard repairing and painting the house in the Park Amphitheater. In the area of Alumni relations, you've probably noticed that this is the first Thielambdian to be printed in two years. The Thielambdian will try to focus on Alumni affairs, but we can't guess at what you are doing. We'll need your help most of all in making the paper successful. Yours in ZAX Jack Ostrowski, RB. Class of '65-Tim Dunbar is employed at American Car Co. in Chicago. Jim Lucht is preparing to practice law in Erie. Mike Lemley, the new Alumni V-President, is working for Mellon Bank. John Todd is working for Kodak, in Norristown, Pa. Class of '66-Rudi Klobach is teaching school in Philadelphia. Tom Whiteman is working for Continental Insurance. Jeff Brooks is working for General Electric in Buffalo, where he is living with Al Bowman, who works for Gulf Oil. Class of '67-Hal Nash is in the National Guard, and is working for Swift Meats in Syracuse. George Kovalcik is a substitute teacher at Duquesne High School, and is an assistant golf pro at Duquesne Country Club. Bill Alvin was drafted. Howard Burns is studying law at WVU. Ed Walwork is a social worker in Pittsburgh. Allen Hamid is teaching in New York, along with Howard Berguson. Walter Rolph is teaching in Philadelphia. John Trice is teaching in Swissvale, Pa. Class of '68-Leo White and Jeff Eshelman have both been drafted. Other information we have: Keith Hammond was wounded in Vietnam. George Measel is traveling incognito and most likely intoxicato. As newly elected President of Theta-Xi, I feel we are taking greater strides to promote the welfare of Lambda Chi Alpha and achieving excellence in all fields of activity. We started the new administration with an Officers' Retreat at Cook's Forest. Present were the High Zeta accompanied by Hi Pi Brother Gerberding and several alumni. They included Dave Hofius, Jim Thomas, Herb Gebert, and Don Carpenter. The fraternity has been involved with a series of community service projects in cooperation with the City Recreation Department. As you've already noted, this is the first Thielambdian in two years. ave. Social Life Our social life has been somewhat limited due to the presence of probation.
