The Talon The Talon - Somerset Aerie #2137
The Talon ...the official voice of Somerset Aerie #2137 Bridgewater, New Jersey VOLUME 1 - ISSUE 4 www.njfoe.org APRIL / MAY - 2011 Secretary’s Corner Dear Brothers, Our Fraternal Year draws to a close and we can be proud of the many accomplishments of our Aerie this past year. We have made numerous donations to worthwhile causes that have directly impacted the lives of those less fortunate than ourselves. We have supported other charitable organizations to help them continue their work. We have added improvements to our Aerie that will benefit all of us for years to come. But the sad truth behind all of these efforts is that our membership is declining. Not long ago we had over five hundred members on our rolls. Today we are barely at the three hundred mark. For any organization to thrive it must grow. I encourage everyone to make an effort to propose one member each year. New members bring a wealth of new ideas and energy and ultimately contribute to the long term success of our Aerie. EAGLES HAM SHOOT SATURDAY, APRIL 16TH 1:00 PM TO 4:00 PM There are several upcoming events that could use the support of our membership. Our Annual Ham Shoot is scheduled for Saturday, April 16th. There will be food and beer in the Hall throughout the event. Cards are available to win a honey glazed smoked ham. On Saturday May 21st the Eagles, American Legion Post 12, and the Somerville Elks are joining together for a Charity Pig Roast, in our Grove, with all proceeds to benefit Middle Earth. Tickets are available in the Social Room at $20.00 for adults and children under 13 are free. Let’s all help establish a yearly event to benefit others less fortunate than ourselves. The Annual Family Picnic for Somerset Aerie # 2137 is scheduled for Saturday, June 11th. As always there will be fun for the children and plenty of food and beer for the adults. Ticket Prices remain $15.00 for adults, free for children 12 & under. Tickets will go on sale in May. This event is for all of us and your support is needed to ensure that it is a success. Elections for Aerie Officers will be held on the first meeting in May. Nominations for open offices will be held on the last meeting in April. All Chair Seats are up for election as are the positions of Secretary (3 year term) as well as two Trustee Seats (both 3 year terms). Anyone interested in running for an open office is encouraged to submit their name to the Nominating Committee prior to Nominations or attend the meeting. Officers are vital to the success of our Aerie and anyone interested in serving as an officer is encouraged to run. In closing I would like to thank everyone who has worked hard to contribute to the prosperity of our Aerie.
