February Star Quilter
Laurie Groesbeck is celebrating a birthday this month (Jan) and also showing you one
of her 45 completed Community quilts for CHQ! Laurie is the daughter of Donna
Groesbeck, long time member and past president of CHQ.
Laurie started hand quilting at a young age under the tutorage of her grandmother
Vinnie Wright. She has hand quilted many beautiful baby and full sized quilts. Two
years ago she bought herself a sewing machine, and under the watchful eye of her
mother Donna, started an obsessive career of piecing quilt tops. She started very
slowly with sewing squares that were put together by her mother. She has progressed
now to making pattern quilts such as rail fence (current project) and making pleasing
patterns with the blocks. She sews at her mother’s house in the afternoons and is
certainly an inspiration to all as a contributor to our Community Quilt Project. A special
thank you to Donna for patiently teaching Laurie a skill that she can feel so productive
and worthwhile. Special support people who have supplied Laurie with quilt top
packets, Carol Gardner and Debbie Pryzmus, and all the volunteer long arm quilters
who have transformed the many quilt tops made with love into quilts for the community.
Another success story for CHQ! Submitted by Daenette More
